Edited by: meowcat on 17/09/2004 14:12:37 Lots of people do it.
Personally i haven't had to - i've always either escaped, been far too involved or got blown to bits before the thought even crossed my mind to pull the cat-5 out the back of my router.
Currently the game mechanics allow it, and if there's no way to tell if you disconnected deliberately or not, then who can blame the players for saving themselves? It's self-preservation, after all.
Despite this devblog the log-off-in-combat-to-save-my-ship problem continues to be the single most irritating and frustrating aspect of EVE.
And the timers mentionined in that Blog are meaningless... i've had a scrambled ship vanish completely in less than 20 seconds after they've locked me. There is DEFINITELY and exploit to get around these timers.
Simply put - who is more important CCP: those of us who play the game, or those who don't?
ships should be fully persistent at all times. end of story.
to do anything else = borking the game for those that are actually playing it, in favour of those who aren't
edit: /me crawls away, wondering if he should have posted with his alt.... |

I still think CCP should implement some kind of .hack //Sign system, whereby players are unable to log off and become trapped inside the game itself - passing into a coma in real life. This will definitely solve the problem of logging off. Because you won't be able to any more. ¼¼ ------------

Will all these people asking for ships to be fully persistant please get a life. I'm not sure if you had realised, but this is a game. There's a real world out there you know.
I don't want to have to risk 100mil+ because something comes up in rl of such urgency that I don't have time to fly back to a station.
I'd rather have my fun ruined by lame people rather than a lame system.

Quote: Simply put - who is more important CCP: those of us who play the game, or those who don't?
From CCPs perspective:
Those who always pay but never use it :) So basically those who don't
Also a knee jerk reaction like forcing ships to persist when the player is logged is simply wrong.

One of the problems of having ships permenantly stay in space with the enw scanner changes coming is that players will HAVE to dock before they log off or stand a good chance of loosing their ship.
While it sounds like a reasonable exchange at first it then forces alot of players to hug the low sec systems where there is a refuge close at hand or to stick near the empire core systems.
Imagine what happened if some fleets decided to blob each other again, these fights would then become a case of who logs of first looses since the other fleet can jump in afterwards, find where the other ships are and kill them without any fear of retaliation. This discourages alliance fleets from moving far from their bases where they can dock when its time to get some sleep, get on with their life etc.
I agree somthing needs to be done but with the elimination of safe spots in the near future keeping ships in space causes a whole new set of problems that need to be considered.
I have the body of a supermodel. I just can't remember where I left it... |

/me backtracks a bit
ok, so forget the fully persistent bit... nevertheless, something needs to be done about logging off to save your ship whilst in the middle of combat. The current system of timers is ineffective. |

they could make the timer last 300 years, there is AN EXPLOIT that makes the timer meaningless
