Phoenix T'ril Gallente Hashimoto Corporation	Posted - 2009.12.01 21:38:00 - [1] I've been loving this patch so far, but an issue that I ran into on Sisi and bugreported has managed to slip through the cracks, and now it's rendering the game nearly unplayable for me. On the fittings screen, a white stripe appears, beginning at the right edge of where the CPU and PG numbers should be, and continues to the left hand side of the screen. When the white stripe appears, my FPS drops from a capped 30 to 4. I enabled the FPS graph and took a screenshot, and you can see the dramatic drop in FPS when I open the Fittings window. Please see the attached screenshot. You can find my DXDiag dump here. A quick poll of Eve Radio chat found one other person with the bug. I have already tried updating my graphics drivers, and they are now the latest available for my graphics card. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this bug? CCP?

Yeah, I set em to medium right away while debugging the cause. Meant to say that it only happens when textures are set to high. Bad phrasing on my part.

I have a ATI x1650 Pro and have the white box bug in the fitting panel though luckily I haven't had problems warping. I submitted a bug report on this WITH a screenshot and got a e-mail back stating that my description of the bug was "unclear" and that I should update my bug report with a better description of the problem. I'd offer to draw them a picture but they apparently didn't know what to do with a screenshot so I think I'll just cut my losses and wait for a patch.

I'm using the latest drivers. Catalyst 9.11. I updated them today, no change from before or after. That screenshot is from after I updated the drivers. The fitting screen appears to be loading fine at first, but a white stripe comes up together with the ship and modules, and that kills my fps. Modules can still be added and removed ( technically, at least ), but the stripe hides the pgrid and cpu readouts. Ati x1900xt video card here, by the way.

My system has a different set-up, but I experience this issue regardless of in-game settings ( I've tried switching back to fullscreen, changing the resolution and the various display options. Nothing I've tried appeared to work ). On a side note, it seems that dragging the fitting window to the bottom of the screen - just enough to make the white stripe go off-screen - will bring the fps back to normal. You can then at least load saved set-ups without fps issues....

I have found out that my graphiccard driver has been outdated. So I applied the newest Catalyst package (9.11, 11/17/2009) and the problem was gone. SISI worked fine but I found out that since then I had a small colorful dot-frame around my icons on TQ. And I was not able to move my scanner probes in the system map anymore. That problem still remains and I dont know if the reason is the driver update. Graphiccard: ATI X1950GT Regards

The bug still exists and I cant play Eve at all. 3 accounts being paid for which I cannot use. Bug reported, screen submitted, DxDiag submitted, all drivers at latest release. There is nothing I can do.

I have Radeon X1950 and had white stripe on fittings screen, laggy / slideshow frame rate when undocking, when entering warp etc etc. I simply updated my drivers to the latest version (09.11) and all was sorted. http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx

But on my xp OS with Ati radeaon X1800 , i have the problem with the white stripe, and more. Since Dominion I have very much lags between warping, docking station. Okay the planets look better now, but can't be the reason for Lag. I tried different setups. The really bad thing is the white strip.

Tried reinstalling the 9.11 drivers again just to be sure as others seemingly had the issue resolved by driver update, though that was the first thing I tried. However the problem is still present. I'm sure the update took, because CCC says 9.11, and an issue that I had with Modern Warfare 2's text turning into matrix characters has been corrected, so I know for certain there's updated drivers in there. Tried to install the full ATI Catalyst Control Centre thinghy and then everything got borked real bad. Finally removed ALL ATI related stuff, then installed the full CCC+drivers 09.11 and voila, white bar is gone. Had no time yet to test if frame drops and freeze up's got fixed as well.

And I can't update my ATI Mobility Raddeon X1400 drivers, since I have a Dell inspiron 6400 laptop. Every driver I download won't install because it says I have to go to the manufacturer of my computer. But on Dell.com is only a very old driver from 2007. Anyone knows how I could update my drivers anyway ?

I had extreme sluggishness when opening the fitting window, and a white bar across the low slots in fitting window. It happened in space and docked. I did nothing else, I just updated my drivers and the issue disappeared. I am running the pci version of the x1300.

Go to DriverHeaven and look to their Mobility Modder program and instructions- that's the way I did it for my Gen1 XPS laptop and its ancient Mobility Radeon 9800 (which, admittedly, I haven't used for EVE in awhile, and it may not have the Shader tech to handle it anymore). ---- "Sounds like a bad case of pikal envy, if you ask me." I did a complete uninstall of ATI products in the system, using their uninstaller, running a registry clean, deleting the directories on the hard drive, everything. And still, the cat came back the very next day. Needless to say, still got it as of Dominion 1.0.1, but that was expected, there's nothing in the patch notes about a fix for this. All we can do now is cross our fingers and hope for the best! I know you can do it, CCP.

I've tried a few of the driver sets I had, and found that version 9.3 did the trick for me ( or so it would appear for now, hehe ). Ati Radeon x1900xt here by the way. Xander XacXorien	Posted - 2009.12.04 10:08:00 - [58] The GM's asked me to remove the drivers, run a 3rd party tool to try and clear down any previous detritus from the previous driver and reinstall the drivers again. Rather than run the 3rd party tool I opted to reinstall windows XP, upgraded to SP3 and then install the drivers without any previous install (All on a new partition). The problem still exists,,,, To the previous post, my ATI support directory shows I had 9.3 installed prior to 9.11 so no luck there for me either. (I still have the driver set there in the old partition.

I reinstalled graphics drivers to, and it is still there. Seems to be a problem with the x1k series of card then, I have a X1800XT, so I guess we will be waiting a while for a fix :/ Annoying as hell though, so difficult and near impossible to fit my ship.

Carcopino	Posted - 2009.12.04 13:48:00 - [61] I'm not sure it's a good idea to install the latest Ati drivers on old cards - such as X1800 and X1900 series -, because those are legacy products now. According to Ati, the most update version for our cards should be 9.3. That one worked for me. Also, this advice might not be necessary, but try and follow the uninstall-reinstall instructions on the Ati website, if you haven't already. Cheers and good luck !.

Spent several more hours puzzling over this and trying different driver versions as some are reporting that a particular version has solved the issue, but unfortunately I haven't been able to replicate their success. I have tried Catalysts: 7.9 (yeah, I know) 8.10 9.3 9.8 9.11 Also it may be worth mentioning that three and a half years ago or so I bought and built two identical PCs; identical except for the graphics cards. My main has an x1800XT with 512GB and the other was an x1800XL with 256GB. As I expected both of these cards exhibit the problem we are talking about, but this does at least prove (unless I am spectacularly unlucky) that this is not some latent problem with individual cards, as others with apparently the same cards are not having problems or are resolving theirs with driver changes. I had kinda hoped that the XL would be okay but wasn't surprised when it was exactly the same as the XT. I'm now back where I started running Catalyst 9.11. Please correct me if I'm wrong but I see it like this: Until Dominion I had no significant issues with EVE or any other game, and certainly no white rectangles and FPS plummet anywhere. The white rectangle and FPS plummet seems to be isolated to the Fitting screen, though there are frame lag issues reported by others without the white rectangle, so it's probably be safe to assume that these are separate problems or at least not directly related. From the two facts above I assume the issue to be caused by Fitting screen code changes introduced with Dominion There is no significant change to the Fitting screen for Dominion, at least not that I can see. If my assumptions above are correct, would it not be possible for CCP to determine what in the updated code is causing this issue, and find a code work-around that will not adversely impact Dominion? I recognise that the root of the problem may be something flaky on ATI side, whether hardware or drivers or a comination of the two. However the facts that everything was fine before Dominion, the problem seems isolated to the Fitting screen, and that the Fitting screen has not visibly changed much, suggest to me that a Fitting screen code work-around - or some kind of full or partial Fitting screen code regression - would be the best way to sort this out. Hope it is definitely solved (and will also work with my other games, didn't have the time to test everything yet)

The white stripe at the fitting screen and the subsequent fps drop are definitely due to the same issue. Drag your fitting screen to the bottom, until you can no longer see the white stripe, and you'll notice the fps revert back to normal. Maybe there is some kind of bug where the card is failing to draw the bottom section of the fitting screen itself .. just an idea. As for the other issue with framerate you mentioned, I had that too, but that was dealt with quickly by bringing the eye candy down a notch. Unfortunately I do not really remember what the settings were prior to Dominion release, so I can't be sure whether the patch maxed them out on its own as default setting, or if the software is more of a resource hog now and is not as smooth with the same settings. More likely than not, it's the former, though. Cheers.

I'd recommend if reinstalling the drivers didn't work for you just move the bottom of the fitting screen with the white bar down until it is no longer on your monitor. You'll get some fps back and the fitting screen is somewhat useable again.

The whole idea with sliding the fitting window partially offscreen is to give you the chance to fit the rest of the ship without it slowing your system to a crawl. If you'd like some catharsis, try going on Sisi and see if the problem's fixed for you in the Sisi build.
