If you: - Are familiar with MKV files - Have a quad core / top end dual cpu - Want the highest quality version Then get the MKV Version (944Mb) RK (Uori) Mirror: Here (Right-clock the mkv and choose 'Save Target As' or 'Save Link As' and watch from your hard drive) EVE-FILES Link: Here Notes about MKV: This is the best quality version. VLC player is more stressful than Media Classic. Unless you have a ninja PC, I recommend view on Media Player classic. You may need the CCCP Community Codec (CCCP) Overview: This is a gameplay video showing how unorthodox tactics evolve as capital combat scales up in New Eden. It is the sequel to Clarion Call - Triage Special though doesn't require you to have seen that video. Triage is involved, though much of the time is taken up the namesake of the video, Pantheon. Above all, at a time when many companies seem hellbent on destroying PC gaming (read: IW and dedicated servers), this is a video about proper emergent sandbox gameplay (and drunk/drugged people being handed Biggles goggles and forced into a complicated plan). Narration: Once more the lovely Princess Aricia provides the narration track. Music: I'll leave that as a little surprise. At appropriate times you'll also have positional battle sound and my best solution to the cyno storm problem, so subwoofers to eleven. Tech Stuff: As before, all fights are recorded with full effects, turrets, drones, HDR and so on. This sometimes makes for a very hectic image, and as a result file sizes/bit rates have to be high to bring it all to your screen. ------------------------------ Rooks and Kings Blog

When using WMP on the MKV version I found the sound ran ahead of the video. Try VLC player or BS Player for better results. There should only be two places where the back ground sound hides narration, 1st is the last words of Jack calling secondary for the last time (around 4 mins in)and 2nd are PA's words at the very end. Both were intentional.

For reasons noted in the main post, VLC is probably not a good idea unless you have a top end ninja cpu, since the awesomeness of VLC makes it very 'heavy' in that it's less dependent on external stuff than other players. If you have sound stuttering on mkv or anything like that, do the opposite - go for a lighter player, such as Windows Media Player Classic with CCCP codec (or get the wmv). ------------------------------ Rooks and Kings Blog

I really doubt that, the high commands of the major alliances are really happy if in a single fleet every pilot had the correct fitting and/or every pilot would shoot the correct primary. The bigger the fleet the harder these most simples of tasks become, not to talk about getting a large sized fleet use advanced tactics.

The machine (at the time of recording, which was during the late summer) was a Nehalem based system with two 4870x2 in Crossfire X (4 gpus). However, Eve doesn't make full use of multi-gpu setups so I wouldn't consider that especially crucial. Somewhere in a tech forum, a dedicated soul has a made a list of supported Crossfire modes for Eve though I don't have the link at this moment. Regardless, it certainly won't be using Crossfire-X, even if some Crossfire modes partially work. Cooling is chilled water though again not particularly important. My main recommendation, as it has been for some years now, would be a top quality SSD drive for the Eve client and a normal (1tb upwards) SATA for the Fraps. Even with Eve's resource caching on, the speed of an SSD still helps in getting assets fast when you load grid for the first time in a cap fight. What you can by in the private sector is not the real deal but it's still an extreme improvement over traditional HDD's and very well suited for game usage. SSD is here to stay and its going to be widely adopted so I expect a healthy price drop over the next couple of years. I find Premiere & After Effects very usuable. I have no prior experience to using them outside making Eve videos, so you can pick it up pretty quickly. Thanks in advance Johndalar Well that's the problem, although it has a nice bonus it has less armour and less cap. So a triage Archon, for example, would be able to fit 3 capital RR (as you see in the video) whereas the the Nid could only support two flat out, even with a Damnation/Legion giving bonus. Mind you, in the example mentioned earlier, a Nid with 5% grid implant for five reps would technically be highest repping Pantheon carrier on the field and then some slaves to help armour and you start to cover the bases, assuming you can keep on top of the cap situation. But you'd still be hard pushed to pick it over the cap-monster Archon with resist bonus for this kind of thing and when the tank's holding, the damage bonus of the Thanatos is nice. Ultimately, it's a carrier with probably the second best bonus but cap/hp/grid limitations mean you have to work harder to get as much out of it (often involving implants, isk, etc.). Given the Minmatar forte in speed, sniping, etc. though, maybe that's as intended. If we're talking about triage as opposed to Pantheon, then there is a build out there which can self-rep 20k(ish) dps via a mid-meta-level faction shield tank (which would catch up the Archon's local, if not remote, tank, albeit with less EHP & neut resistance). Problem is that the cost involved in that would prevent you using it for low-intel jump & rescue missions, aggressive ops to kill more than you lose, and all those kinds of things, so it goes back to the point of having to work harder to get as much out of it. ------------------------------ Rooks and Kings Blog

The fights here are taken from a summer campaign which had about twenty cap fights (described in the blog/battle reports/forum), which probably means you're right in a sense that it was constantly violent for a month or two - though these things sort of escalate when one looks for trouble, and simmer down later. I could probably make about a half-dozen Pantheon videos to the same standard using existing footage (I started this with 700gb of fraps) though they would essentially be showing the same thing and thus the same narrative, just against different fleets or on different moons. Triage stuff I have even more of. But again, people rightly want to see something different after very generously indulging so much of their bandwidth. But the third requirement can be more tricky - the viewer needs to be able to follow what's going on to enjoy it. Whereas Triage gives you a central focal point, Pantheon is more decentralised and so footage needs to be very clear to show the story of the fight. In the longest fight on the video, I had to remember to fly the ship and FC but also the camera needs to be focussed on the centre of the battle and to look at the action points as they happen (Cynos, capital placement, new things jumping/warping in, friendlies being primed, smartbombing, etc.). In some ways that can be tricky - however, I don't think it's necessarily detrimental. There is a lot of information to be gleaned whilst tracking the aesthetic stuff. You can see who is neuting, you can see which way drone and fighters swarms are headed, who is smartbombing, who is in triage, who is siege and a million otherthings. So running a fight that follows these things is not necessarily at odds with recording it. Maybe in the future it would be, if aesthetic effects become divorced from any in-game purpose, e.g.overbright HDR 'glare' in FPS games which you certainly wouldn't want in a ladder match Once that's taken into account it reduces the number of usable recordings, though even then I could still make several vids like this from existing footage, not to mention upcoming stuff. That might go into some archive for internal use. But a third chapter would aim to mix things up again. It's like Hannibal says when he's feeding morsels of fried brain to the unsuspecting kid on the plane: it's always important to try new things. ------------------------------ Rooks and Kings Blog

After you've made a few vids, the a,b,c you describe is the holy grail of a decent big gang video. Even when you get a and b, you may be lagged out so you have to fully zoom out and have no brackets, so it looks like rubbish. I'm in the same boat atm, I have a ton of fraps, but hard to make an entertaining timeline out of it. I'm a big fan of both Clarion Call vids, the effort you put into it is appreciated, and makes them worth watching many times over. Hope you keep the standard up for the next one. As impressive as your videos are, your personal, corporate or alliance finacial structure must be even more impressive. Lately Alazais has been losing carriers on a bi-weekly basis. I would LOVE to know how you can afford to do that! I really do not mean any of this as a 'troll', clearly you're doing some things right!

Keep in mind that I'm in a fight with it pretty much every other day (it doesn't aggro, so only on kb if I die). Also, remember that sometimes it may die in a winning cause and the capital k/d ratio is extreme enough that there's an endless supply of cap mods for it, to rebuild it with. In terms of how those six were lost, interestingly the main danger seems to be the times one jumps to assist blues without ganglinks for bonuses, specialised fleet roles, etc. to try and keep them up and escalate a fight while scrambling alliance pilots to log in. I guess if I stated losing too many I'd probably do less of that and stick to focussed ops. But it's a lot of fun when it works, to get a phone call in the middle of the night and jump blind and help: it's a thrill and a sort of karma partner for the merticulously planned stuff. A triage pilot does need to know that the role of his ship is such that he could blow up even in a winning cause - although in terms of capital k/d the triage Archon has an incredible survival rate, if you attend to all the details. Of course, the issue of having a triage dread blobbed is part of the narrative of the video: that's where Pantheon comes in. So that you know what you get is authentic, I should point out that the footage comes from a summer campaign of a dozen or more capital fights, mostly heavily outnumbered and the only (necessary) capital casuality using these tactics is included on the video. As for Pantheon, to date of post, we've not lost a Pantheon fleet at all yet, though recent capital changes (including titan super weapons) present new hazards for unwanted exploding. Often carrier losses are the result of a concious exit strategy to minimize cost - so using them as a measure of loss can be a bit deceptive. An insured triage is certainly cheaper than 10-15 properly fit battleships... ;)
