far from broken? it's pretty broken to me and about half the folks posting here. it's not an inconvenience, or a learning curve thing, simply bad graphics.
most systems i can't see them well enough to move accurately, if the hit is below plane i get that dark disk completely blotting them out.. frustrating as i was enjoying this more than any recent patch.

Scan probe spheres do NOT need a patterned texture; current texture is terrible from an ease- of- use standpoint and furthermore isn't even particularly cool looking. The translucent texture included in Apocrypha 1.0 was superior in both categories.
The plane of the ecliptic does NOT need to be shaded: knowing whether a given signature is above or below the ecliptic is of no use to the prober, but this information can nevertheless be determined by panning the camera. Meanwhile, probes placed below the ecliptic go very dark and become difficult to see and thus to manipulate. The shadows cast on the plane by probes situated above it might be useful, but only if signature locators (red spheres, red circles, yellow red and green dots) also cast shadows; they don't.

Well some of the comments here tell me they do not use the system as intended, such as zooming in or changing their view angle. The boxes are far too large and the arrows far too small when you resize the AU to a certain point (2AU I think it is), zooming fixes that completely. It also fixes the issue of the probes and their arrows being too close together and the chance of accidentally clicking the edges and resizing the AU.
There are several bugs in it for sure and they are very annoying, the only one for me that's a real pain is the one dot for a double hit.
It also seems it affects some peoples setups more than others. It is probably because CCP does not have enough staff or systems to test things properly, which seems to be true for all the bugs (the sound ones for instance) Also if they have only one tester he will have his way of doing it and will simply not spot obvious issues if he does not know his job which is to try and break the system in as many ways as he can, not just test it works the way he knows it should work.
I'm not saying the system does not need a serious fix but its not that bad, at least for me anyway.

Truth. CCP, would you mind commenting on all this. Anything being done?

We got a vague response on the topic here Test Server Feedback back in May
