Hi all
I recently bought a ATI HD7970 for it's large amount of display ports (4) + 2 DVI and obviously it's (promised) performance.
With EVE though I now get System freezes when I have two or three Clients opened. Usually this is triggered by opening the map a few times (i guess there's some gpu intense operation happening). The system will then freeze completely! Sound loops, Display freezes and I have to hard-reset (reset does not work, only power putton 4secs).
Drivers are the latest, tried with .4 (latest) and .3
Just wondering if I should send the Card back for RMA or if it's really just ATI & EVE ... No Crashes with FurMark stressing the Card or any other Games.
Thanks a lot in advance!
Cheers, - B

COMM4NDER wrote:Sure the crashing is not related to memory or hardware? Complete freezes tells me its probably RAM issue. Yes, 100% certain. Used nvidia cards before and it was 200% stable... IF they would crash due to beta flash plugins they would not freeze the whole system! All it would do was simply flash screens and tell me that my display drivers crashed but recovered successfully... Too bad ATI still does not have such a feature... this is so fail, there are no words tbh.
I guess I should've stood away from ATI as I have in the past....
@deTocni : any workaround?
Did you revert to the old drivers?

They have, never had a system freeze on Windows caused by drivers, crashes i had when I was using Crossfire then it would reset the driver as you speak, that feature has been in since ages.
Do run a memtest86+ just to be sure, thats atleast my advice.
Well, I'm not the only one apparently and given that the response was rather quick I got my money on there being a lot more people having their entire systems freeze...
Ran a full memtest btw today, all fine...
As said, it worked on the same hardware perfectly with nvidia.
Do you happen to know of any tool that does memtest on the Graphics card RAM? since that could be the last non-eve related thing that might be the culprit... The card has 3Gigs of ram so in theory it could explain the freezes when having three EVE Clients opened.

COMM4NDER wrote:Hm i know that there was atleast one application that tested or stressed the vram on a GPU. Could try http://mikelab.kiev.ua/index_en.php?page=PROGRAMS/vmt_en But not sure how good it is. OCCT had some gpu features but dunno if it tested vram. Also im running 2 clients without any issues on my 2gb 6970 card. Also check the vram usage when playing with gpuz and see if its not out of memory, seems like EVE may have a memory leak.
Ran full Test, checking the entire RAM with that tool... monitored status of the card with GPU-Z.. nothing... Only EVE manages to make the entire System freeze...
If the graphics card wasn't the only thing I changed, I would hardly suspect it... The load on it when(or just before) freezing the system is low (monitored with GPU-Z again). Memory usage also is only at around 400MB !!!
I'm a little lost... guessing it's just some weird GPU error, so I sent the Card back for RMA, hoping they will actually give me a different one and not just send the same one back ;-)
Would be great to know if anyone actually can use this card with EVE and 3 clients at all.... Could be that the card is "too new", for ATI at least, given that it's "only" a few months old... -,- |

Bad news, the shop says all of his tests would run through successfully on the card... so they just gonna send it back...
conclusions: 1. Never buy ATI, ever 2. Don't use that shop anymore... not really customer friendly as I kindly asked him to give me a ****** nvidia card instead... to no avail...
CCP: _PLEASE_ fix this (even if it's ATIs fault, they suck @ programming)!!! |

You may be onto CCP with the memory leak, it would explain everything every ones experiencing quite perfectly.
[/quote] ATI seems to have shipped crap they won't take back... google for "hd7970 system crash" you'll find tons of threads by now... affects WoW and a lot of other games as well it seems... |

just FYI, this is still not fixed and I'm considering just selling this PoS and buy something that actually works without one year of fixing... oh yeah... lets create a really high performance card which wont work stable for at least 1 year... thet's the whole point of buying expensive ATI ****... ktxhdie ATI...
Also, this happens with only 1 client as well... especially funny during solo pvp... -,- |

Jenny Kitty wrote:Hi guys, I have good news to share with you. I have found a fix that works. I have successfully been able to play with multiple accounts for a long period of time at max settings after the fix. The problem seems to be related to the HDMI sound drivers that are installed with the AMD drivers. Uninstalling/disabling them has resolved my issue related to freezing while gaming with a single AMD HD 7970. Before I explain the procedure, here are my current PC specs: - i7 930 OC @4Ghz - 1x MSI HD 7970 connected to 3 monitors via DisplayPort and DVI. - 12G RAM - SSD OCZ Agility 3 - Drivers 12.7 beta installed. - Windows 7 64 bits Procedure: 1) Uninstall the HDMI drivers via the "AMD Catalyst Install Manager". Go to Start-> Control Panel -> Uninstall Program -> Right click on "AMD Catalyst Install Manager" and select Change then Uninstall Manager. In the component list, select only the HDMI drivers. Click Next and complete the uninstallation procedure. You will be asked to reboot, click Yes. 2) After rebooting your system, go to Start-> Right click on Computer and then Properties. Select Device Manager on the top left corner. Under the list, expand "Sound, video and game controllers" and check if you have "AMD High Definition Audio Device" (Make sure it is prefixed with "AMD"). If yes, right click and uninstall and reboot. If not, go to next step. 3) Last step is to disable the default Windows HMDI drivers. See screenshot Device Manager. Right click on High Definition Audio Device and then Disable. Reboot. You're done. Hopefully AMD or CCP fixes the issue in a later patch but for now I can live without it as I am not using my monitor speakers (FYI, DisplayPort/HDMI cables enable video AND sound hence why AMD drivers include sound drivers). Please let me know if that fixed it for you. Thank you for your procedure. Unfortunately it didn't work for me :-( Crashed after ~15 mins, randomly again... |

Warr Pigg wrote:Jenny Kitty wrote:Just to give you an update guys. As most of you are, I was fed up of these freezes and had to make a choice. I had the following options:
a) Buying a new video card Nvidia GTX670/680 (I could not exchange my ATI 7970). b) Buying a new motherboard (with AGP 3.0) + cpu 1155 Ivy Bridge c) Just wait
I went with b) as it is a bit cheaper than a). I took a risk because if the earlier hypothesis was not true it would end up more expensive than expected.
I built the new rig yesterday and spent the whole day today playing. So far I have had no freeze.
I will update this thread if I have any freeze.
d) let subscription lapse until its fixed e) d & play something that doesn't freeze in the meantime... omg... yes... it's world of farmcraft -,- |

Reset the 3D settings in the Catalyst Control Panel to default: No change Change the Preset Interval setting in EVE to default: No change Lower the Anti Aliasing settings in EVE: Success!
Lowering the AA made no difference, but disabling it did and my wingie (with the exact same hardware) and I have run for 2 days straight now with no crashes... Jaggy edges are ugly and doing my head in, but EVE seems to be stable without AA on, so I'll live with it for now. As long as we're not going into combat though, we can both happily run AA on the high settings without issues.
So thanks for the fix, but please help us make EVE as pretty as she can be CCP, good luck to the other ATI/AMD users
Doesn't work for me unfortunately (AA was already disabled).
Trying now with Interval default...
do you have a newer cpu socket or an older model? afaik this particular issue only happens with older sockets (i.e. I have an i7 920 @ 2.67GHZ)...

Catalyst BETA 1.9 do NOT solve the issue either, actually I think it might be worse than 1.8 (this is without opening the map, ever). |
