Bring her along. There is a serious rise in the amount of spouses who attend through the Sisters of EVE program.

I can confirm this. Back in 2008 I literally spent weeks convincing my wife that it would be a good idea to come to Fanfest, but the Sisters of EVE program has completely won her over.

But noooo! People wanted to sit in a decrepit garbage compactors being entertained by the sparks flying off loose wiring and smelling burning duct tape all day. We're all going to get lead poisoning from the lousy excuse of a mug we'll be handed and will have to haul our own loot around in whatever container we can scavenge from the trash bins. Now I have to go check up on my tetanus shots!

not sure me and the missus will attend next years fanfest unless 2 conditions are met . 1 ccp devs attend ALL the round tables as they didnt last fanfest (not suggesting a ccp employee who works in hr should attend a faction warfare round table as this would be stupid )

2 I want a clear and transparent explanation as to how ccp are takeing the game forward . i dont want to come away from what is a very expensive weekend away for myself and my wife full of hope for the future of the game i love and for the most part is my main hobby . only to get home to find her himler is advocating us all spending xxxx thousands on japanese jeans and wotnot .

I think I'm going to try and go for a few more days this time. I went on the golden circle tour and all that, and we hired a car. But we didn't really get the chance to do much driving around. It'll be different this time though - I fancy driving the full way around Iceland, maybe spending a night or two on the east.

I am sure there will be some other Americans who can pop in and give you some more advice but the best thing you can look at doing now is booking early as flight prices are cheaper the earlier you book them. You can check out Icelandair and Iceland Express to see which is cheaper from your nearest domestic airport.

Accommodation can take up quite a bit of your budget but there are quite a few low cost hotels which are popular with EVE players and you should check out the Hotel Cabin for early low rates.

The price of alcohol will vary from bar to bar but you can pick up duty free beer and spirits when you arrive in Iceland to subsidize that expense. In a bar a beer will range from 500 ISK up to around 800 ISK.

There really is nothing quite like your first Fanfest. CCP Tyr has been making the event bigger and better with every year so this one is going to be the best so far

Wish I could attend but it's simply too expensive for me. South Africa is not known for (a) strong monetary unit and (b) cheap air flights. Fail on both counts

Akureyri is 5-6 hours drive away from Reykjav+¡k (each way), depending on how insane your driver is. Probably closer to 7 if you are going by bus. It's not really feasible as a Fanfest event.

That said, Akureyri is a awesome and beautiful town and a great place to visit.

As for night bars, every bar in Iceland is a night bar.

We capsuleers are pretty easy to spot on the airports
Yet when boarding started, I was still missing some FC yelling "OK, everyone align to gate ..." - then again, this one might be old already.

If you want to save some expenses you guys can always try http://www.couchsurfing.org/ which is a nice way to travel the world. If you promise to not puke in their bathroom and come home screaming and yelling at 5am then many people might be up for hosting EVE nerds. I sure will do so again
