I have a Dominix with 13 total drone control; I use it mainly for mining, since I also own 15 Harvester drones. However, I'm having difficulty choosing what combat drones to use for protection while mining in .6 security space - ATM, I use Hornets and some Wasps I recently picked up, but I notice that my Wasps sometimes get damaged while attacking NPCs but my Hornets have not had to be repaired in about a month. I realize that the Hornets are very fast and can outrun NPC frigate turret tracking speed, but I still am curious about two things: how fast must the drones be to outrun the tracking of the common Guristas NPC, and what drone type does everyone use to defend themselves while mining? Thanks.

head over to eve-i and take a look at the info on rat's you face.. Look for the damage types they are weak against, could be kenetic then get your self a few kentic damage type drones. Heavys are still able to kill frigates but just take a while longer where as light drones are faster and cheaper to replace..

Heavies- ogres best choice as toughest.
Medium - i use hammerheads, not sure why but they do the job.

for .6 your probably best suited with a set of medium drones.
personally I hate using only one damage type of drone.... it just annoys me.
if you throw say, 3 hammerheads, 3 vespa's out there (thermal and kinetic) it should be able to VERY handily deal with any belt rats in .6

basic: you know where to buy and cost
harvesters: only from escrow (other players as they are from old "stocks") price is around 5m isk per 1 harvester, check trade forum here for them too
oh and if you dont understand those are only availible drones now

Also if you wait until the NPCs are all actually firing on you, BEFORE launching your combat drones, you will find they probably won't take any damage at all.

praetors is my reccomendation as they have good tracking speed and good flight speed themselves. 2 of those will take care of anything you find in .6. ogres are ok but much slower so they take more dmg but do more dmg themselves, praetors are the opposite and wasps are in the middle.

u see it but no one got the bpo for it.
and no one knows if they are released or not.
anyways shiva got a bunch of new drones dude.
specialised drones.
and the trick with drones is not just to pull them when the enemy is shooting
you should let the drones auto attack.

ha, when I came back to eve after some time off, I asked how much harvester drones sold for. I almost soiled myself when I heard they were 5Mil each.
I had to chuckle as I moved my stack of 50 through safe space whilst afk.
