What?! High Sec pirates?! Yes. They exist, they are the s****of the earth. They revel in their ability to make people who want to enjoy this game in their own way unhappy. And they love to do it because it's "within the rules." It makes me sick. It's the same mentality that 8 year olds have on the playground when they do stupid ****. Grow the **** up.
For those of you who don't know how it's done, let me tell you: You fly around and ninja mission runner's loot. This flags you as agressed to them, but concord doesn't come. You now have the right to shoot them. You then shoot them, now they have the right to shoot you. They were just ninja'ing your loot in a frigate or something else that's stupid and annoying. They come back in a much larger ship and kill you. Then they take your things. High Sec Piracy. To think, they actually enjoy it?
Proposed Solution: It's really quite simple, in fact I based it on real life! If someone comes into my house and steals//tries to steal my **** I can shoot them (or something like that, it's self defense blah blah blah). However, once I shoot them, they don't have the right to shoot me. They were stealing my ****, how does me shooting them give them the right to shoot me? Police come, shoot the ***** who shot at me while stealing my TV. I loot their ****.
Super simple fix. Fair fix. If you want to agress someone without a security penalty, do it in low-sec and you're fine. The people out there are out there for a reason.
I can even write the (rough) code for you now if you want.
robber thread!:
if stealing: mark stealer as stealing from PERSON
if shot at by PERSON: if marked as stealing from PERSON: nope, you don't get them as agressed towards you
See how easy that was? And the best part is, all that information is logged already! The server knows when you steal because that's how it tells you that someone is agressed to you. The server already tracks who owns what because it has handy little tickers next to the cans and wrecks, in fact there's the warning thing in the top!
If this doesn't work there should at least be a way that you should be able to call the police, like in real life.
Disclaimer: I don't run missions. I think missions are boring as **** and when I do run missions (because it's suggested) I want to kill myself it's so bad. However, it might be hard to imagine, but there exist people in this game who enjoy it for missioning (I have no idea how that is the case but they do) and don't have the time to invest in a large corp of people to protect their **** while they mission.
To all the people who do this: The majority of EvE players live in empire. It's probably somewhat safe to assume that a lot of eve players like to mission alone. Why do you insist on trying to erode away the player base that funds the game that you enjoy to play (however sick and twisted your enjoyment of it is)? What of this underhanded and pathetic technique do you enjoy? Is it the rants from people like this? It's definitely not the adrenaline rush of real PvP, you never risk anything. It's not a challenge, all you're doing is ruining someone's day. I'm proposing this idea because while EvE is a sandbox game, I refuse to believe that the factions of New Eden would allow their carefully structured empires to devolve into an orgy of sociopaths, because that's what it's becoming.

That's if you need a link.
I was going to post this in F&I, hopefully Devs will cross link it so I don't have to repost it but I will if need be.
There's a distinct difference between playing within the rules and abusing the rules.

Anyway, I felt I should add also that I have no problem with people flying around and stealing **** and ninja salvaging. When you do that, you are being true to what you intend to do. But if you get killed in the process it's your own damn fault for your lawless ways. It just ****es me off to see people abuse mechanics to take advantage of people.

Actually, we love to do it because of reactions and posts just like this.
Quote: It's the same mentality that 8 year olds have on the playground when they do stupid ****. Grow the **** up.
Irony.
Quote: I refuse to believe that the factions of New Eden would allow their carefully structured empires to devolve into an orgy of sociopaths, because that's what it's becoming.
CCP has indicated that they deliberately designed the game to be more dangerous and chaotic (I'm paraphrasing) and that they like it that way. Did you watch some of their more recent Dominion-related developer interviews? They are introducing two new beginner career paths (like the current 3: business, industry and military), one of which is deliberately designed to blow up your precious ship. They want you to get used to the idea that undocking is never safe. I doubt that will ever change.
Also, free advice: if you suspect a trap, don't go for the bait. It's fairly simple.

Uhm... I'm new and all... but why did you shoot them? them being red means you can shoot them cause they wronged you. NOT that you SHOULD shoot them. They have a bigger ship, but they can't use it if you don't make yourself a fair target. If they do decide to shoot you they lose their ship, and potentially lose another if you ever see them when they're in a weaker position, even in highsec. Killrights? or whatever its called.

OP seriously you make me laugh. Living in 0.0 i dont do missioning or this Ninja stuff (though it does pique my interest whenever someone like you posts, so i may give it a try sometime soon).
But just incase you didnt know, there already is code within the game that will make it so that Ninja's cannot shoot at you, and the code is something like this (the part in bold is important for you).
robber thread!:
if stealing: mark stealer as stealing from PERSON
if shot at by PERSON: if marked as stealing from PERSON: yep, you get them as agressed towards you if NOT shot at by PERSON: nope they cant shoot you

OP, you are suggesting one of the fundamental rules of EVE to be changed, that being "the right to defend yourself is absolute". By opening fire on a loot thief, YOU are the one initiating a hostile act, they, regardless of other factors, are entitled to defend themselves from you.
Considering that before taking from someone's can did not cause aggression flagging and it was changed to appease those who whined about it, those that make a living from taking other people's loot have adapted.
Your options are really down to this: 1. Ignore the loot thief- seriously, it's mission loot, is it REALLY worth losing your ship over it? 2. Shoot the thief, and be prepared for the consequences. 3. Don't mission in a crowded area which means less chance of someone crashing your party. 4. Don't mission, I don't know, go mine or something, exploration sites offer decent isk too.

Edited by: PureUncut on 03/11/2009 11:27:17 Picture the scene:
I'm walking along the road minding my own bussiness when all of a sudden out of the corner of my eye I spot a shiny penny on the ground. 'Oh' I say to myself 'This incredibly meagre amount of change may slightly ease my current money worries' I pick up the change and continue to walk.
Seconds later some crazed office worker is foaming at the mouth and trying to beat me over the head with a brick. He is ranting about me stealing his penny he worked so long for but left lying about on the road to pick up later, I pick up the nearest piece of masonry (preferably a slightly larger brick) and defend myself by rendering him unconcious using appropriate force. Legal self defence under the laws of many countries.
Now comparing eve to real life as the original poster has done is quite frankly moronic. But I'm a hypocrite and don't mind being one if it proves my point.

Hi-sec piracy is a pretty dull way to play this game.
Its akin to being 19 and still living at home, the transition period where you really should be finding a place of your own but you still like the safety and security of living with your parents.
Of course the "Carebears" will have the last word because sooner or later all "High-sec pirates" discover true piracy and look back on there abuse of "Carebears" and there harvesting of "Tears" as a waste of time.
Besides "High-sec piracy". The reason 90 percent of peope do this is "Because of Carebear tears" I mean come on you have to wonder about people who find non-existant rewards more satisfying than real rewards you can show your friends.
And when you pay to play it too...
"Hey what did you do with your subscription?" "Oh hi yeah i killed some new guys and harvested there tears!" "Urrrm call the men in white coats!" "Hey what did you do with your subsrciption?" "I bought a shiny spaceship which im gonna use to play with my friends" "Cool, have fun" |

I think the OP misses something important. Highsec piracy is the best earner of all....
Last thursday, i made 500 mil in 1 hour.
The previous month, i earnt 5 bil by probing/stealing an hour each sunday.
Thanks to the people who i killed, im now still sitting on 200 mil...But i have a lovely golem, and full HG crystal set. So now they die even more successfully.
Why is highsec piracy bad again?

Not that I care about numbers or titles or anything but the fact that most of the time this high sec 'piracy' is much more profitable (and done because of that) I'd pretty much say that it IS piracy.
What you're saying is "those Somali pirates aren't pirates at ALL, lets see them do it near the US coast where the coastguard and navy would mess them up real good giving them a real fight, THEN it would be piracy".
Piracy is for profit and pirates go where the profit is, if I want cool fights or pop pods I'll go elsewhere. ----------- ADM-I |
