If you weren't afraid of risking things you would be in 0.0 or low-sec. Nuff said. Prove me wrong? Just try and defend the stance that you're in high sec because it's a more challenging game. You do it because you can make loads of money without putting yourself in harms way. And you know it. Why can't you just admit it like at least a few of the people above you with some self-respect have.

Hi..I'm Zedrik Cayne. And I find stupid people (Well, more often than not, they find me..Don't ask me how..it happens). The main reason I don't go out to 0.0 or low-sec, is that the concentration of stupid people is relatively low out there. In lowsec they get blown up by the local pirate populace who usually aren't stupid. In 0.0 they are plenty of roaming gangs who aren't stupid and make life insufferably hard for people who find stupid people.
I also do not have huge swaths of time (uninterrupted time) to devote to the game..so while I may be logged in, I am not always at the keyboard. I don't make much isk finding stupid people. Its enough to get by on most of the time.
While I am not proof of being afraid to risk stuff... I am an example of someone who isn't afraid, yet still hangs out in highsec (mostly, to be frank, to replace my losses when I do lose stuff). --

What's best about this thread is that despite the OP's intentions to spread awareness regarding his proposed looting solutions, the end result is that people will read this thread and desire to cause the types of feelings that drove OP to post such drivel. An example of this can be seen in the multitude of new subscribers to the game who state that they were driven to subscribe by stories of corp infiltration (gh-sc heist comes to mind), brilliant scams, and the overall openness of opportunities to be a complete scumbag. Clearly OP does not understand the game he claims to play!

I'm not sure how to remedy the situation, but I feel like the best way to do it would be to change up missions.
FFS - Best way to do it is:
A) Don't mission in Hubs, B) Don't pull the trigger!
I mission, sometimes a lot. I have never been ninja'd, or baited or "HARASSED INTO SHOOTING". I mean srsly! If you dont' pull the trigger:

I have encountered a bunch of highsec piwates while mining/hauling/missioning in highsec. Most of them are experienced pilots who know what they are doing, so beware about the following things.
- When getting flipped/ninja'd, check the ship and more important the pilot who's flying it. If he's an 2003-2007/8 player, he will have decent fighting skills. Also check sec status for a better idea who you are facing.
- He will most likely fly a T1 frig or cruiser, but beware, he will be loaded with T2 fits. The T1 ship is to trick you into shooting them, since you will see it as easy picking especially if you have a bigger ship nearby. If you're not T2 fitted, don't bother engaging.
- Don't use or leave cans full. Use a 2nd account to haul while mining, salvage, etc. If needed to transfer items between characters, drop a bookmark in the can, & take the items out of the can to the other character asap.
- Check his corp. Then check local to see if any of his corp mates are in the system. Cause if you will aggro the guy in a bigger ship, mr. pirate can have 3-4 corp mates jump in and rr him. In most cases, a gang like that can easily keep your target alive while he pops you. If you got a corp as backup, make sure your corp is organized too, cause those gangs are efficient. And well, if his corp mates are waiting in the adjecent systems, you won't see them, then you sir, are screwed. =)
- If you don't leave any valuables in can, you got no real reason to pop him. Just let him wait around till he buggers off. Some cases even go afkish, giving you the oppertunity to move your miner 4km further, and keep happily mining. It can take him a minute or 5-10 to realise that your can is out of reach.
- Don't QQ, whine, cry about this. Welcome to Eve, get used to any forms of pirating. I gave you a list of things that can avoid you being blown up, so blame yourself when you get popped, cause it means the other guy is better at what you do. Suck it up.

Dude. Seriously. Although I'm an avid mission runner and can flippers REALLY **** me off, I have to say your rather epic series of posts and the corresponding replies on this is complete overkill. It is what many people have said: Adapt or die.
I have played over a thousand video games in my life (and I'm not that old either) and I have never encountered anything with the amount of elaborate complexity or potential difficulty as Eve. This is exactly what the game is for: a true challenge for die-hard gamers, and although I have suffered some expensive losses from "hisec pirates" as you call them, it forced me to adapt, and become a better player. I learned, very quickly, the specific mechanics that allowed can flippers to do what they do, and piece by piece I became stronger. Now, I have far stronger skills and a corporation of powerful friends that will make anyone who can flips me seriously regret it unless they are very careful.
This is Eve, and players have to learn for themselves of this risk. And I'm surprised that no-one posted the rather simple solution to can flippers:
If you're in the middle of the mission firing at NPCs and a can flipper does his thing, just warp out to a station. Since your ship is no longer there, the NPCs attack the flipper, and since the flipper is most likely equipped for PvP his ship will most likely be rather terrible for PvE. He also will not want to have the tables turned on him if you immediately warp back in and attack so he has to deal with both you AND the NPCs, so he will want to get out of there very damn fast. Or, even if he is strong enough to take on the NPCs or can call nearby corpmates in to help him, that would mean that he would have to do the regular mission grind and from what I can tell, can flippers HATE to do that (any hisec pirates who read this feel free to agree/disagree/flame/whatever).
There are thousands upon thousands of video games in existence that do not involve interaction with other human players. Anyone who starts playing an MMORPG, especially one as difficult as Eve, has to be aware of the possible risks. And as a player who is succesffully adapting to the risks of Eve (no one can ever claim to be fully adapted to it), I say this:
1) To players who complain about being can-flipped and then destroyed because they didn't think before they shot: **** off. You aren't worthy to play Eve.
2) To players that equate Eve to real life (this includes you OP): Turn off your computer, go out, get laid. Seriously. I mean it.
3) To OP: Let players learn the risks for themselves. If they don't like it and keep making the same mistakes, they can always quit and find a game more suitable for their skill level (or lack thereof). So SHUT UP!

Picking out a couple of things, OP.
Quote: Eve is all about risk vs reward.
For some, maybe. How about choice vs consequence? Y'know, the very thing that certain RPG forums get so incensed about. :decline:
Eve, for me at least, is precisely about choices and consequence. When I first started to get into EVE mining more seriously, a pair of fine fellows decided to ruin my character's day by ganking her humble retriever in 0.5 space. Concorde paid them a visit, almost instantaneously. Who won out? They did, certainly. They chose to ruin my character's day, and paid the (almost non-existent) price -a destroyer or whatever it was. Was my character mad at them? No, because they did her a massive favour -- pay bloody attention, even (especially) if you're mining or missioning. Bone up on who is in your vicinity et cetera et cetera.
I should have thanked them for teaching a sound lesson, but didn't, which was a shame. Both they and both I chose a flavour of x, and the consequences, y, were of benefit to both parties, I would argue.
Quote: So then Eve really isn't a sandbox is it?
It surely is. Okay, apples and pears, but go look at the single player PC market, or even better, the console one. The days of Planescape: Torment, Vampire Bloodlines Masquerade, (insert Black Isle/Troika game here) are gone. Not to labour the 'Choice and consequence' motif, but it takes a back seat, nowadays. That's really bad mojo, for some. :fatbeard:
EVE actually injects C&C directly into your spinal chord, for which you and I should both be very grateful. And, further, you might consider discretely thanking those whom you are aggrieved by; their past choices might well make your character's own future choices better implemented, less risky and productive --the consequences more positive for you.
(Edited to add:) Casual observation: By insulting some of the above posters, whom, in their own way, are trying to help you, isn't perhaps the best way to live 'n' learn, aye?

tl;dr: want more people to flip my can.
I'm a noob. Been playing for maybe 3 months or so, tried mining (even joined a mining corp), tried missioning. Boring. Tried lowsec, not boring, but I don't have much faith in my Incursus to take on Inties, HACs and the like -- especially because I got my own private NRDS going (sandbox, remember). But then there was corp chat, and lots of people complaining about can flippers. So I invested a handfull of isks into a crappy mining cruiser, set out to top belt and mined away for a while. Punisher came, stole my precious Veldspar. Looked at me funny when I neuted, scrambled and webbed him (you know the saying: never pluck your miner into a roid without protection!) and blew him up.
In terms of isks or kills it isn't worthwile of course, but to me it's great to learn the basics of PvP -- it's risk-free, I get to know which targets I can handle (rifters are tricky, vexors even more so) and what buttons to press at what times, and most of all it teaches patience.
The only problem is that there's so precious few can flippers around. (posted with alt for obvious reasons)

Hello, I'm Marko Riva and I'm a high sec pirate. Should I;
a) delete my character because of the utter failure I am for not being in 0.0, because being told what to do and having to deal with idiots is a good thing b) have myself checked by a psychologist because I must have some mental disorders, possibly from being bullied too much in my early years c) remove the 'pirate' part because I'm not -10 and therefore not a true pirate d) remove the training wheels called high sec e) enjoy my freedom of movement and being able to idle when I want to, especially as I have no expensive assets that can be attacked f) get rich off of high sec idiots who fly way too expensive ships while not knowing how to use them
Please pick 2 of the above, thank you.
