This year's Fanfest will be one of the best the universe has ever seen, and CCP Tyr, CCP's Event Organizer and Fanfest Coordinator (not to mention JSgermeister-lover extraordinaire) shares a myriad of reasons as to why you should come to the top of the world and spend time with your favorite devs. You can read his newest blog here. |

I've been to 3 FF's by now, and after each time, I've missed some kind of "channel" for feedback on the whole thing.
Both the good and the bad.
I think it's the first time we have an officially announced "goto guy" for FanFest? - So if he could drop by and leave his contact info (CCP EVE mail) that would be cool.

Going for the first time this year, solo too, since no corpmates are going. But from all the glowing comments I read all over these forums, I should have a blast. Can't wait to be honest. |

"almost everyone's favorite part of Fanfest is meeting new people making instant friends and hanging out drinking with fellow pilots with whom they play a game that they all love."
Pretty close to a perfect summary . Of all the friends I've made at Fanfest, pretty much 9/10 people make it back the following years! For some friends, it's become the annual get-together of choice for 4 years running

I hope to go this year. I've meant to go previous years, but ended up not for various reasons (financial, mostly). Paying for passes with plex might just incentivize me enough to make it happen.

Will this years FanFest get any kind of live coverage over the net for the many unlucky ones not able to fly in for the event?
I kinda remember how the talk went around previous fanfests like info and whatnot would be made available after the fanfest etc but little did we see of that.
The only fanfest reasonably covered was the 2006 one wasnt it, Or was that the 2007 one? Meh, one of those and that was AWESOME.
Moar live fanfest coverage please CCP! |

You still don't offer tickets to Finnish people. Why? Do you hate us Finns so much??
Do that and I might return to your pathetic excuse of player event. |

Anyone from anywhere in the world can come to Fanfest. Why would we not offer tickets to Finnish people?
Get your ticket here!
Please go to our Hotel & Travel page and check out the Icelandair's localized page for Finnland or check out our Dohop.com section. Dohop.com will show the best prices available at each time and provide a link directly to the site where the flight/hotel can be booked for your convenience.

It's too bad the travel times from canada require an extra 3 nights due to icelandair not having many flights out of halifax. Turns a 3 day trip into a nearly 7 day annoyance filled with musical planes. Plus tacking on $300+ just to get to the departure. |

I think a big issue with the travelling to and from Iceland, is not the price of a flight, but the timing with the event.
Most packages (if going by the cheapest price, as listed on the fanfest site) set you to arrive thursday, the same day as the fanfest starts. If you add in a couple of hours to arrive in Keflavik, travel to Reykjavik, check in at the hotel and then find your way to the venue, you'll have missed most, if not all, of the scheduled stuff thursday. And the flight home will most likely be so early in the morning that people will miss the saturday party. Not all countries have the choice of simply flying 3 hours later.
Unless you choose, and can afford, to spend more money than listed on the site, the experience of a FanFest will be a lot less fun than if you take arrive a day earlier and can take a "late" sunday flight. But for those that have more than just a few hours of flight, it will end up ruining their entire sunday so they need to take monday off as well. It's something that really needs to be looked at. While CCP can probably not do much about the package Icelandair provides, you can at least adapt the schedule to not do anything but Meet&Greet thursday, just like it was in the beginning. But if it IS possible to change the package deal for next year, set the arrival for the day before the event starts. And calculate the prices on this site accordingly.
The price listed for a trip from Denmark, is 2860 DKR. The final price, not including the Fanfest pass, was 6260 DKR. This is arrival wednesday, bus to and from the airport and staying at the Hilton, 5 minutes walk from the venue, as opposed to the Loftleidur, 30 minutes walking. Yes, I paid for the luxury of the Hilton, but it sure beats a 30 minute walk every time I need to go back there, or the price of a taxi back and forth. And arriving that day earlier, makes me ready from the beginning of the Fanfest I have paid for. Not arriving and missing 20% of it (which I always do anyway, due to drinking, but that's just me).
TL;DR version
Adjust schedule or flight packages for next year... ---

Indeed, that bothers the hell out of me. I missed the whole thursday last year due to this :/ Another day probably adds to the price, but it could be worth it to be able to go to the whole event. And really, who the hell misses saturday freely? :D ----- Why doesn't anyone ever read the forums before posting? EVE is a game of adaptation and planning. Adapt or die. |

I can answer two of those.
2. The Hotel Nordica lies just 100 meters from the actual Fanfest building. It's as close as you get, and it's really fresh too. Other option is Loftlei=ir Icelandair Hotel, which is about 2-3 kilometers from the site, not as luxurious and lies close to a domestic airport. It's a bit cheaper though.
3. Smoking inside is banned still. At least as far as the Fanfest area goes. ----- Why doesn't anyone ever read the forums before posting? EVE is a game of adaptation and planning. Adapt or die. |

Edited by: Tavis Guildstern on 02/07/2009 15:35:08 I have booked my trip to iceland a few day ago from germany.
Fra to Kev on the 30. sep. and back on the 07. okt. for 292€ ink. fly & rail and flybus in iceland, and 259€ for a 7 day stay in the lovely Hotel Cabin.
For cheap tickets, Icelandair offers "Economy spezial tickets" drawback 150€ for change of booking.
For some my preposter "fresh" last year we had fine 8ŚC and a little rain, i mean there is no bad weather only the wrong clothing.

The amounts consumed surprised everyone and at one point during the Party at the Top of the World we ran out!
We are planning for Icelandic beer and shots in immense quantities and remember that Iceland is very cheap atm as our currency has crashed.

I would advice against staying in the loftleydir (spelling?). The money you save on the room, you will spend on the taxi to and from the fanfest.

I bolded the important part.
Plus Icelandair has SLASHED prices on flights into Iceland. Holy crap. Boston -> Iceland was nearly $800 a month+ ago and priced under $500 when I checked last week for a friend.
