Since my previous influence map thread has been locked due to inactivity, let's start anew.
----
With the launch of Dominion next week, there will be some changes to how sovereignty works internally, and how this is related to the outside world. Key among these are that sovereignty levels as we know them are going away, as is the concept of constellation sovereignty.
In place of those mechanics will be 3 development indexes for each system, rated from 0-5. The indexes are the Strategic Index (the amount of time you've held the system; virtually identical to current sov levels), the Military Index (how many NPCs you've killed), and the Industry Index (how much ore you've mined). The plan for the influence map for Dominion is to take advantage of all of these indexes to determine the amount of influence a system generates, in place of sovereignty levels and constellation sovereignty.
However there is a catch: For the time being these levels are not available via the API. CCP does not yet know when this will change. Thankfully, Wollari of Dotlan has offered his services, as his historical sovereignty database can be used to calculate the Strategic Index.
What this means is that when Dominion goes live, the map is going to be using a temporary set of influence calculations based upon only the Strategic Index and the presence of stations.
To give you an idea of what this will look like, here's an example of the new influence calculations used against the data from the 26th, with the Strategic Index extrapolated from Wollari's data.
Influence Map: Dominion Edition (WIP)
Influence Map: Current Edition
I'd like to remind everyone that this is a work in progress, so I will likely change some of this before Dominion launches. Based on the current formula, influence is slightly stronger overall due to all of the systems in the game which are SI5. It's likely that this won't be the case when Dominion goes live, as alliances trim down on systems they needlessly have sov in.
Besides higher sov levels, the other big change is that it's now possible to have sovereignty alongside a Strategic Index value of 0. These systems are included in the calculation, but at a lower influence level since they can quite literally be just minutes old.
Finally, the inverted triangle will probably be going away. Previously it was used to indicate constellation capitals, but since those are gone, there's no concept of a "special" system. In this WIP map, they're in to ID SI5 station systems, but as you can see, SI5 station systems are very common.
The full point system, for those of you curious:
Sov 0: 8 points Sov 1: 10 points Sov 2: 11 points Sov 3: 13 points Sov 4: 16 points Sov 5: 20 points
Stations have a 6x multiplier, so 48/60/66/78/96/120 points respectively.
Finally, on a note of good news, the sovereignty map will be available earlier in the day starting with Dominion. CCP previously had a 6 hour timer on sovereignty data, which necessitated waiting 6 hours after DT to draw the map. Now that timer is 1 hour, so the map will be available several hours earlier in the day. At this point it's looking like drawing will start 1.5 hours after DT ends.
There will be a catch however, and that is that sovereignty no longer changes at just DT. For the sake of simplicity in reading the maps (and my own sanity), the map will continue to be published once per day. But it will drift out of date as the TQ day continues on. This shouldn't cause any issues, but is noted all the same. ---- FREE Explorer Lead Megalomanic EVE Null-Sec Player Influence Map http://dl1.eve-files.com/media/corp/Veritefw/FWinf |

Curious what the EVE Influence map is? Read below for Paladin's description
Originally by: Paladin Vent My purpose was to create an objective, unbiased political map of the EVE. The map, that will not base on someoneÆs thoughts and opinions, but only on public facts, such as sovereignty of the solar systems.
Each claimed solar system emits its influence to the nearest space. The system with outpost emits 6 times more influence than regular claimed one. The system with greater sovereignty level emits the more influence. The amount of the influence is reducing proportional to the square distance from the emitting system. For every point of map the summary influence of all alliances is calculated and the territory lays claim to the most influencing alliance.
Moreover, influence is spreading through the jump gates to the neighbors' systems. After each jump influence value decreased by 70%. All systems that get influence from the star gate spread also begin to emit it in space (Systems can emit influence for different alliances concurrently).
he systems, claimed by NPC are also emitting a little ôempireö influence, so the alliances canÆt claim their territory.
Just think that influence is water and color on map is steam. This should clarify the idea of the map.
Map is fully generated by the Java program. No editions were made to it by the human hands. Some of the alliances donÆt appear on the map, because their influence is to low to overwhelm their big influencing neighbor.
The original map code is under a BSD license, as is this. You can find a copy of the code, the database, and the associated tools here.
The latest version of the map: http://dl.eve-files.com/media/corp/Verite/influence.png
History of the previous versions: Map archive
The map updated every day.
Please read this before post a reply: 1. This is not a war map. It'll not display any conflicts or ship loss. 2. This is not a power bloc map. It's colored for visibility, not for the relationship between various groups. 2. This is not an exact political map. Some systems and even outposts claimed by one alliance may appear on the territory of the other alliance, which is dominating here by influence. ---- FREE Explorer Lead Megalomanic EVE Null-Sec Player Influence Map http://dl1.eve-files.com/media/corp/Veritefw/FWinf |

Yeah, I'll be doing a code release once I'm done with it.
And yes, it still uses recursion. However I just give it a larger stack; RAM is cheap. ---- FREE Explorer Lead Megalomanic EVE Null-Sec Player Influence Map http://dl1.eve-files.com/media/corp/Veritefw/FWinf |

First: Very good job! Thx for doing this! Your map (and Wollari's ones also ofcourse!) helps a lot to get EVE also this much political as it is!
Checked shortly, but couldn't find a thread for input to your map. So i hope this is the right place for it! But also have a bit of an idea.
CCP want's to bring more ppl and with this, more alliances to nullsec. But with the points and the station multiplier you use maybe a lot of alliances won't get any "bubble" on your map because they are "so-called PETs" and surrounded by their "masters" or just this small that they can just aford 5-6 Systems. But IMO they are also part of EVE, not the biggest but they are!
Don't know how much work it is to get a map printed with different Points and/or multiplier. Not every day, just once in the future, some weeks after the first changes are made and everything is getting bit more constant with the sov. If the changes work like CCP wanted them to work, then there will be much more different alliances to see on the map than today.
Second idea, also don't know if this is possible without a lot of work: Today it happens very offen that system claimed by Alliance 1 are located in the "Bubble" of Alliance 2. That makes it sometimes look a bit over-/underpowered. Also the fact that some bubbles are this large that they cover some unclaimable systems (NPC-0.0) make them look bigger and/or powerfull as they are. Maybe would be nice if u add some bubbles for the 0.0 NPC holders and can modifier your map that they won't be shown but their influence is their.
!!! This is privat intention, no official post for my corp and/or alliance !!! |

Great Map as always but one thing I would like to see tidied up is in some places your Influence spills into NPC 0.0, and other NPC controlled spaces. But in other places it does not. I would really like to see some consistency with it, showing NPC Sovereign space as un-influenced by Player Sovereignty.

NPC sov is an either/or thing. Either player alliances spill in to NPC space a bit, or NPCs spill in to player space a bit. I'd rather have the former than the latter. ---- FREE Explorer Lead Megalomanic EVE Null-Sec Player Influence Map http://dl1.eve-files.com/media/corp/Veritefw/FWinf |

You're going to have to write a script or get an application that can grab them one-by-one from EVE-Files. The entire collection is 600MB; that's much too big to host at most places. ---- FREE Explorer Lead Megalomanic EVE Null-Sec Player Influence Map http://dl1.eve-files.com/media/corp/Veritefw/FWinf |

Question for you on the map calculations... When Council held JC- outpost in Pure Blind they were on the map... now that CO2 holds it... there is no patch on the map... is your map calculating changes in sov properly? Just curious. Same with the new Outpost in D2- in Pure Blind... I would have expected a patch on the map there too.

The Council held systems around that station, thus making there blob bigger, also the longer you hold it, the stronger the influence.
