Ok. Remember that southpark episode where cartman freezes himself so he doesn't have to wait for the Wii to be released?

I played MW3 and MW4 a bit, and while 3 wasn't too bad it didn't feel like it had as engrossing a story as the M2 games did. Mech 4 looked nice, but I felt like they really dumbed down a lot of the game and made it too arcade-y feeling. I loved being able to spend hours customizing mechs: adding heat sinks, allocating armor, weapons, jump jets, etc. While I like that Mech 4 tried to keep some things standard (it always seemed odd seeing autocannons fire out of my Mad Cat's LRM racks. =P ) I feel like they removed a lot of the customization in the process.
What would be neat is if (and this is purely speculation) if Mech 5 brought back that level of customization, and we could really see the advantages and disparities between IS and Clan Omnimechs. The appropriate Clan mechs could fit any number of weapons and be reflected correctly on the model, while more static IS designs would be limited in what they could fit (usually this is due to lots of body and other internally mounted weapons, see the IS Atlas for an example.) Obviously there would be exceptions to the rule...
Man, I want to get home and load up DOS box and pull out MW2 again....

If it's anything like MW 4: mercs I'm buying it the day it comes out. The mch in the first preview looks like an Atlas, the second looks like either another atlas or a thanatos. Pew Pew Lazorz!!! |

MW4 did it to reduce the amount of graphical weirdness (like firing missiles out of guns or guns out of missile racks) and went with a limited modification model to support that. What I'm hoping for is that MW5 will have a more robust graphical engine where the weapon choices actually modify the way your mech looks (because that's what I expect from a 2009 high-budget game really). I want to actually see if it's a basic configuration Mad dog or the quite different threat of a Mad Dog A. ______________________________________________ -My respect can not be won, only lost. Guys, GAME ON MECHWARRIOR 4?
We can all get on vent and form up into lances for versus against one-another or team up and play VS. the online people. There is still an active online community for Mechwarrior 4 if you download the community patches (which add in dozens of new mechs and parts)

Edited by: Tzar''rim on 09/07/2009 08:58:10 I want a Mechwarrior MMO that doesn't play like an FPS but rather like a simulation, as complicated as the Jane's sims of old. With all the cool sounds, movement and drama that could be poured into it.
GIEF!
ps; MW intros are the best.

Somehow I have to think about the people wanting to be put into Cryo Sleep.
They miss the correct time to be waked up, they land in the year 3050...
... only to be stomped by a hughe Mech-Foot at the very moment, they are revived and their Capsule opens.
And that is not even the worst, think about the endless of rows of Cryo-Capsules, full of people who want to be woken up when Duke Nukem Forever is released.

IGN Article
IGN Interview
This is looking exciting people, lot of new details. First off, this is a complete reboot of the genre, not a sequel. It takes place in 3015, which means NO CLAN TECH! Should make battles more interesting. Also it is coming out for PC and Xbox 360 (SUCK IT SONY). Plans include multiplayer with a 4 player coop (GLEEEE!).
Now the only thing that can kill it in my opinion is the publisher. They don't have one yet, but Pirahna has worked with EA in the past, so I fear that might come to pass. Here is hoping it won't. -------------------------------- CCP can patch away bugs, but they can't patch away stupidity. |

Edited by: Regat Kozovv on 09/07/2009 15:09:54 Just finished reading the IGN interview. Very detailed. I was wondering about the simulation part, and I saw this:
Originally by: IGN "it's really got to go from arcade level controls to simulation level controls in an elegant unfolding of functionality. When people start, they need an entry point to be successful and have a great time without needing to have memorized lots of different controls, but you need to have it unfold for advanced players who want to micromanage."
I've been worried that this game was going to get the short end of the stick on PC, with simplified controls to cater to the console market. But it sounds like they're going to try and attempt a balance. That doesn't seem too bad.
I played Armoured Core 4 for the 360, and I was very surprised at the level of detail and customization that went into that game and what you could put into your mechs. If they retain that same sort of feel for Mechwarrior, I'll be pretty happy. =)

It appears to have an overall hit point system like MechAssault instead of HTAL (Head, torso, arms, legs) of the MechWarrior games of old. I hope that changes before release.
Also I hope that customization in the manner of MW2 is in, and not that silly ass slot system thing they introduced in later games. Oh yeah, bring back MASC.

I assume you are talking about the HUD in the trailer. If you read the article and interview, they said that will be changed, it was just quickly thrown together. -------------------------------- CCP can patch away bugs, but they can't patch away stupidity. |

Aside from the lack of colour (I mean, it's an urban environment, but that was a bit too drab for my taste. Quit trying to minimise deferred lighting and just give us some colour for crying out loud.) I really look forwards to seeing more details now.

No Clan technology means no Madcat, since it is a Clan Heavy.

Bonus.
Mechwarrior 4 to be distributed free, and totally legal for once.
OK, it's gonna look dated, but it's not like it's costing you anything.
Here it will be SOONtm for those interested.
Can't wait for the new game, just hoping they don't just pander to the console heads and leave the PC release until months after X-box/PS 3. ___________________________________________________ The game will never be over, because we're keeping the meme alive. |
