Edited by: Stems on 04/09/2006 18:05:12 Holy thread necro, then again I'm not helping anything
Currently with +3 implants and adv learnings to 4; a perc/will skill will get around 1,543,056 per month. And at the moment I'm far too lazy to do the math for anything more . I'm just happy most my attributes are fairly even at around 1800-2100 SP/hour .

At this very moment...:
My per/wil skills go at a speed of 1'274'400 SP/30days, so do my int/mem skills... and my wil/cha skills go at 1'252'800 SP/30days...
Wow, how come everyone has everything so high xD I train like a turtle

Month in/month out I'll pick up around 1.9 million points per. My best training rate nets me 1.95 million points in a 30 day month.
Looks like Stigee's gonna catch up to me some day
p.s. Belated congrats on reaching your 160th skill, Trip

Originally by: Ebjelen Edited by: Ebjelen on 29/10/2004 20:24:19 This is where the statisticians lose. I think I've mentioned in other posts that the skill gain curve is non-linear.
One of the definitions of a straight line is that it has a constant slope along it's entire length. The equation for a straight line is Y= mX + b. The only variables are Y and X. Meaning that only Y and X will change value. The b is the point where the line crosses the Y axis. The m is the slope of the line, or how fast it rises going from -X to +X. The value can be negative but is constant for a straight line.
A curve on the other hand changes slope and may not even cross the Y axis. For example, Y = cotX approaches the Y axis, but is undefined AT the Y axis.
Most of you have not only given a different slope or rates for your skill increases, but have also specified that the rate is different for different skills. This is because skill rise is modified by personal attributes and by skill modifiers. Some skills have a rate of 1x some have 5x. So for each individual, the slope of this curve changes everytime you switch to train a different skill. Although the rise may be constant at times and even for long durations, it is not always a constant rise.
In discrete math, a curve is still linear, we just use derivatives to find the slope at any given point along the X axis. Linear in this case means the slope is always definable or will always have a specific value even if not always the same value.
The second problem occurs when a skill finishes it's training. At that exact moment in time the slope of the line drops to zero because there is no skill rise until the user starts training another skill, or the same skill again. There is no line from the point where the skill was rising to zero. many people get confused by this because a computer will draw the line. That is a graphics issue, a constant bug. There is no line because the drop from say 1 mil points per month to zero is vertical. It has infinite slope.
Infinity is not a value. Infinity is not a constant. Why? beacuse Infinity is undefined. Our basic theory on counting says that when we get to what we think is infinity, we can just add one and keep on adding 1. Infinity by our counting theory cannot be a defined point. Infinity is undefined. Therefore if a curve ever achieves infinite slope, the curve reaches an undefined point and is therefore no longer linear.
If you have 80 different skills then you have reached this non-linearity at least 80 times. For evry additional level of a skill you have to add 1 non-linear point. So a veteran player's skill training curve has literally hundreds of undefined points. The problem is that a human will never be able to restart training at the exact instant another skill stops training. A computer can't do it either. A computer has to follow a list of instructions. Going from one instruction to the next will always take time.
My point? There is NO statistical LINE equation that gain be used to PREDICT skill training times across the entire user base. Not even when two users train exactly in the same progression from exactly the same starting base. Why because people and computers take time to do things.
My second point? there is no spoon.
Wow, you are sitting there saying that we cannot predict how long a skill will take to train because of the fact that a computer takes time to order qthe training of a new skill...well pal if you haven't forgotten that computers calculate things extremely extremely fast......so if you are always online when your skill finishes, then even after a couple of years you would have accumulated no more than a few minutes off of what the prediction was...so by all means if you want to point out that we are off by a few minutes then do it, but who cares?

With my alt who still needs to get the +5 implants I will be able to train 1,924,560 SP/month (30 day month) and 1988712 SP/month on a 31 day month.
That comes to a grant total of: 23,415,480 SP/year (365 days)
So I am sure that at that rate my ALT will overtake my main in about 10 years I have to take into account that I cannot only train the optimal combination of course :-(
------------------------------------------- Should you disagree with me, well I guess that is because I disagree with you. If you have a problem with that please feel free not to tell me. |

"Yes Robin, there's nothing that these despicable necromancers won't do in their mission to confuse people"
Ahem.
My non-cha stats are all within a point or two of each other, and I typically train about 1.5 million SP a month.

Alts attributes are:
With all +3's..
25.3 27.5 12.1 (haven't bought advanced yet! :() 19.8 (training advanced to 3 /sigh) 19.8
He is training navigation the fastest, at a rate of 1.743.192/31 days. Assuming elite implants, 2.037.816/31 days... :\
Assuming level 5 willpower, the stats stay the same for perception/willpower based skills.
