Edited by: NEMO XAR on 17/10/2009 18:19:32 What is the point of even starting a mission of any kind if CCP won't lock your gate or mission from someone who is not in your fleet! Cosmos missions can't be done more then one time! So if some comes into my cosmos mission with CCP's blessing and steals my main Item and holds it for ransom because CCP won't lock the mission how is this fair and what is the point of even trying to do the missions if that is the case? That is game exploitation by CCP!

Its not fair
If you haven't noticed life isn't fair and neither is eve
By held it to ransom im guessing they contracted it back to you for a small fee which gives you the option to buy it back and finish the mission also most of these items can be found on the contract system
Why should ccp do anything to stop normal people playing well within the game rules can you answer that for me please.
ps. Its not a exploit its called risk VS reward

Actually you need to petition these kind of players for harassment to get things solved.
Yes, I know most won't believe it (or refuse to), but purposely taking mission critical items from other players is the only other known case of what classifies as player harassment besides baiting noobs in rookie systems. Some forum digging (you might have go quite a while back) will support your case.
Btw. get the petition escalated to a senior GM if you get an "automated" reply the first time. ---------------- Mr. Science & Trade Institute

I understand your annoyance. I was having trouble with a Minmatar COSMOS mission because of such pilots who spend their days making sure no one could get the needed item. They would then try to sell the item for 50 million isk. I returned with a mate and was able to manage then.

Ok, I bet we can line up the lines here a bit.
Everyone who is supporting CCP's lack of action on this is most likely a EU/TZ player, and everyone who does not support it is most likely an US/TZ player.
Lets see how close I come?

I had a COSMOS 'mission item' nabbed by some limp gate campers in low-sec (Ithakana irc) and I created a petition and thankfully CCP reset the mission so I could start the mission again again. Some of the low-sec missions are a pain in the rear (large item courier), but others (small item courier) are great with a shuttle and a little flipping the bird when they can't catch you. When it comes down to the crunch, the COSMOS area low-sec pirates are pretty low. I looked at one of the lowlifes and they had no solo kills that I could see, but was happy to give it the johnny big banana in local.
Surprisngly enough, when I offered a 1vs1 with my PvP character in a neutral area, he didn't take it up.

My problem is similar, except its with people who bookmark the mission complex in high sec, and then come in and steal the wreaks.
My problem is not with that exactly... its with the fact that when they steal and salvage the wreaks I cannot pod their asses for it. I don't even get a chance too, I'll get concorded/
I don't have a problem with them being able to steal, it wouldn't be EVE if they couldn't, but I have a hard time seeing a game that is based off freelancing allow people to steal without having a chance of getting shot at.
I'm crying that these thieves are being thieves, I'm crying cause I can't shoot them.
I say this is something that needs fixing. If they steal from a CAN and they get flagged, why the **** not a wreak?

Edited by: Nishachara on 19/10/2009 02:11:04 ..Lets say this for example... Imagine that in RL you must pick up a package in the post office for your boss... You go to the post office, they give you the package and you put it down just to sign the papers or something... ...you sign it ..and whooa..the package is gone... Maybe some punks that were in front of the building took it, maybe that old alcoholic in the corner...Anyway, who are you going to petition to whom ? Police? They will never find it anyway... So be happy that this occur to you in a GAME not in RL...Thats all ... Maybe not a perfect analogy..but youll get the picture... ... And btw..wrecks are the property of space they are in... until someone salvages them that is...

This argument annoys me. Why is the loot contained within the wreck "mine" then? I used my guns to blow up a ship. The things inside that ship magically transfer ownership to me after my display of manly dominance, but the wreck itself magically remains neutral, despite having my corp tag applied to it?
Bull Dookey, shut up. The argument is stupid and logically, ninja salvaging should flag you. It doesn't because CCP doesn't want it too. Fine, that's cool. Make that argument, because that one makes perfect sense.
Also, stealing mission objectives should also flag you. The mission was handed out to ME as a capsuleer, and I blew up all the ships that magically unlock the can. It's annoying anyone with a cloak can just sit on the can and take it, and you have no real recourse. No one is asking for the pirates to be handed to them on a silver platter, they just want to be allowed to fight back without the all-powerful God figure crushing them for trying to make money.
Yes, someone did just steal my mission objective for one of the epic arcs while I was at dinner, and yes i am butthurt over it. I didn't want to experience the new content anyways....

The argument is one in the same.
CCP does not want them flagged because they are not stealing. This is because...the wreck is not yours .
Hence the argument "its not stealing because the wreck is not yours" is perfectly valid.

Yeah, I'm all for whining more. The wreck is mine. It says so. Little tag next it says [XXXX] That means its mine. Not the loot inside. I've deduced this from the fact that empty wrecks are still tagged as MINE. Obviously this ownership tag cant only be claiming the loot inside, because there is no loot inside. The only thing that ownership tag is applied to is the empty wreck. Thusly we determine the wreck IS mine. At least, according to the rules the rest of the game works by.
We return to the argument that trying to justify things like "the wreck isn't yours," or "CONCORD doesnt consider salvage valuable" ******ed, and should continue restraining ourselves to the argument "Our Icelandic Overlords say so"
I think I'll go on...what you said there, that the arguments are one and the same is mildly silly. They're clearly different statements. An apple is not an orange, and a piece of blue paper is not a yellow bird. Its blue paper. See where I'm going with this? CCP says the wreck IS mine, but they still dont flag salvage thieves. Why not? Because CCP says so. Not because the wreck isn't mine. It is mine. Stop trying to justify it god damnit.

I don't keep the quotes on hand, but "our icelandic overlords" have stated that the wreck isn't yours.
Would you prefer it if when you killed something, a wreck was produced that didn't have a tag on it and a can with loot that does have a tag? Would that help you sleep at night?
Yes. I think CCP should waste their time on this. At least it would end horribad whines like yours.
On second thought, no it wouldn't. Then you'd cry for your wrecks to be tagged.
Oh well.

Edited by: Orthaen on 19/10/2009 03:23:48 Of course it isn't. And I'm not whining about ninja salvaging, so get your panties out of a twist. Also, no, CCP has never said the wreck is not mine. They have said that salvaging my wreck is not stealing. They have also said the wreck is mine, by way of the pretty little corp tag applied to it when I blew it up.
Per CCP Mitnal: Originally by: CCP Mitnal "Our policy on this is extremely clear... Salvaging is a mini-profession within EVE and does not constitute stealing."
Per GM Faolchu : Originally by: GM Faolchu Salvaging other peoples wrecks.... This is an intended game mechanic and is in no way an exploit. People salvaging your missions npcs or the player you just blew up are doing nothing wrong. The players are salvaging what is effectively floating rubbish in space and Concord places no value on this wreckage. Eve is a harsh place you won't always have everything go your way, its a do or die world and people do what they can to get along. If salvaging some wreckage gets them a few more ISK someone will do it, it doesn't matter who just blew it up.
Per Senior GM Ytterbium : Originally by: GM Ytterbium Players are still completely free to salvage other pilot wrecks at will ... and doing so is not considered as an exploit.
If you were wondering, that is CCPs stance on ninja salvaging. Nothing about how salvaging doesn't flag you because the wreck isn't owned. It is mine. Have I said that enough yet? That is their argument, the one forum trolls cling to; "Concord place no value on this wreckage" Absurdity! They place value on the modules inside that wreckage, even those those modules arent in my cargo hold yet. Why is the salvage any different? Again, not because the wreck isn't 'owned.' It is because CCP says so. Stop with the damn arguments. You know, we're on the same side. If everyone would just up and accept that I'm right, ninja salvage whines would disappear forever.

Per CCP Prism X : Originally by: CCP Prism X Why is stealing salvage OK? It's not. It shouldn't even be possible to move an item from your cargo-hold / hanger to another persons cargo-hold / hanger without opening a trade window. Before the salvage enters those containers it is not considered your stuff by the server code. Hence it's not stealing.

Yeah, I left that one out because its confusing, and doesnt even sort of contradict me. In fact, it agrees with me. The server code does not consider it my stuff. AKA: Because CCP says so. Logically, according to the rules and mechanics of the game, it SHOULD be considered my stuff. It just isn't, because they say so.

you know CCP writes the rules and programs the mechanics of the game right?
the mechanics are as follow:
i salvage your wreck. I am not flagged. I laugh at you when you whine.
CCP's policy is as follows:
Salvage is not yours. It has no value (as per Concord). Also, laughing at other players is okay.
Weird how the mechanics and CCP's policies are like...in tune with one another right? _____________________________________________

Logically, according to the rules of mechanics of the game, not even the loot should be considered your stuff. That's how it works with all other wrecks — you're just getting special permission because it's an NPC and because that loot is there to give you some kind of reward for the work you put into blowing that NPC up.
Salvage, on the other hand, is not that kind of reward. Salvage is the reward you get for moseying over to a wreck and activating a salvager. If you can't be arsed to do that in a reasonable amount of time, you didn't deserve the salvage, so it's not yours. ——— “If you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡… you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.” — Karath Piki |

rigs were too expensive.
funny but that's the real reason ninja's aren't flagged. there weren't enough salvagers working and rigs took far too many materials so teh supply of salvage was far to low.
and so taking salvage without the permission of the person that blew up the wreck does not flag you as a PvP target.
purely so there will be more salvage available for making rigs.

As long as they make a reasonable attempt at ransoming the loot back, it's not griefing. If they do not ransom the loot back, a GM can/should reset the mission for you (in some cases they may honestly not realize it is the mission loot). If they continue to target the same player and target him in all of his missions, it is.
This is pretty well established on the forums, I believe, though I can't be bothered to do the searches for you.
Oh, and I'm a US player and I support the lack of action, given the rules above. Just because I'm US doesn't mean I don't know how to follow the rules.
