Iceland Beckons... Are You Brave Enough to Heed the Call?
Fanfest returns to the epic Laugardalsh÷ll Convention Center, October 1 - 3. Last year flights to Iceland sold out so book your flight and Fanfest ticket as soon as possible. Browse around our new Fanfest site and check out some of the latest information regarding travel, events, promotions and what's in store for our guests at the Sixth Annual EVE Fanfest and Party at the Top of the World.
Going to Fanfest will never be as cost effective as 2009!
Due to the financial crisis we locals call ôKreppa,ô the Icelandic currency (ISK) works in your favor. Your money goes farther, buys more and keeps you partying all weekend even on the most frugal of budgets. This might be your only chance to experience Fanfest in all it's glory in exotic Iceland for less money and like never before!
Weæll see you soonÖ in Reykjavik. Fly safe!

Indeed.
This is only my third time, 2007 was the first time I could afford to go (ain't student life grand?). Yet, ever since I got a taste of the awesomeness that is Fanfest I've had this feeling that I shouldn't have let poverty stop me...
Wait, that kinda contradicts the "nuff said -> indeed" part, doesn't it? Oh well...

I can see a lot of players are coming year after year to Fanfest and some, like LuCiD, have attended all six of them! Yes, Fanfest is just that amazing!
For those dedicated attendees and everyone else for that matter we have some new and exciting content this year:
- We have an extensive Caldari theme for Fanfest this year based on the decisions of Fanfest 2008 Live Agent Missions winners.
- PvP TournamentS!: Yes, you heard me! Tournaments in plural! Aside from the all new pimped up EVE¦ Tech3 PvP Tournament we are hosting a free for all, Royal Rumble, on Thursday to get an explosive start to Fanfest! Pre-registrations are open!
- We are planning on an all new event that takes place on the Friday night, Pub Crawl with a Dev. Imagine hundreds of EVE players invading the Reykjavfk nightlife with their Dev in tow!
- Experience Iceland: We want people to see what Iceland is all about and where the inspiration for many of us comes from.
- And as always we expand Fanfest every year to have more of everything and this year is no exception. Tranquility (main presentation area) will feature impressive video and sound and moves to a larger area. The Party at the Top of the World gets yet another face lift to rock your world even more and last but not least, Fanfest attendees will be the first ones to know about the Future of EVE which is shining brighter than ever.
I look forward to seeing you all at Fanfest 2009!

I believe I saw some kind of insight thread related to Fanfest, but I think it's a goner.
Can anyone shed some light on the Fanfest package from Icelandair? It states flight and hotel, but I don't get much info about the hotel being taken care of or not. I ordered and got the confirmation for flight, but nothing related to the hotel. Do I have to book it myself?

I wondered the same thing last year, bought the package but heard nothing from the hotel (Nordica in my case), and I haven't heard anything this year either.
Don't worry, they have your room reservation. So just relax, check in and be merry.
edit: on second thought, the bolded part got me thinking. When booking I got two emails from Icelandair, one with the e-ticket and one booking confirmation. The latter clearly stated, among other things, what hotel I'd be staying at and so on. If you haven't got that then there might be reason to worry, but if it does have info about the hotel then everything's fine.

We have planned to host a CSM panel and QA will host one or more roundtables and possibly some other new events.
We will release the schedule as soon as possible but as you all might know by now, CCP Hellmar will reveal stuff at GDC Europe that might affect our EVE Online Fanfest 2009 content.

Edited by: Hoshi on 19/08/2009 20:06:35 The card looks interesting, especially since I am going to stay for a week to see the sights but I sort of fail to see the usefulness of getting 2 cards (which I assume the offer means, it's not very clear).
Yes I will be traveling with someone but we will also be visiting the sites together which means 1 card should be more than enough. Or am I missing something here? ---------------------------------------- A Guide to Scan Probing in Revelations |

This would be my first fanfest, but I'm unable to find any sort of schedule of events/seminars/roundtables.
From what I can gather, there is a pubcrawl on Thursday, a party on Saturday and a PvP party. From this thread I see that there will be video screens in the main hall displaying cool videos and there may be information on the future of EVE distributed.
Being a month out (and post-GDC), I would think there would at least be some kind of outline of a schedule with a 'subject to change' note.
I would really like to attend if it's going to be worthwhile, but for $1500, I can drink beer and watch cool videos at home with my friends.

It will never be the same as being at FF. And speaking from experience, it's worth every penny...
Regarding the card, I too fail at understanding the 2-for-1 thing. It doesn't say anything about it when ordering the card, so it would be nice with some clarification on that.

There'll often be more than just 1 or 2 things going on at a time.
Wednesday night Thursday - pub crawl, preceeded ofc by collecting tickets and a few other things that happen that day.
Friday - Various events, round tables, presentations etc. Friday night - Partying around reyjkavic, and believe me those icalandics know how to party. Saturday - More events seminars talks, presentations, tourneys etcetcetc, plus the highglight - keynote stuff which was pretty damned awesome last year. Saturday night..... drinking, dancing, mantrains, the lovely stevie and mindstar were doing interviews and whatnot last year, afaik theyll be doing it again this year. all followed by a lot of partying downtown.
Therell be agent stuff going on, chances to win prizes, exclusive loots in the eve store, plus the chance to pin down a few devs and gms and get face to face chat on why stuff is the way it is, or just chat about the game!
Its also a chance to meet and greet various eve legends and mentalists - oveur, midnighter, verone, hilmar, the goons will no doubt be there in force, eve uni, the csm etc.
Its worth the trip youll absolutely make a few friends and have a blast.
Ryas nia for example arranged a trip in 3 days from the states, and given hes coming again this year im sure you can imagine he thinks its worth it!
Only thing is, dont expect to sleep well for the whole weekend, and probably not eat a good meal the whole time either, unlessn you have your own chef ( <3 Jinx )
TL:DR
DO IT, you wont regret it.

I have been reliably informed that the ATM's back-end is linked to the in-game wallet. As such, I am not going to bother setting any real money aside as I am loaded in-game.

all of that stuff will be on your fanfest guide.
thatll be in your bag of lootsÖ that youll get on arrival.
as it was last year there was something starting every hour from the thursday at 1230L through the day.
I wouldnt get too hung up on planning stuff you will no doubt find yourself doing something completely random!
essential advices:
1) pack your favourite hangover cure in bulk. 2) In Icelands women hunt you! be prepared. 3) Its easy to get sidetracked, take a backpack into the venue and never pass up the opportunity to stock up at the bar when you get a chance, same goes for getting a bite to eat. 4) dont eat the shark. 5) oveur wants beer. 6) I do not want beer... but ill take a johnnie walker black and coke tnx. 7) Brennivin will do bad bad things to you. its like tequila but better. 8) have fun and say hello to random people, youll meet some quality folk. 9) Learn where the eateries are, it comes in handy, you may have little time for looking about. 10) Bribe Jinx Denton and hell tell you where the best post drinking eateries are. hint: he likes beer. 11) if you see a mantrain join in! you never know where its going.

Edited by: foxxytiger on 11/09/2009 12:45:33 Im going for the second time :) this time we are going for longer though, so we can see the sites and sounds of Iceland...we just didnt have enough time last year.
Fingers crossed neither of us comes down with a cold this time as I was bad just before we went, and my other half was bad while we were there grrr
Had an excellent time, only dissapoitment to me was the party on the night time. choice of drink was vodka with iceland equiv red bull or lager....so neat voddie all the way for me
Hereford steak house in main town centre was great for a night out, but it was one of the more pricey eats ( a girls gotta be refined in some ways)

Wasn't so much an 'impulse'... I'd been hemming-and-hawing for a couple weeks, mostly about how I was going to afford it. I mean, I *just* cleaned off my credit card...
But, you know what? Its been a very long time since my last vacation, and Iceland is fun. The beer just helped me hit the 'submit' button. :)

I managed to get ISK from Thomson - but I only got 165 to the ú which is not great considering it is standing at about 202 according to exchange websites. They do need to order it in though and they will ask for a deposit, but I had no issues other than that.
There were plenty of ATM's though when we got there, and there is a exchange place at the airport

The links from Jinx Dentons fanfest guide seem to be working still. And based on that the FlyBus seems to be the way to go when moving between the city and the airport.
From the same guide you can get this wonderful url http://bus.is/english and according to it moving from the centrum to the target area is not that hard.
Can someone tell us where can we get those three day tickets to these buses? The site has a list of addresses but those runes mean nothing to me...

Eve-Online Fanfest is proud to announce that for one night only ô2 Many DJsö will be headlining the Party On The Top Of The World on the 3rd of October at Laugardalsh÷ll. The Belgian Dewaele brothers, David and Stephen are well known for their combination with Stefaan Van Leuven, Steve Slingeneyer and Dave Martijn, who together formed the incredibly popular band Soulwax.
The trip to Iceland may be cold, yet the band will be met by open arms. Not only does Too Many DJÆs have a huge fan following in Reykjavik, but their sound- a mix of electrorock and clever sampling also shares similar themes with EVE-Online videos, soundtracks and inspirations. The creators of the highly popular Sci-fi game have opened the doors for the whole of Reykjavik to come to one of the largest and most creative parties that Laugardalsh÷ll Convention Center will ever hold.
We will discontinue ticket sales on Account Management on Monday. You will still be able to get your tickets at the Fanfest venue!
Best regards, CCP Tyr

Wait, are you saying that we - the very +lite of society - will be forced to party with commoners? This is an outrage!
Nah, in all seriousness it sounds pretty epic, and so does 2 Many DJs as well. I honestly haven't heard that much of their music which is a shame since I really like that style. Yet another reason to go to fanfest it seems.

I'm guessing the reason you are GLAD to announce this, is because you'll be standing next to the signup-sheets, laughing at all the still drunken people that manage to wake up in time and move their bodies to the FF area, trying to sign their name with a blurry vision?
I mean, come on, it's the FF, you don't think anyone that wants to go Dev Drinking is going to be SOBER on friday morning, are you?

I don't really think you'll have to shout, you can probably tell by the looks of the other arrivals why they are in Iceland. The last 5 years I've never had a problem finding other people that were EVE geeks in the airport. First year was kinda tricky, but listening to a conversation made it easier to tell. Every other year since then, people have been wearing EVE or other game-related clothing.
But if you do have to shout, just yell "Anyone else fly a titan?" and you'll be the centre of attention instantly. There's your travelbuddies...

You can take the FlyBus from the airport to your hotel, you can book the trip in advance (and also the trip back to the airport at the end of your stay). Total cost for a pickup and return is about 4000 ISK, or Ç22/$32.

Very true, if all goes well, that'll have to be the arrangement then.
That's assuming I can go at all now. Injured my elbow in a nasty fall last night, going to see a doctor or 1st aid station today to have it looked at, but my left arm is currently quite useless and very painful to move at certain angles. Not sure if it's a good idea to go semi-handicapped, but I'll let the medical types tell me that.

About the EvE bar... will there be EvE related items on the menu?
I for one would so like to enjoy Rusty Nail drinks while acting all Caldari and snickering at matari ships... drinking and role-playing is so much fun. I am not saying that the rusty nail is automatically EvE related, but will there be Quafe or something else...
Sadly I found out that they did not have all the components for rusty nails available this night, so I am a bit sad

Edited by: Nac MacFeegle on 02/10/2009 08:15:46 I'm here and already making a nuisance of myself. Fnar. :) Staying at Hotel Bj÷rk, which is a bit of a walk to the convention hall... going to have to figure out the bus system to get there and back, especially with the rain today.
The JSgermeister machine at the upstairs bar disturbs me.

This. Also a big thank you to CCP Tyr, I hear he's been somewhat involved in organising things... And of course everyone else; everyone at CCP, fanfest attendees and the fantastic Icelandic people who made me doubt that the country has financial difficulties atm.
Just got back from the party (yeah, I know it continues down town I don't have the kind of stamina to go on for that long (wait, maybe that was what she said? )), Imma go pass out now, see you all next year.
PS. Was also a pretty ****ing epic way to celebrate my fail alliance's one year anniversary, good timing CCP!

Thanks CCP! I thought Fanfest would be awesome and incredibly it was even better than I thought it could be! Absolutely EPIC!
Just one question... when can we sign up for next year?

Most recordings have been put on youtube but the one of "2009 in review" by Tony Gonzales is still missing. Can this one get uploaded as well?
