Hey,
I was just looking to get an opinion on this from someone who knows a bit more about the game. I'll be going to South Korea soon and I won't be logging into EvE for quite a while. Before I leave, I'll pay for 30 days and start training either Battlecruisers V(23d) or Caldari Battleship V(30d). But I'm torn.. The skill that doesn't get picked won't get trained for a long time, because once I return I have a looong list of other support skills to do. So, which one would I benefit from more? I plan to do missions and look for a corp to maybe get into some PvP action later. I heard the best PvP Raven is the one that stays in the station, while I've heard that drake can be a powerful part of a fleet..
So, which one? X_X

Get battleships (imo)
Armor tanked torp raven can be useful in rr bs gangs Rokh is an awesome fleet ship
and if you like running missions, then getting that extra level for your cnr is always awesome :)

BS V, it leads to Caps, Golem, etc. If you have good leadership skills and want to train for a CS, you may want to Train BC V.

Neither is a much of goal in and of itself - both are useful for what they lead to.
If you want command ships first, do bc5. If you want t2 bs or caps first, do bs5.
BS5 opens more doors (fully or partially) than bc5. __________________________________________________________ Please resize your signature to the maximum file size of 24000 bytes. Zymurgist |

Most people get more use out of battle cruisers than battleships in pvp. As you don't seem to have that much pvp experience, you probably won't be flying battleships into combat for some time - especially, if you have a "looong list of other support skills to do."
Also, the great thing about BCV is that it works with all race's battle cruisers - it's one of the most useful level Vs within spaceship command, imo.
For pve, though, I would definitely go with BSV, but you're going to want them both in the end.

I think I've moved 75/25 towards battlecruisers, eventhough it appears you guys are just as divided about it as I am :p

You'll eventually train both anyway, so just pick whichever fits how long you're going to be AFK for. If you're gonna be away 22 days or less, then BC V, 23 days or more: BS V

I'm training for Command Ships, and don't like Battleships, so my answer is obviously Battlecruisers V. |

The same (I don't even plan on learning any BS skill for my 2 years skillplan...) Besides, I like crosstraining. So BC is good, it applies to every race of ship.

I just did level V to BC, but then again, I didn't want to spend all the extra time training for BS sized weapons (another 30+ days for just the T2 guns for mission running), when pushing my Mrmidon to level V really helped survivability for level IV missions...
For me it was a time saver as now my level IV's are smooth (though slow) and I can focus on my core certs and leadership support skills.
Its the time trade off, what else do you have to train to make it worth while compared to what you want too do.

Instead train Large Hybrid Turret V if you can. Don't be one of those Caldari without gun skills in PVP. It limits your options to only a handful of viable ships. A BS IV or BC IV with T2 guns >>>> BS V or BC V with T1 guns. And if you have the gun skills you can easily cross train to Gallente to fly the Brutix and Mega as they also use Hybrids. It will open up your PVP options far more than BC or BS V. Unless you are going for caps, in which case BS V.

BC V and siege warfare skills. rather be a useful caldari and give shield bonuses to carriers etc than trying desperately trying to justify missiles - and then flooding the forum with "boost missiles"-threads |

Depends on your goal in the long run. IMO since you are Caldari I'd go for BCV since that would unlock the Nighthawk which is a very sweet command ship, especially if you are a mission runner.

Thing is though, that if you train BC V you have max bonuses with any race's battlecruiser.
But I agree with one of the above posters, saying that if you're leaving for > 23 days train BS, and if not train BC.

I would TOTALLY go for Battlecruisers. It'll allow crosstraining to other races MUCH easier. For PvP Battlecruisers are easier and cheaper. Unless you plan to be a capital pilot, it would be generally advisable to do a BC, even for missions- they can do anything short of a L5 alone, where most BSs can't do alone.

BC5 gets you 8 ships maxed-out (plus access to another 8 ships, the command ships, with a bit of additional training). BS5 gets you 3 ships maxed-out (plus access to another 1 ship soon - the marauder, and up to 5 more with a lot of additional training and ISK cost for the fifth - black ops and the racial capitals).
Unless you're really dead-set on getting a capital ship, or really want a marauder for PvE, or maybe really, really need to squeeze out every last bit of performance out of your BS for fleet PvP... I'd say go with BC5 first.

When I left the country for three months, I trained two cruisers to V and just made sure I could swap things out at some point in the middle.
Never looked back.
Since then, BC5 has been an amazing boon. About to hop into a Harbi once I finish medium pulse specs just because I can. Swapping between a Drake, an occasional Ferox, a NH I love dearly, a Brutix, and the now-not-so-great Myrm has provided much variety and fun.
Oh, and I didn't hop into my first BS until my main was nearly five years old and the BS skill was at 4 with good support. It can be done; I've just found more use from cruisers and BCs.

As a general rule of thumb for all races: BS V for PVE. BC V for PVP.
Other people have said go BS because you are caldari; I think the exact opposite: go BC because you are caldari.
Raven doesn't get hugely better for pve with lvl 5 (although its nice), rokh needs gunnery skills you probably don't have, and the scorpion (which used to be worth getting caldari BS V for alone) is weaker now than it once was.
The Drake, on the other hand, DOES benefit hugely from that extra level, and is one of the best ships in the game for small and medium gang work for the cost. It can be cheap-fitted and lost for a negligible amount or fully t2/gank fit and rigged out for a better-than-BS tank and decent anti-support damage. Also, it has its uses for pve too (as does the nighthawk if you want to go that route).

If capitals are a goal, definitely BS V. Personally, I'd go with BS V anyways, since it fits the time better, and wastes less training time. Always time to do BC V later :)

Well, I just started training 23hrs 50 minutes worth of other skills and then added BC V after it. I'll be unplugging my interwebz now and won't be able to change anything untill I come back, hope I made the right choice. Thanks for all the opinions!
