Why do I want to have the whole station name post to chat when I link a station? This "feature" breaks the way I keep track of stations in a nice simple way, in a channel motd. Is there any chance this can be fixed? |

This is a bit of annoyance, I had a chat channel we use just for quick links to systems and stations using just the system names. Yesterday it became a complete mess when they all changed to the full system planet moon station names.
Let's see if they change it back with the patch today. If the Sims all became zombies it would be easy to escape them, just shove them in a room and make them answer the telephone. |

I think it's because of localization, there was something about it in the patch notes if I remember right. The reason: if you have a russian client you will get some russian version of "... station" when a station gets linked I think. And vice versa when a russian links something. Doesn't make sense for items etc. of course... |

Finally I find a topic on this!
At any rate: This is my fault! Feel free to tweet horrible things about me while I come up with a usable solution.
As Jarne already mentioned this is due to localization: Translating autolinks requires them to actually be a sensible word in the first place, otherwise the receiver has no way of forming an expectation of what he is clicking. But even though I love being overly verbose I'll have to admit people do not like to be subjected to verbosity.
So I'll shorten things up considerably. Probably something like "Station: ORBITNAME". So Dodixie IX - Moon 20 - Federation Navy Assembly Plant would become Station: Dodixie IX - M20. That's translatable, informative and not enough characters to build a ladder to heaven with.

Totally this, changing bookmark name strings to something meaningful is a PITA. War hasn't been fought this badly since Olaf the Hairy, High Chief of all the Vikings, accidentally ordered 80,000 battle helmets with the horns on the inside. |

but this causes issues with the note pad. it can only contain so many letters. so when you try to short link something to cut back on these letters, the new links explode to full length. ok you can sit there are remove most of the link, but its just another job to do that really shouldnt have to be done |

Bookmarks - I'll see what I can do but I'm under heavy time constraints from other projects and isn't actually connected to the issue at hand.
Froghole - Although I don't agree with there being much usability behind that other than confusing people, I can probably add that back with a bit of work. Besides, confusing people is great fun! Would probably also make everyone happier if things only autocomplete if the text supplied is a substring of the actual text. That way you could make even shorter station names by naming the links Froghole 1 - Infinity.

I'd rather just be able to use the text for the link that I want, not what is forced on me thanks. Or make that an option when you create the autolink, we have a whole list of quick links that this change has made a complete mess off and wasn't required really. So this is all mostly ready on my machine.
Station links that autocomplete will complete to Station: ShortOrbitName (M instead of Moon).
All types of links can now be FrogholedGäó in the same manner as before. They will not autocomplete on any client and obviously not be translated. Currently I'm having issues with the FrogholingGäó requiring you to delete all of the text used to autolink and I'm trying to work around that because it's annoyingly confusing and I think everyone would appreciate being able to write "Jita IV", link that to Jita IV 4 CNA, and than erase the roman numeral part to only have it display as "Jita" (and never translate, even though that's a solar system name. Can't have your cake and eat it).
However, I'm not committing this today and I'm not rushing this out to TQ because this code is brittle. I'm also well out of my comfort zone as a specialized database developer that generally stops touching things once they've been efficiently fetched and properly stored in client side structures. And lastly I remember all the fringe issues I had when doing this in the first place and am mortally afraid of reintroducing them on TQ if this gets pushed out too soon.
But this is all happening. Sorry for making you wait, but patience is a virtue! And if wrath is your thing, the offer of calling me nasty names on Twitter still stands! ~ CCP Prism X EVE Database Developer If anything in this post was informative or could be considered as 'good news' to you - chances are you've misread it. |

Step 1 - Google search Froghole and click on random twitter stream of Froghole the Clown.
Step 2 - Click on some random chick that posted a comment in his twitter stream.
Step 3 - Take survey that she linked (I am a sucker for a survey) and learn that I am a mischevious furry, like a fox or something.

Sometimes it was useful that if you typed in "spiced", auto-linked it, it would expand to "spiced wine".
Other times, that causes issues where you want to use a shorter link name for space or clarity.
So I liked it and didn't like it, depending on the situation.
One possible fix is: Why don't we have tooltips that show up when we mouseover link text to tell us what the linked text is linking to before we click on it?

It's a natural body of water, bigger than a puddle, smaller than a pond. It may dry out for some month of the year, but is still big enough to be a regular spawning ground for frogs. Hence the name.
