I've tried to like them. I really want to like them. But I just can't. They don't seem like they are appropriate for space combat; feels like they came straight out of a flight combat game with their smoke trails and what not. The old missiles had that old Star Trek-y feel for some reason. I also don't really like the launchers. The Cruise/Torpedo ones are cool because they are "inside" the ship, but the external ones again look like they belong in a flight combat game. Especially Rocket Launchers.
Point of this thread? I don't know. Just felt I needed to share it. Gallente is what America believes itself to be.

You sir are in a very small minority. Also, try a rocket heretic for giggles. Load different ammos into all of the launchers for some fireworks!

Problem with missiles is that you cannot see them at a distance. I'm in two minds about the smoke feel they are a bit to smokey. Love the launchers.

it's OK man, there's no need to feel ashamed. You've correctly recognised that you have a problem, and that's the hard part. Simply ask your doctor to refer you to the appropriate specialist and the rest will pretty much take care of itself.
Godspeed and good luck with your treatment. Malcanis' Law: Any proposal justified on the basis that "it will benefit new players" is invariably to the greater advantage of older, richer players.

I can see what you mean, smoke and explosives probably shouldn't look like that in space. But then again ships explode all the time in EVE and I've gotten used to that.
Eve uses flight game physics, flight game graphics, flight game everything, because we probably wouldn't be able to relate to realistic space stuff. But we have seen plenty of dogfites in movies.
I remember one space game that tried to be realistic, the sequel to Elite. It was called Frontier and was 80% unplayable. I had one kill in that game, a fight that lasted 5 hours straight without being able to dock and save. It was a cool game in it's own way, but not really suitable for playing.
All I meant to say is that I appreciate that EVE often use the rule of cool, instead of trying to be realistic.
There's a nice video of Frontier on youtube, but the guy playing just do some trading on auto-pilot. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pt29cTOWgzI |

Something just seemed of, couldn-¦t put a finger on it and that-¦s exactly it!.
Those are no SciFi missiles but crap that would launch from today-¦s ships/subs and AA-batteries. Once the novelty wears of it will be one more thing people will want to switch off.

But it is the sort of space combat we've grown to expect from franchises such as Star Trek and Star Wars, amongst others. Honestly, I don't feel like I am flying an airplane in a space-like environment; I feel like I am flying a space ship.
The new missiles and their launchers, however.... they're just too airplane-y. Gallente is what America believes itself to be.

Excuse me while I just ROLL and PITCH my ship in order to turn it instead of just firing some thrusters to YAW to my desired heading.
Also excuse me while my ship reaches terminal velocity as it flies through the viscous space aether that also slows the ship down to zero after my engines stop firing.
Let me tell you about 'real' space combat. 2 Ships spot each other in space, fire nuclear missiles at each other from 8AU away, the missiles cross each other and both ships die about 2 weeks after they originally fire ze missiles. |

Stop using crappy mangas to make your non existing point. EVE has it-¦s own "science" and even by those standards these missiles are off.
That-¦s nice and completely irrelevant to EVE. Barely extrapolating the crappy contemporary science.
Reminds me of how the 50ies thought the year 2000 would look, actually they had more creative imagination then the above site displays. |

As I have stated again and again, Star trek does it like EVE and we've grown to accept it as plausible in our collective nerdy hive mind.

If they made the trails a bit less intense and made them into firey orange (like the old missiles) it would be fine. Oh yeah, fix the snowball-like impact of the missiles too. Gallente is what America believes itself to be.

And here I thought that chemical reactions burning could indeed create smoke in space that would slowly dissipate as the atoms in the vapor drifted apart.
Then again, I also thought that explosions could ignite ships full of oxygen in space, at least until the oxygen burned off.

1 thing i would like to comment & agrere upon, is, you cant see them from a distance, to a flame trail/marker should be at least visible, as so i can see where there going at great distances.
And as for the scatterring effect, i personally think its great. hitting the same place on an object was gettign a bit boring. Next thing i want to see, is impact on shields ( if there's any left lol ) with some sort of effect. Only time it should actually be hitting ships hulls, is when your in armor or hull

Don't have much issue with missiles except the fact that they look like male reproductive cells when fired en masse. |

And this is how crappy an actual chemical rocket exhaust looks in space. LEO in this case but the absence of an atmosphere to interact with is the point here. |
