I regularly run L4 missions at hi sec quest hubs. I like to come back and loot/salvage in a Salvacane.
It seems that the ninjas are finding me before I finish missions. I will come back to the first room and find them near done with it.
I am planning on moving up to a Tengu mission runner. Is this going to make it much harder to probe me so that I won't see most of my mission salvage go to someone else?

It's really simple, just go someplace off the beaten trail rather than the most popular system in a region. If you're missioning in a system that is heavily populated, well, Ninjas can see that and that's where you'll find us making our ISK. There are many other options rather than the old "I'll just clean these rooms out and then go backą". You're just making it too easy. Salvage as you go, mission with a corp-mate, get a Marauder, etc. Another option, and one that's the path of least resistance, simply ignore us and try to grind out more missions. Seriously, if I were in to mission running, I wouldn't even bother salvaging the crap missions (Gurista, Drones, and Mission Generics). Just grab the loot from the Large ships, get it over with and move on. Time is money. BTW, the mission salvage isn't yours. It's whoever gets to it first and that makes for a fun, competitive dynamic pitting you against those pesky dudes with their probes and scan ships. I've seen enough MRs toying with the bad guys to realize that in most cases, the bigger challenge is avoiding those dudes in the cheap frigates zipping around than the actual NPCs, who you're so tanked up against that they hardly get into your shields.

I hate it when they don't use paragraphs.
Major tip numbnuts: Don't do missions in missionhubs. Try a different spot. You don't have to use a L4-Q:20 agent per se, you can also try a L4-Q:15 that's a few clicks away, in a very, vTry quiet system.

Does anyone know the answer to the question? If he uses a T3, will it be harder for the Ninjas to loot the wrecks of ships he killed?

Gratuitous use of apostrophes: Minus 10 points.
Also, please don't suicide my unrigged, T1 salvage frigate with multiple battleships. I wouldn't use the salvage from exactly one wreck to offset the cost, nor would I get great amounts of pleasure from seeing you throw away a thousand times as much ISK as I had lost just to waste 5 minutes of my time. Anything but that.
Keep coming up with ideas though, you'll show those durned ninjas a thang or two eventually.

Yes, you can reduce the chance of being probed if you're using a T3. Just a matter or raising your sensor strength and keeping your sig radius low. The ratio of those two determines how fast someone can scan you down. There are some 'unprobable' fittings floating around on Battleclinic and elsewhere.

I love it when a ninja enters my room. I let the idiot get close to a wreck then I destroy it. Its quite amusing to watch the tard go way out of his way only to have it destroyed over and over. Yeah I know I don't to salvage the wreck but he doesn't either. I've tasted so many ninja tears doing this, and it never gets old!

I think there are enough large BS's stacked on top of each other in mission hubs that salvagers don't have to waste that extra scan time locking down a cruiser size ship. But, that being said what's going to stop him from scanning down your Tengu when you're in system just to make you cry into your cheerios.
Also, why do you call them Ninjas? If they were, all you would see was the wreck suddenly turning into a can. They're just pilots that happen to be salvaging. So what.

I wouldnt bother with sensor boosters. It screws up your mission efficiency and T3 ships are hard to find as it is (for the avarage ninja).
Concerning Ninja's, i dont care if someone drops into my mission. (last time it was just before aggro started from the whole assault room, it was kinda fun warping out at just that moment :)). On the other hand, there seems to be a trend of ninja's stealing and can-flipping also.

1. Avoid mission hubs. 2. Don't fly a BS — they're very easy to scan down. 3. Definitely don't fly a Marauder — they're hillariously easy to scan down, and you're just screaming "mission runner". 4. Salvage as you go.
You don't particularly need a T3 ship to avoid getting scanned — just something that's smaller/stronger than a battleship, and the ninjas are more likely to go after those 100% hits they get on the first try than wasting time finding your 30% hit. ——— “If you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡… you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.” — Karath Piki |

Do some research, look for other lvl 4 agents in quieter systems. You might be forced to do the occasional courier/delivery if your agent division type changes but its worth it for a bit of peace and quiet.
Maurader is also a decent enough option, you can salvage as you go and its pretty quick to clear the whole mission but skill intensive and expensive ship.

Edited by: Maddock Krug on 24/10/2009 12:55:58 Hi. About your main question:
Raven - Signature Radius 460m and Scan Resolution 85mm Golem - Signature Radius 575 and Scan Resolution 73mm Tengu - no numbers available; but if the values of the Legion give an orientation about it => 1/3 of the Raven's Signature Radius and thrice the Scan Resolution of the Raven's; and I think it is quite unlikely that even the worst Tengu setup gets anywhere the the Raven or a BS's values about that. (I took the data from the official EvE Online item database ...)
Bottomline: The Tengu makes you a very unlikely prey for mission salvagers, as you won't be scanned down so easily - for now. ;)
Also try Episode #5 of the Missions Collide podcast; on this show the moderators deal with this topic and give a couple of more guesses about how to deal with "us" evil ninja salvagers. ^^
Enjoy! Mad

I've not had a ninja turn up once. Ironically I can't be bothered to loot or salvage some of the time so it would not bother me if they did turn up. Just stop going to the obvious places and picking the obvious corps, there are good agents outside those hubs.

Who cares if it's easy to scan down? Marauders loot and salvage as they go, so you're still not getting anything.
Can't say if it's luck or the morons over in TEARS are just incompetent, but I've been doing missions out of Aunia (2 jumps from Dodixie) for months and not once had any loot stolen or lost any salvage opportunities. It's actually a little depressing, even taunting them in Local doesn't get me anywhere, I'd love some actual competition.

I, for one, can scan T1 small drones pretty easily without wasting much time. A bell rings when i see a smaller scan strenght than usual Bs or Marauders. Switching to a Tengu will only make you a brighter prey, since there aren't many of them running around doing missions (unlike bses and marauders).
You should just change the place where you run missions, a smaller ship won't help you at all :P ________________________________________ i'd gladly abuse [hr] if CCP implemented it ________________________________________

Marauders are -decent- against ninjas. Ninjas looking for profit will tend to ignore you, as will newer ninjas. However, more experienced ninjas love to fly into your mission, orbit you and snag loot/salvage out of the wrecks.
Tengu would help, especially if you could run ECCM or use a sig reduction/sensor strength boosting subsystem.

Battleships are the only thing in my ninja filter. I know there are marauders and BCs doing plenty of L4s too, but I'd have to compete with marauders for the good salvage, and the BCs simply don't kill fast enough.
To the OP, you have a few options: 1) A T3 will probably result in less ninjas since a ninja will probe out bigger ships easier.
2) If you don't want to be ninja'ed, get out of a mission hub. That is where all the ninjas are.
3) Don't get so worked up about it. I missioned in motsu for a months, and during that time I only got ninja'ed 3 or 4 times.

Haha sure buddy, keep running missions until an experienced ninja finds you. You pop wrecks, you waste ammo. When people pop wrecks on me, I get their hull id and ship type. Let's just say that they don't make any more on salvage while I'm online.
Make sure it's in a CNR, those are good against ninjas, and faction mods are sure to show us.

To the OP.
Good suggestions have been made. Practice those. Aside from that, ignore the "don't use BS" comments. Whether you're in a marauder, BS, BC, cruiser, frigate or just left your drones behind while you rep, your mission site is easily identified.
