Pick a Frigate of your choice, learn the skill needed for it to IV and take a look at which skills you need for using its weaponry. In addition, learn skills to use a Warp Scrambler/Disruptor, Statis Webifier and 1MN MicroWarpdrive. The best way to learn is to get someone to teach you though, learn you the ropes by flying with him. ------------------------ Low-sec is like sailing along the coast of Somalia...

Some good some bad in here but I'll weigh in.
I think a key point is know what the heck you are flying. Know how long it takes to turn, to warp, know when the tank is going to break, know how long you can run all your modules and still have cap. Understand that sitting still and slugging it out is NOT better than orbiting and slugging it out. :) Learn the weaknesses of opposing ships you choose as a target, know the folks you are flying with and how they respond. Do not rush into a 'bigger' ship just because it is bigger. Build up experience, and the way to do it is to go into low-sec/0.0 and PVP. Also....know when to run. Do something to build up some ISK. You will lose ships that is for certain. Mainly develop experience in doing it.
And as said before: If you're in a gang listen to the FC even if it means flying to your death, don't ask stupid questions on voice comms during an op in other words during an OP STFU, Listen to the FC and which target he/she calls primary.
But start on the cheap..t1 frig, disruptor, best weap fit for the ship...and a getaway plan for when things go wrong. :)

You need scrambler. ECM modules are nice as well. After that it's all upto your tank/gank skills and how you fit. Tbh the pvp in EVE is executed primarily in stations, calculating the effectiveness of your modules and fitting them. The actual fighting itself does not require any real player skills.
You seriously don't want or need to buy a character for pvp. Any PVE character can obtain the required missing skills in couple weeks.
Also, pvp is all about numbers. It doesn't matter how crappy you are if you bring enough of friendlies with you - you will win.

Patience, situation awareness, fitting for purpose, fleet comms, fleet procedures, discipline, initiative, intuition.
But! he wants to buy the character, not learn how to PVP.
OP, buy the most expensive one there, he'll surely be the best, fit it with the best, most expensive modules, lock the target in low-sec/high-sec, and shoot it, your character will be so good he won't have to be in range.

Sound advise this. Its how I started PvPing. I just hopped into a cheap ship, got blown up a few times and then I started to understand how PvP really worked, and now I mange to kick more ass then I get handed to me |

pvp cha is highly overrated
pvp green tea is MUCH better
if you are on a tight budget, maybe pvp earl grey, but go for green tea as soon as you can |

Everyone here has mislead you.
What you need:
Blobbing V. Advanced Blobbing V. Capital Ship Blobbing V. For a more leaderly role, Counter-Blobbing IV, Tactical Blob Operation I and Alt Scout operation I. To futureproof you may wish to start training up Supercap Blobbing as well.
There is no such thing as PvP. There is however P3+vP (gank), P10+vP3 (small gang fight), P30+vsP (roam), P200vP50 (fleet op), P400vP200 (fun with POSes) and P10000vP5000 (alliance politics).
If you're not outblobbing some poor ******* at least 3 to 1 you are doing it wrong.
And in summary, bigger blobs are the answer. Now what was the question? |

Took the liberty of browsing The Initiative's killboard for the last week. In almost every you made it onto the killmail in your zealot there was sizable blob helping you. I did a quick browse through the first couple of pages and did not see you as the final blower even once, suggesting you don't do much PvP -- you seem to prefer a support role in a pack.
I think the shortest killmail was 4 people vs. a rupture.
Don't take this the wrong way, I'm not trying to compare epeen lengths. But you are a poster child for my argument, not against it. Eve is first and foremost a numbers game. And in summary, bigger blobs are the answer. Now what was the question? |

OP: Listen carefully.
Take a brand new player, give him a character with years worth of skills and ISK, plop him in a faction-fit battleship and drop him into low-sec/0.0. He'll last about a minute or two before being torn apart.
But take a PvP veteran and have him make a new character. Within two days he'll be racking up kills.
Skills, ships, and modules are only tools. They allow more variety, but are unable to win battles by themselves. It is the mind behind the keyboard which makes a character dangerous... not his skills or equipment
Start at the beginning; make a new character, get out there in frigates and learn PvP. |

It is worth noting - should you care to - that apart from the "LOL why did he jump through on his own?" ganks, most of the multiple vs multiple fights... I was on the outnumbered side.
