Errm, salvaging quicker is the whole point of the 'ultimate salvager' really. So in that case it would be a dedicated salvage marauder with its carebear salvage bonuses.

If you're not in a marauder and able to salvage/loot on the mission, your best bet is probably a salvage hurricane with 4 tractors/4 salvagers. It's quite a popular ship for this task. |

There are a couple of things that you can do.
If you have more then 1 account, fit the marauder with 3 tractor beam and then on account 2 fit the hurricane with expanders and salvagers. This is about as fast as it gets... 2K m3 cargo on the hurricane and another 1K or so on the marauder, 40km tractor range and 8 salvagers.
On a single account a murauder with tractor and salvagers, salvage the mission as you fight. |

Personally, I use an Itty III with an AB, Overdrives, and a couple of Astronautic Rigs. Inexpensive and effective. The best salvaging ship I've seen in action, however, is an Orca.

Coercer, fast, 4x Xpander 2s, AB or MWD, 4 tractors 4 salvagers. 700+ m3.... anything else is just over priced... unless you're salvaging under fire. |

I've just been using a Condor w/ 3xSalvagers, an AB, and an Overdrive Injector. It's faster than non-capital tractor beams, which is all that's really required, and while something like a rigged Interceptor or whatever could do the job a lot faster (other races fast T1 frigs aren't different enough to make much difference), one good wreck will completely replace my little salvager, which is exactly what I want. Go ahead and shoot it... I dare ya. Promise I'll cry over the loss
Oh, were we talking about salvaging wrecks we created ourselves, rather than ninja salvaging? Yeah I got nothing, in that case

Running lvl 1 missions still, I just fly in a Thrasher (Destroyer class) with three salvagers grouped with my five guns. Saves me the ship change/second trip =) |

If you're strictly salvaging, I'd say use whatever the scavengers use - some sort of fast inty with salvaging tackles. You don't need a whole lot of cargo for just salvage. For mission looting & salvaging, I use an Orca/Hurricane combo. Orca tractors in everything, and the 'cane salvages everything afterward. Can clean up a large pocket in about 10-15 minutes with that. |

Anything with 8 highs and a large cargo. Use low slots for expanders, and cargo rigs if you got the funds.
I use the gellante dessy atm, but any dessy can do it. Drakes make good salvagers also.
cheapest route would most likely be a dessy and some cheap cargo expanders, or just can everything and return in a hauler of some sort. |

Assuming cash is no object (and for alot of missioners its not) you can build a loki with 8 highs, 40km tractors, an ab bonus and more than enough lows fitted with expanders to clean up any mission very quickly. I know you said time was no object, but i think you should be aware of all your options, even if it is only a rich mans toy.
Then again, rich mans toy and missions seem to go hand in hand. ***The EVE servers and their patches*** |

Gee... how's about you finish the mission. Then you bookmark a wreck. Then you hand in.
Suddenly, all the wrecks are floating in normal space. |

OP did say "time is no object", and "time is money", so we can conclude "money is no object" as well. T3 salvager FTW!
Either that, or use an Orca for the extended range and capacity. :) |

I use a coercer or cat (I like the cat better but rigged the coercer since both my toons can fly that one)
3 salvage tackles expander 2's deadspace ab (picked it from a pvp kill) 5 tractors/3 salvagers (and the tractors still can't keep up.

Best for what? Your question is up in the air as you didn't specify your criteria for "the best" other than time. And tbh. salvaging is all about time, so I don't really get the point of your post.
However... assuming you wanted to make money salvaging lvl4 missions, then, the best option would be a Marauder class ship. Thanks to its generous cargo space and superior tractor range(40km)... But it's really the type of thing that you have to try in order to appreciate tbh. Otherwise try flying in and salvaging 50+ wrecks in under 10 mins. and let us know how it goes(it just doesn't happen unless they are already clustered).
The Marauder approach is all very systematic... you come in, plan your route(nearest to farthest), reach mid-point and start pulling them in(five at a time), as they come in range, you loot... hit Salvager II... move on to the next item in range. Rince and repeat and before you know it(within minutes), you've got 20m in your cargo hold, it's not only "fast" its also efficient!
Then of course, Salvaging is not JUST in the ship either... you need skills! However doing the same job in any other ship(less tractor range) is not only a chore, but its just as much an inefficient one at that!
Time Salvaging in Game = 1.2 yr+ Aprox. no. of wrecks salvage = 3000+ Weapon of choice = Marauder(2x S. Tackle II, 5x Tractor Beam I, 3x Salvager II salvage lost to infamous Ninja Salvagers = 0

Edited by: Footoo Rama on 18/06/2009 19:03:10 Well this has not been asked a zillion times... But generally any dest esp with at least a 8x2x2 fit like the gall catalyst. Is most likly the best mission salvager out there. Sure you could use alot more expensive ships but you really do not get anything back. The fitting of a mwd and complete warp to BM method takes longer IMHO, as I use my tranist time to salvage the wrecks I tractored in.
4x salvagers 4x tractors (some go 3x5 one way or the other)
cap recharger 2 1mn AB (no reason to exceed 500m3 as you will start to pull away from salvage that is under the tractor)
2x Cargo bay expanders II
salvage rigs as costs allow.
cap stable with all on, about a 900m3 bay flys just under 500m3 a sec.
For alot higher cost you can use a Eris or other interdictors and fit more cargo bay expanders at the same speeds, but 900m3 will salvage almost all but the biggest level 4's |

Agree with the Catalyst but..
Highs: 3 x tractor 5 x Salvage
Mids: 1 CPR II 1 named 10MN Afterburner
Lows: 2 Cargo Exp II's
Rigs: if you can afford a Cargo Optimizer, or a Salvage tackle but those two combined is like 50Mil ISK, so I never bothered.
Speed: 1200 m/s Cargo: 890 without rigs. Price: 700k ISK, cheap (without mods) |

Warp to the mission area, tractor everything (70km range), salvage, more space than you could ever hope to need, profit.
Drones and buffer are there for the chance someone tries to suicide you, in which case you can jam them and wait for Concord to handle the situation, alternatively, fit a damage control and reinforced bulkheads and they will need an army to kill you before concord arrives.

Edited by: Cadius Vect on 19/06/2009 00:26:33 Edited by: Cadius Vect on 19/06/2009 00:25:57 This is what I use for salvaging Lv4's. The deadspace disappears once you hand in the mission so a microwarp drive is preferable. The rigs are not cheap but when you run lv4's isk is not really an issue also you get so much salvage you could make them yourself.

Then use my destroyer fit it cleans up wreck fields very fast with a MWD 6 salvagers and 2 tractors, unless you salvage while you fight in a marauder I don't see any faster way of doing it. -----------------------------------------------------------

Just not true.
Personally tend to use a harbinger as it'll go up to 1500m3 with 4 tractors and 4 salvagers. Could rig it, though it's a handy ship to have free to refit for PvP if you need it. |
