hi,
Is it my imagination or are people being racist and being allowed to get away with it with just a slap on the wrist?
Too many times people have been racist and I still see them flying around after ive submitted a pettition.
If i had my way id give them a 10 day ban, that would make them think twice about being racist, The level of dicipline in eve sucks.
Whats ur story folks? dont bother to reply if ur a troll.

I tend to see frequent drips and drabs of 'casual' racism here and there, but nothing really that warrants any real concern.
Sometimes people are simply hypersensitive, near enough looking for something to be offended by to give them purpose and motivation when they've got nothing bett to do.

How can someone be a casual racist? Also what types of racism have you seen? Submitted a petition with a screenshot etc?

I hate racism and think racists are stoopid.
Even more than that, I think people who try to censor everything that offends them are worse.
Say it with me... "Freedom of speech exists to protect offensive speech" "Thought crime is abhorrent in a free society"
That said, eve is a social game. if you believe there are racists, wardec their corp or pay someone else to do it.

You are bringing the topic up, therefore you are a racist. 
Seriously, if CCP starts taking that too seriously, then the charge of racism becomes a weapon. Here in the USA, we have a president who many call black, though he is not entirely so, whose policies, not a subject of this matter, one can agree or disagree with. However its becoming a political tactic to levy the charge of racism against those who disagree with his policies. During the Bush administration years, anyone disgreeing with the "war on terror" was accused of being an anti-semite or "with the terrorists".
So we can see what happens, and how dangerous it is when you use such tactics to silence the opposition. During Bush we got an illegal war, during Obama we are getting a Caldari State (sorry, could not avoid the comparison).
So imagine if this "tool" becomes useful in EVE and CCP, afraid of being called insensitive, gets overzealoous about it. Might as well have a high-slot "Accuse of racis" module that instantly blows up the opponent and shuts down their account for 10 days. In American politics the accusation is already the ultimate "I WIN" button that has done much to destroy liberty and bankrupt a nation, so why worry about a virtual space ship?

The great thing about racist comments is that you, as the viewer or hear'er(?) of said comment is completely in control. A racist comment only has as much power as you give it. If you remember that the person making such a statement is likely a sad, self-hating bigot, you can go on about your merry way. On the other hand, if you take it personally, sucks to be you. |

Americans need to remember that blanket protection of hateful speech is a pretty uniquely American idea. That sort of stuff doesn't fly in most of the rest of the world. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hate_speech)
Also, Eve Online isn't an American game. In Iceland, simply uttering the word "******" can land you in jail. Further, even if Eve were an American game, CCP would have every legal right to restrict speech within it however they want in the interest of an enjoyable experience for their customers (the first amendment only applies to the federal government).
Personally, I would love to see CCP handing out automatic 30 day chat bans (prevents use of eve voice and chatting in any chat box, be it local, corp or private convo) for any hateful use of "******," "***got" or similar. Account banning for second offence. If you want to call someone "Caldari Pig-dog" or "Minmatar Scum," that's fine. But hateful and violent speech from the out-of-game world is just pure asshattery and shouldn't be tolerated.

This is a game where there is only 1 black race and by design they had the lowest intelligence of all races for the first 6 years of the game.
I dont see the devs being very concerned about racism in game.
