As the title states, I'm a returning gallente specced character, who's just returned after quite a long break. I left just before the speed nerf came in (not because that nerf was coming in I'd like to point out)
I've browsed the forums and can see that a hell of a lot has changed, and perhaps even more has been added, and I'd just like it if anyone could fill me in on the stuff I've missed for the last year or so; in particular, just how much blaster boats have been affected by the speed and webber changes, and what this wormhole stuff I'm hearing so much about it actually like.
Cheers

Yea thats the general vibe I keep hearing, however I'm not about to give up on my damn sexy array of gallente blaster boats, so what I really want to know is what major changes to blaster combat tactics have been brought about by these changes? Cryin' Won't Help You, Prayin' Will Do You No Good

well, webs are a lot weaker and warp jammers (7km) turn off MWDs.
This means its harder to get on top of people, but a bit easier to stay on top of them. Drones are still perfectly fine. And Thoraxes/Megas still own, so i don't know what people are talking about. ------------------------------------- My other alt is a Ferrari

Not much really, I am a blaster boat pilot myself, and beside the fact that i lost about 25% of my mwd speed and a warp scram will shut down a mwd where as a warp disruptor doesn't not much changed. Then again, you can really get a nano phoon to go 6000 m/s anymore and overall, most ships took a 30-40% velocity penalty it seem.
And worm holes are really just 0.0 space for care bears, you can't get sov or use cap ships unless you build them in the wh...

Ok cool, so these threads constantly moaning about the death of gallente are just massive overreactions, and in fact other than taking a week bit longer to get into range, blaster boats are still the most fun way to pvp? Good to hear, ain't no way I'm giving up this level of sexiness Cryin' Won't Help You, Prayin' Will Do You No Good

as long as heavy drones rip anything with an AB apart unless it does 0 m/s, there'll have to be plenty more nerfs to drones.
same for fighters really, but at least you can have those warp after you to a safe spot and step "safely" on the breaks there to shoot them.

The gallente nerfs I know about: - Drone bandwith (bye bye Myrm) - Nos/Neut nerf (bye bye Nos Domi) - Helios model nerf (this one proved devs hate gallente, helios already sucked compared to other covops but at least it looked good) - Speed nerf (bye bye blaster boats) - Sleeper AI (bye bye drone boats)
Upcoming nerf: - Sleeper AI to all mission rats will be the last nail in Gallente's coffin, drones will be useless for PvE.
With all these nerfs there is nothing a gallente ship can do, another race's ship does better.

It's not a question of what other races ships can do better, because no other race can smash in with blasters in a blaze of plasma contrailed glory. I dont intend to cross train really, all I'm after is what I need to take into account nowadays for flying gallente, as I will be flying gallente hehe.

I believe pulse laz0rs do that from like 4x the range.
Scram shuts down mwd so you can't get in blaster range anymore and your web will not be enough to slow down that frig orbiting you...
I guess a couple weeks and a few billion in gallente ships lost you will see the light and will be regretting you didn't start Amarr Frigate 1 when I told you so.

Taranis and Ishkur are both good, but yes the rest t2 cruisers are outclassed by amarr.
To op, you will have to discover for yourself. Sometimes gallente are still good, but othertimes our range and tracking problems on larger ships get irritating.

Wrong. Have you considred anything else they the petty c1 and c2 WHs?
You can jump in carriers and dreds just fine.
As for no sov there: Hell yeah! Its like 0.0 should be imo, cold and dangerous (not endless boring POS shooting). And no local ftw!
Its also a great platform for piracy if you know how to use it.
Carebears really have no business in there, unless they are running the restrictive c1 and c2 types, but thoose systems suck anyways. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I would tend to agree except that wh space is the one place you can go where no one shows in local unless they talk. so Wormholes make a good playground for the non-carebearish too.

Not quite in the same style or blaze of suicidal glory.
Besides which, I would never expect to be able to hold down a frigate and kill it in anything bigger than... a frigate. And I still have my lovely drones, though not as many apparently lol

Gallente blasterboats have been nerfed to hell and back, and are simply no longer a viable option.
You can still use them ofcourse, but you'll probably lose them. A lot.
Speed has been nerfed, so you'll take longer to get into blaster range. Tracking was never any good for blasterboats in their range, but with the webbing nerf, it's even more of a problem now. Missiles are now affected by sig radius, so approaching a missileboat with your MWD on means even frigates will hurt you (at any range). In addition, scramblers turn off your MWD, so anyone with one fixed is able to dictate range on you.
Combined this means that using blasterboats is simply infeasable. I personally haven't seem them used with any effectiveness for a long time.
Gallente still have some ships that weren't hit too hard by the nerfbat. Blasterboats however aren't among them.
But go ahead, fly blasterboats. We'll all laugh at you after you got podded. -- Quis custodiet ipsos custodes? |

And which of these applys to gallente only, and not all other races?
Sure you go slower, but so does everyone else. But one thing to notice, drones aren't nerfed at all.
And by the time you are in double-point range, you can double point them too. They web you, you can web them. And by the time your ships slows down enough to reach normal speeds from your MWD, you've already got within blaster range anyway.
If anyone should complain, then its minmatar (Because AC's are so horribly short-range) or caldari (Because if a target goes any faster than 100m/s caldari won't hit worth ****), so i don't see any reason for Gallente to be complaining the loudest.
But then again, you guys are French... ------------------------------------- My other alt is a Ferrari

The fact that you can't get the bonus from their MWD sig bloom also makes things worse.

The web nerf, in particular, because the effects of speed are magnified at closer range — i.e. when you need to be when using blasters. At 6k range, the difference between a target travelling, say, 100m/s (post-nerf) and 25m/s (pre-nerf) is minimal; at 1.5k range, it's huge. ——— “If you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡… you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.” — Karath Piki |

Its not a case of not getting it, its a case of doing it myself to find the results, but simply inquiring as to what I need to be aware of, and attempting as best as possible to remain flying my favourite style of ships in this game, yknow, for funsies. Besides which, I'm not going to be running around solo all that much, so I expect there to be more than 1 web on the primary

Edited by: UMEE on 11/08/2009 02:45:44 blaster boats are vastly outperformed by pulse laser platforms...very similar dps, but amarr do it from 2-4x the range. speed nerf also means that half the time you may not even reach your target before it is a) melted by a bunch of harbingers/abaddons in your gang or b) before youre scrambled and dead in the water.
drone boats are in my opinion still some of the most effective ships in pvp, especially with sentries. so domi, ishtar, ishkur, vexor, and on an unrelated note the ranis have the potential to own face. luckily i didnt train gallente for the blaster boats.
blaster boats like the brutix, rax and mega are still very effective, but they just dont bring anything unique to the table, like the ships i listed above. for example, a pulse abaddon or the torp raven are much more effective than the mega in the short range high dps role. in addition, pulses are overpowered on ships like the abaddon and the apoc because they can hit at ridiculous distances with scorch crystals for decent dps. the apoc for example can reach 100km with pulses. which is just stupid in my opinion.

I can only tell you that you can skip on Blasters for the most time.
In fleets, you do more damage with Rails since most targets are in range and the "fly to" time you save with Rails results in more damage than with Blasters in the end.
For solo stuff, you need a good tank but that makes you slow and especially around gates you need the warp disruptor or otherwise the target just warps off before you get even near scram range. But with the Warp Disruptor you can't kill the mwd and you will end up half dead until you even get into optimals with your Blasterboat.
But in general it became far too easy to escape a camp after the speed nerf. In the good old days you had to have at least some experience to travel through Low sec but now every wanna be 2 day old can do it |
