According to this press release Hilmar Petursson will give an exclusive first look at the companyÆs latest project, which is currently in pre-production.
Since it's the first look and exclusive, that's something we don't know about yet. What can it be ? Something about Eve or World of Darkenss ? I don't think it's WiS since this looks wouldn't be the first one on WIS - any idea what CCP is cooking ? |

I think like you said it'll be either something official to do with the white wolf game or some sneak peak update on ambulation. Or there could be the wild card of something completely new they've kept quiet on. Only time will tell. |

Its obviously "World of Darkness."
I think its amusing to watch the media feign mystery when every one who cares at all has already know for a year. |

Would be nice if this was a product that would link well with Eve online...like Eve cities or planetary adventures.

The newspost says "exclusive first look at the company’s latest project, which is currently in pre-production". Have you ever seen any kind of footage of the WoD MMO ? Has anybody outside CCP ? Is anybody else getting it sooner ? Then it's an "exclusive first look".

A game requires alot of research into the target audience or it get's no approval and thus no funds or attention. Who did CCP target with EMO demon slayers living amongst normal people?
It seems a bit niche to try make any money out of it. At least EvE is just pure science fiction and the target audience for that is world wide at all ages. A demon slaying game is going to hit the fantasy crowd and that crowd is currently playing WoW.
Realistic looking games don't do very well. Warhammer, Conan, Tabula Rasa, Dark age of camelot etc. So which crowd do CCP hope to lure with this product?
Future prediction. It fails fast.

Oh and 1 last thing. Diablo III comes out and takes a huge portion from all these games player bases. The games market has fickle audiences. You just watch.

a few weeks ago when it was announced the first time..... was said to be a game. I doubt they would hype up an eve update months out.
I'm wondering what philosophy they will carry over into whatever they're making. Are they say wanting to do something more main stream? Or say keep with an eve formula of sorts, and try to make something more complex, and harsh?
Seeing as what dev costs these days, and the current MMO market/track record making something with intentions like the outcome of EVE (by that I mean it took what 4-6 years arguably to "become popular") would not be the most business savvy. And if you take someone elses IP creativity can be stifled. Look at games workshops video games.
I can't honestly say world of darkness interests me, however im burned out on fantasy MMO's as they're a dime a dozen these days and don't do much. The 3rd person fantasy MMO i'd be remotely in would be DAOC 2. That will never happen. I'll keep an open mind, and see what OLE ccp roles out with though. |

To what i know they now have more devs than ever. The t3 ships/ wormholes were announced at fanfast and finished in march - that's lots of content in a rather short period of time. There's definitely a lot of dev power currently working on something. WiS won't be part of the next expansion, the re-balancing of dreads can't be the only thing they work on. So i hope that it's some kind of new content for the winter expansion, and not something out of Eve.
I don't doubt that CCP can make a good fantasy mmo, but as people say above, the mmo market for that kind of games is over-saturated already, lot's of new games recently entered the market (latest was Darkfall if i remember well), many other are announced (e.g. SWTOR), even if they made that awesome fantasy game, they'll have a hard time because of all that competition, whereas there are only a few space mmos and eve has a unique position and could have an even brighter future, if constantly developed and worked on.

When will you people understand that World of Darkness isn't fantasy. It was a "dark, gritty unforgiven yaddayadda" place when most of you played with your Lego bricks. WoD is a horror setting in the 'real world' and my guesstimate is that there aren't a lot of online horror games around. I for my part am looking forward to WoD and think no one could catch the athmosphere of that world better than CCP. |

Horror is still fantasy because it is fantastical.
Regardless you mean fantasy as in, swords and goblins right? Demons still exist in fantasy so do more creepy things. DESPITE THIS. It is still very niche and the market is going to attract who? horror teens? People who are into horror movies and zombiewalks? It won't have a huge fan base.
Jumping the gun, generic MMO know it all reply coming up.
Even if it is a demon blasting horror fps/3rd person rpg/micro management EvE clone set in a japanese styled "pretty" world...it will still have a lack lustre following. Unless of course, it looks very VERY good. Other than being perfect for itself it needs to do these things. 1) No gimmicks to pull people away. If your game is good, you shouldn't need gimmicks. "In World of Darkness your level is averaged out amongst your server so everyone is always on an equal footing, the bad guys to!"
2) No dishonest renamed run of the mill standard MMO features. "In world of Darkness we don't have an inventory, we have a self perpetuated stash bubble"
3) Probably most difficult to achieve is the nigh on impossible first month opening with no flaws. It has never ever happened. Huge undiscovered server lag due to memory leaks or whatnot. Unpresidented, unforseen, untested or not tested enough server stress. Log in problems from idiots. Log in problems due to the above server stress. so many things will go wrong and people get put off right away.
4) It needs more customizable options than: Champions Online. APB. IF it can do that, you potentially attract alot of Sims players of which there are millions. Horror Sims players...thousands perhaps.
and lastly 5) Don't be arogant about your product. You might think it is the *******s but every MMO out there and upcoming MMO out there is competing for the same pie, they all did it better before you, or did it first in the first place. We have seen it all, we are all cynical and impatient and fickle.
GET WOD RIGHT OR DON'T EVEN BOTHER AND FOCUS ON EVE.

An MMO that goes beyond hitting buttons on your screen until the monster dies is good in my book.
EVE can get away with it because it does it in a slightly more clever way than WoWclones. |

Edited by: dor amwar on 20/06/2009 10:22:30 coming at the end of this article, it is clear that with apocrypha out CCP will now focus on WOD. This is obviously the kick off for full production of that project. |
