It all while change when stargates, POS come into the game. If they leave thier defendable object you win. So I dont see the point anyway. Besides Log on/off only effect a battle here and there and dont effect overall game play.
All I can say if you know what your doing do it well.
Sometimes the best recourse is to not whine but play. --------------------------

Now we get to the point.
CCP ain't going to fix anything they don't have proof off. Richard (lickspittle) has stated multiple times that logging on an alt does not make your mains' ship disappear from space. If you have conclusive evidence otherwise (in the form of logfiles, and reproducable steps) then I'm 100% certain that the devs will love you forever for discovering an exploit and giving them the means to fix it.
Whining or complaining in the sense of OMG RUMOUR X IS RUINING THE GAME will only serve to annoy people and cloud the issue further.
So, get a buddy, test wether or not logging in an alt makes your main disappear (in different circumstances), submit the logfile using the spiffy new bugreporting system and be happy you're not only just whining, but actively trying to do something about it.
ps. drunk, he's called Bhaal nowadays

oh, right.
The only proof i have is not being able to get further than "locked, scrambled, one elephant, two elephants, oh, where'd he go?"
But obviously there is absolutely no problem whatsoever with people logging off to save their ships. Sorry i mentioned it.
Everything's just tickety-boo.

Edited by: Caine on 17/09/2004 16:27:23 well theres been many time when my cable went down while rat hunting, only to be saved by the auto warp away... How do you keep this and prevent others from doing the same while PvPing?
the fact is, connections are fragile we need this feature for the game to be fun

auto warp away is fine. NOBODY IS SUGGESTING THAT THIS IS CHANGED.
it's the bit where your ship "disappears" after it tries to warp away but cant because it's warp scrambled that needs changing
but of course this isnt a problem, and i just made it all up |

I agree that there's a fine line between protecting ppl from real disconnects and doing something about exploiters who log to save themselves from PVP, but something really should be done. The whole idea of PVP in this game is made ridiculous when anyone who gets targetted can simply log off and have a good chance of not getting blown away.
Meow, my suggestion is thus: Encourage everyone you know to start logging off during PVP. Make sure any noobs you encounter are aware of the usefulness of this "tactic." Like just about every other MMO in the world, exploits are only seen as a "problem" when they become widely used. So start spreadin' the word
"The long and short of it is that this game, or any game, is either going to be a kindergarten where it's safe and cuddly and secure and you can play with plush tigers, or it will be a harsh place, harsh but interesting and interesting because harsh, where you must take risks to succeed and so must everyone, since victory is tasteless without danger." - Raivn Akhama

What about this idea:
If you are locked by another player, your ship persists but at an invulnerable state for an x amount of time. After that time expires and you are not back yet the invulnerability comes off and that's it. The ship is at your attacker's mercy. If the attacker neglects it for say....10 minutes then the ship disappears and you are safe.
If the person does come back within that time, the invulnerability comes off (10 secs to get your bearings and allowing the screen to load) and you should just re-engage. You should have lost all your target locks and nothing recharged while you were away.
Otherwise, just do it as it is done now. Have the ship disappear.
This solves most problems I think.

Edited by: Wild Rho on 17/09/2004 17:06:58 Thats not a bad idea at all actually.
The only problem I see is in fleet battles where ppl would use it make themselves invulnerable while a string of missiles is on their way to hit em. The logging back on after the missiles have impacted and continuing to fire.
It's not hard to get a corpmate to warp scram your ship to keep you in place during this.
I have the body of a supermodel. I just can't remember where I left it... |

I get locked by a group of hostiles, i 'disconnect' and call help through IRC or teamspeak or any other means. I wait tilla bit before the invulnerability goes away and log in. If my friends are still not ready i disconnect again, keeping my ship invulnerable. Then my friends arrive and chase away my attackers, i log in and can continue my way.
It took me about 1 second to find a way to exploit that invulnerability thingy soplease no, CCP needs to find another solution

Edited by: Daald on 17/09/2004 17:16:06 You can make it a bit more advanced where everything that is incoming will hit (missles).
As for the second problem...don't the attackers have friends?
As a matter of fact more huge battles will occur so you might consider it a feature :)
To prevent over exploitation you can allow a maximum of y logons so it forces you to become vulnerable for long enough to be killed. Also you could make it so that everytime you log off within an hour, the time you stay invulnerable becomes less and less and less :)
*edit* The point is that a hybrid solution is needed. No one system can cover both PvP and other reasons for logoff,.

Also..let me define by this "Invulnerability" a bit better.
When this state kicks in, a person can no longer fire at you (so whatever is on the way will hit), and no other person can lock you.
