I am not making this topic to be flamed but I picked up EVE to see what it is like. So far I find myself in a dilemma as to whether I will actually pay to play.
My main problem is that mining is the only decent way of making money to start with and its as dull as dishwater.
The Decision on whether I stay will be governed by how good SWG is as well. As when I get that I will still have two weeks of free play left on EVE.
As I see this game now it has great potential but I am not sure it will last long enough.
Who else is thinking of jumping ship ?

just join a good corp and start actually PLAYING the game. You¦ll have fun, trust me. I¦m not even going to explain what you can do to have some fun. It¦s all so obvious if you don¦t see then really you should move to another game.
Just a suggestion tho.

I noticed a huge improvement in fun after joining a corp myself. I think part of the fun in Eve is talking with people and working together towards common goals.

I used to have fun but lately it's getting boring - they need to implement some promised features ... soon.
if i'm not seeing reverse engineering/implants/drugs/tech research/stations soon i'll certainly quit just cause it gets boring. You get to a point where you have everything one can have in eve. Currently the aim is just to get a bigger ship and max out your equipment. Once you have your bship will leet modules and decent skills what's the next aim ?
Probably many will roam noob areas and kill everything in sight - a bit fun for some time (and more whiners) but that's getting lame very soon.

Sorry but being a member of a corp means that you can mine faster well whoop de doo. But even so this game is a mining simulator.
The trade aspect is pointless.
The manufacturing system is a nice idea but all items cost to make is ore and not other materials which again makes trade irrelevant. Also you have to find a factory.
Research love too but can't find a research slot. Probably why people with them make loads of money from bp's.
Combat well this is ok but only against npc's where combat takes longer than 30 secs. But even if PvP lasted longer the downside is you lose a lot of time if you lose your ship and have to replace it.
Mining sit in a system turn your laser on go away and do something else come back an hour later when your indy is full. This isn't fun its a screensaver with an annoying laser sound effect.
As I said great potential but it is just sadly lacking.
You want to see a great way to set up an economy for factories and stuff look at the X games. I know they are single player but they have a great system where the factories use products produced by others.

Being part of a corp means you mine with more people next to you:) or you are the Industrial that transports the ore from the people that mine. I love mining, I switch on MACRO and I go to bed:)
He he I also shot few players, and killed few pirates... that's about the most fun I had.
SWG... please gimme what I'm looking for.
I must admit, I didnt get bored of Earth and Beyond as fast... took me a good 5 months before getting bored of that, AC2... took about 2 or 3 months... EVE:) less then 1 month.

I dont normally reply to these kinds of posts but i think its worth a try mainly because after quite a long period on my own (actually having fun once i found out there is more to do than just mining) I finally joined a corp - and I agree Its great. I hardly EVER mine . I fly defence for the miners so I get to fight alot. If i get killed my Corp replaces my ship - thus reducing the risk someone above bemoaned. Further more we practise PvP combat inter corp - down to zero shields - and its really great fun. So when we do encounter the bad guys we know what we are doing.
If u are bored of mining - get out there and and make the most of things. Pirate hunt - explore (my personal fave) - U say trade is worthless but i know people who are making a fortune off it - u just have to be prepared to put in the effort of finding a good route.
Even if you dont join a corp you can maximise your fun by finding like minded people and working with them
Or why not get involved in some of the politicalstuff? The rivalrys between Races can be real fun and there are people out there that will role play their race well (a bit harder to find - to many OOC peeps - but thats life).
Check the explorer forum on eve-i.com for some of the fun stuff u can find out there.
Ultimatley like most MMORPGs its what u make of it - if you sit around by ur lonesome mining endlessly - getting negative about it you will obviously not enjoy it - but if u emmerse urself in the universe , get creative and make the most of the good people out there (while avoiding or learning to hate the bad ones) you will have a much better time.
I for one love this game.

I paid for 3 months of it and so far I love the game and do not intend to leave.
At first it was kinda boring but it was tolerable. This was when ark and bist and crok could be found in 0.4 systems along with HARD pirates.
I managed to save enough for a Vexor.. then I joined a small but successful corp and I enjoy that very much. We're almost like a family and we watch each others' backs.
Occasionally, we take treks to 0.0 space and kill pirates, collect the bounties and loot, and put the stuff we don't want on the market and render the rest down into minerals.
We have other more serious ways of remaining successful; that's just a little side hobby, you see. :)
After three weeks, I drive a well-fitted Thorax and I have lots of fun without ever having killed any players.
Yeah, I'll go after merchant ships occasionally, but that's just for some quick trade goods and the occasional good ship items.
All in all, I have great fun with Eve and I would never seriously consider putting it down.

One warning.. Star Wars Galaxies is suckage. Graphics are nice, but the game is buggy as all hell, DEFINITELY not ready for release.. AND they're charging $14.95 per month AND they're giving out "cool new" ingame costumes that only come with the $79.95 Collector's Edition. *shrug* I'll stick with Eve.

Hey there,
I just cancelled 2 accounts some 10 minutes ago. Now that SWG is about to hit retail and the fact that CCP has done so little to improve things, I felt that it would be a waste of money to carry on.
Oh, yeah - I can already hear people itching to state that I should stick with EVE because SWG sucks - hehehe. Tough luck! I'm betatesting SWG - gotcha, so I know exactly what I'll be getting myself into, for better and for worse (and I betatested EVE as well btw). The thing is, SWG might not be perfect and bugfree, but at least it's more ready for release than EVE was and IMHO it offers more content even though it can get a bit grindy at times when trying to get the needed XP or resources. Much less grindy than EQ/DAOC though... and more casual/solo friendly IF you use your brain (over the course of 2 months, I haven't died ONCE!!! - permadeath? no problem!)
Furthermore, the more I play SWG, the more I like it. I didn't like it to begin with, hence my reason for going hardcore in EVE and getting 2 accounts while doing the occasional SWG, say during EVE downtime. Unfortunately, the more I play EVE, the more boring it gets, whereas SWG gets more and more interesting (hey, I'm now good enough to enter that cave and take a look). Doesn't make it hard to decide, does it? Of course, it's all personal preference... what's good for me isn't good for the next Joe down the line... so, there ya go.

LOL, no offence but; "SWG gets more and more interesting (hey, I'm now good enough to enter that cave and take a look). Doesn't make it hard to decide, does it?"
I betatested SWG too, got 4 beta accounts because I wanted it soo much a year ago. But then I began to see the light. A game where PvP is static or you both need to agree 4 times each. Where you can¦t keep spies out in any maner. No Z axis should say it all. DAoC got Z axis and it was one good sweet thing about it.
SWG is another in the EQ line, it¦s actually EQ in space now. It will ofcause also set new records for payment. But what do you do in SWG. You kill 16000 wombats to gain a skilllevel with your blaster. You gain items, build your house, shop or whatever. Maybe a city. Then what..gain more items? Goto the static battlegrounds? Or wait for the space expansion?
And when you are back in space with the spaceexpansion. Then you are back in EVE, just more simple. LOL

Mining is the only way to make money? So untrue.
In retail the ONLY mining I have done is in the tutorial. I'm freelance too (I like being on my own, but that's a personal preference: plenty of interaction when I want it) and although progress is obviously slower than a corp's I am doing well. I'm trading, building a couple of frigates and really need a employye or two (see my post about a problem setting up courier missions).
If you want to leave that's your choice, but I have to say that I don;t think you've explored the game fully if you think mining is the only way to make money.

Quote: "I betatested SWG too, got 4 beta accounts because I wanted it soo much a year ago. But then I began to see the light."
Heh, the "began to see the light" comment tells me that I'm probably wasting my time with you, but what the heck? I'm in a good mood.
Static PVP doesn't bother me at all, because PVP was not, has not and never will be my reason for playing MMORPGs. If PVP ranks high on your list of priorities, then yes - SWG is teh suck at the moment from what I've heard. Then again, with cruisers being so damn expensive and the potential to be blown up in 30 secs., I wouldn't really pick EVE if PVP was my main goal... unless you're the kinda guy who likes spending hours mining the materials for a new cruiser.
Z axis? Big deal. It's actually more anoying than good in EQ/DAOC since I get stuck and take damage (ever tried falling to your death in Dagnor's Cauldron in EQ because you had SOW and trying to run away from a mob?). It's only when climbing buildings and such in DAOC RVR that it gets interesting.
Yes, SWG is another one in the EQ line. Whenever people claim that SWG is EQ in space and list that as a major complaint, I can't help but laugh. Like it or not, EQ has and still is a success... so EQ in space can only mean that it'll be a hit. As I stated, SWG can still be a grind, but 16000 wombats is an overstatement and it is certainly better than trying to gain yet another level in EQ. SWG has so much more to offer when it comes to character development... and you don't have to make it a full time job in order to become SOMETHING.
As for the remark about gaining yet another item or skill - is EVE any different? ISK = items and skills, so you spend most of your time either mining, producing, trading, doing missions/killing pirates or stealing from other players so you can get even better at that.
Okay, I may not be killing 16000 wombats it EVE... instead I'll spend 20 hours staring at some asteroid in order to get enough ISK for a cruiser that I'll loose in 30 sec if I so happen to warp into a moo blockade. Ahem, yeah... right... I fail to see much difference, except that it won't take me 20 hours to regain what I've lost in SWG... and killing wombats is a little more interesting. Sorry, but my time is getting too precious for that :)
Bottomline is, when all comes to all, there's not much of a difference in what the overall goal is (ie. develop your character, get more stuff). It's what you're doing to get there that differs, and SWG somehow works better for me than EVE.
Oh, one more note. Regarding the space expansion - of course EVE will do it better. It's the MAIN focus in EVE, whereas it's just an expansion in SWG. Let's turn it around though - where's the EVE "land on and explore planets on foot" expansion? Ah, yes - I believe we were told that they would never do that :)

I heard good things about SWG, and some bad things... now I will sure try the game, if it good I'll stick with it, if not, then in the bin it goes.
There are 100's of online games coming out... plenty to pick, I mean if you really wanna make it good say: I'm waiting for World of Warcraft... now that's a game I wanna try:)

There are other ways to make a living besides mining. Look at M00. And if you don’t wanna be a pirate, kill pirates. Can’t handle the player pirates? Kill Npc pirates. Me and, above all, my more powerfull corpmates, made tons of isk killing npc-pirates in 0.0 space. Hell, even I made about a million isk / hour and I had to jump out to recharge my shields a hell of a lot more often than my buddies. Can’t even imagine how much cash they made. Of course, to get there you’ll probably need to do some mining but hey, nothing in life is free.

i'm going to try SWG since ive been waiting 2 years for it to come out. i'm not going to cancel my EVE account since i know SWG will be pretty buggy at first (like all MMORPGS are at first). something i noticed about ant mmrpg you mention...everyone says it sucks and dont play it, it wouldnt matter if i just made up a name for a game and posted it on here, someone would say "it sucks, dont play it",lol.
