So for a long time EVE has defied MMO trends and continued to increase its subscriber base. This is, of course, because the players (and to some extent the devs) have been creating new content.
But EVE today, at least 0.0 EVE, is largely static. For the past 2 or 3 months, after the collapse of Kenny, nothing significant has changed on the sov map. A few minor alliances (looking at you IRC) have fail cascaded, the drone Russians have taken a few more systems, CVA has dropped some more stations, the NC has added a few more blues.
But nothing significant has changed; there have been no backstabs, no compromising spy leaks, not even any game-changing battles (there have been a few large cap battles, but thanks to the resources available to the alliances involved in said battles, the impact was actually slight).
I took a look at the recruitment forums today, and noticed that there were virtually no 0.0 alliances recruiting. A few unimportant NPC groups (like Blade.) were looking for fresh blood, and a few of the bottom tier pets were trying to expand their tax base. But there were none of posts I used to see during the Delve war, with Bob pets and NC pets all clamouring for new players.
The character bazaar, usually turning over pages at a breakneck pace, was moving sluggishly. Posts from yesterday could be seen on the front page. Few auctions had more than one or two bids.
And in a final testament to this malaise, timecode prices have evidently dropped almost a hundred mil from their high.
Maybe DUST will fix this, maybe CCP can find some other way of encouraging people to keep playing this game. But without heroes and villains and wars of 10,000 player coaliions, there isn't much reason to keep logging in each day.
Eve is dying. Both powerblocks are sitting on their hands waiting for the other to make the first move. Meanwhile their players stop logging in.

It is like this every year, then September comes and something changes, like last year Goons losing 90% of its land, TCF getting humilated and moving north, just wait a few weeks things will change.

For most players, the game isn't in null sec. Something like nine in ten players do other things, and most of them care only peripherally about 0.0 goings-on. Most of them don't read the boards or care about board-spam either, and don't have anything to do with major alliance "heroes and villains".. they're their own heroes, and their villains are the can-flippers, freelance salvagers, and war-deccers.
PLEX/timecode prices were inflated and are adjusting naturally to fall in line with the actual demand for their use, as upwards speculation has run it's course for now. There's actually a dev blog regarding this.
Your case for the iminent demise of EVE is not compelling.

Yup this pretty much sums it up, 0.0 isnt as popular as 0.0 alliance make it out to be, while the activity is high there sometimes majority of even 0.0 alliances remain in empire. However saying that it would be nice for a decent 'drama' in 0.0, after BoB went MIA it has been pretty boring and C&P are far more entertaining than the 'I BLUE you' drama in 0.0.
I dont see EvE dying, in fact it has increased in popularity over the past year and offers more that other MMOs, but I do see 0.0 losing its popularity, after all nothing but name calling and NAPs happen there,..

0.0 is a means to an end tbh, but that doesnt mean I dont like it, it does work well with RL history of commanding and conquering with propaganda deception and lies, I just hope it doesnt turn into RL where everyone holds hands and tells make out stories in their underwear, but it seems it may be leeding to that.
Real piracy and action happens within empire, 0.0 generally became popular through verite, people wish to grow their own empite but fail to pay attention to what needs to be resized ;)
Eitherway EvE isnt dead nor will be dying for a VERY long time,..

Edited by: Ekon Bor on 26/08/2009 03:25:32 I assume (and acknowledge that it's only part of your argument) that one of the reasons GTC's might have fallen in price is this whole Unholy Rage (idiotic name btw) mass-ban thing? If that's working (and I have nfi whether it is or not) then that would presumably mean, less black isk is available; and so the price of isk, both legit and otherwise, rises - so what you get for a GTC on-market goes down?

Just in time too, once the napfest conquers all of 0.0, we can all quit and go play The Old Republic.
Russians will be sith ofc (you are evil ) NC will be high-minded jedi because we are gay, and goons will be bounty hunters running around killing everything.

People! TO THE ESCAPE PODS! WE MUST FLEE THE END!
Now for a serious response: I've never been a 0.0 PvPer (re: IMA CAREBEAR), but I've always enjoyed playing EVE's Empire side. Then, one day, I discovered wormholes and the game was re-invented for me. So quit whining because your favorite part of EVE is stale because people have consolidated their power. That's how both life and EVE work. The most you can hope for now is for CCP to go all anti-trust on their asses and do a forced Sov reset. That'd make things really hilarious.

This may be the case, but how many of those empire accounts are actually alts (very much like this one ) of people who live in 0.0?
As well, one of the main selling points of Eve is the sandbox of 0.0, I think that's what attracts people to this game and generally motivates them, even if they spend almost the entirety of their game time in empire. CCP ignores 0.0 at their own risk.
