Gain experience based on things you do in-game (mining, trading, pve/pvp fighting) Base the ratio of xp gained on 4 hours of play During 4 hours of play, you should gain 20% of the SP you would normally generate per day. 8 hours = 40% of daily sp 12 hours = 60% of daily sp Skill points gained from xp would be based on learning skills and implants
Example: You normally generate 1,000 sp per day You play for 4 hours and get 200 extra sp You play for 24 hours and get 1200 extra sp I would assume that most players that dont afk train skills play about 2-8 hours a day. That shouldnt be too game breaking, but give an incentive to actually be in the game.
What do you guys think.

Its the weekly make eve like every other mmo idea.
Learning skills...implants, help to speed up train times. Make your isk in the mean time cause chances are if you power level to bs which is what you seem to want to do, you'll be losing a few lol.

We don't have classes set in stone. Case in point, my main in null sec flies unrelated ships and is planned to train a third. He either flies inties or drakes. Night and day ships, different roles, abilities, skill sets and fits. Currently boosting sb skills. Then either HAC or BS in the future. Points for flying can't work in eve. Not every player mobs it in empire running missions till they puke. Several ops in a week needs scouts/points...guess what I fly. How is a player supposed to tweak another ship's skills if always in an unrelated ship class? Eve's answer...fly what you want, train what you want.
Want to go kill 10 billion boars and mob farm...lots of games for that lol.

Does attracting more/new players equal implementing horrible concepts?
Bad idea is bad, no matter how often it is suggested. And this 'new idea' has been suggested MANY times. Actually.. it has been in the game at a very early state, and it has been taken out due to macros/bots.

What about players who are permadocked trading on the market? What about players who fly to a spot and then afk the rest of the day?
Simply due to the difficualty to determine if someone is really doing something or not (gatecamping is still a strategic activity), and the unfairness it implies to different players doing different things, and to players before and after this "change", it is simply NOT going to be added into the game.

I think if we wanted to play something like WoW or anything like that we would...eve is different. And you do get experience as you play besides sp training...if you get podded in low sec, you learn to either not go back, or go back with buddies. While this exp idea would help lower lvl ppl boost up to higher lvl status, it turns eve into a more easy play ground.
Not that i play the market any, but this system would possibly bork people that buy and sell on the markets in volume. Leave grinding to where it belongs, in those playpen baby games like WoW. Eve is better than that.

Eve's skill system is nice for people with RL and a job and stuff. They don't need to worry about falling behind (skillwise) because they can't grind boars 23/7.
If you want to grind stuff in order to have an advantage, grind ISK in one way or another. You may even buy a more advanced char for those ISK off the forum.

Eve has 2 measures of succes. Skillpoints and isk. I know it's very crude to say this, as there are factors involved, but basically:
SP you earn by paying, and you gain it at a steady rate. Your success in a field is determined by planning what field you want to be successful in, paying for eve-online, and training skills to become good at that field, requiring patience. Everyone is at equal grounds (more or less) at this aspect.
Isk you earn by playing. If you want more isk, you spend more time ingame to earn it.
We absolutely do not need a bonus to skillpoints for time spent.

I dont want to be implemented every bad idea, even if is proposed manytimes, but sometimes from bad idea can get good result if properly disused/refined, but with apochach from peoples like Grarr which show down your idea without any thouthg. Nice example is my new destroyers idea - it was shot down by these dinosauruses, but as new thread about destroyers - insipred by me - with well though ships - gain only good responses. How it is possible ? And mayby if this is bad idea, thread is about atracting new players, so this leaves ways for posting here completly new ideeas how to do it, and few of them can be good. And if only shooting down of ideas will hapen here, then it is imposible to be good resuklt from brainstorming, because brainstorming didnt happen at all.

One of the reasons why I found and play Eve is because I can play a game where I don't have to grind to get my xp. + I don't really have to compete against losers with no life that get lvlomgwtf1mil+ within the first release of patch. xp grind rewards bots, and mouth breathers that still live at thier parents home.
Eve I don't worry about not playing cause I got a skill cooking in the oven for 10days. + rewarding carebear acts for xp boost blows. That would force me to do crappy ratting, missions, plex, or mining to keep up with the jones' xp wise. I HATE PVE, can't stand it.
Also what keeps me from just staying docked up in station afk and get this SP boost?

more people means more noobs = more threads like this.
I prefer quality for quantity, eve should attact people who really like the game design instead of being a magnet for wow noobs.

But some players live for gate/base camping - rokie killing - so more players-more fun for them.
And if you want to ged rid of bad ideas thread it is very easy way to do it - make EVE much more rokie friendly, and the treads simply dissapear. These threads appear mainly because EVE hardly favor veteran players above rokie players.

Originally by: Czert ElPrezidente So guys, insted of saying only no,no,no....etc - then come with ANOTHER idea how to attract more players to game.
things that attracted friends to eve:
- 0.0 politics - the BoB incident - the 24h skill queue - the fact that you dont have to grind to be competitive - the sandbox nature of eve.
Last week a friend and I tried to find another successful MMO with the sandbox theme and we couldnt really think of one.
And i really like that you can do racing in eve. or just trading. or just building, or pvp or all together. I played the game for two years now and still haven't tried everything. (I guess the dream of building an outpost will take another 1-2years) When people ask about being spoon feed its like trying to turn eve into something different. Once you understood that the patience and learning part is important in this game you will stop thinking in "i want all that now/faster" terms.
So if you wonder why people shoot down most of your ideas, it is because you want to turn that game into something too easy.

Edited by: Deganos on 09/12/2009 17:39:54 There is nothing wrong with CCP creating the ideal mix between the current system and getting sp with playing.
I find it very childish that people don't want it because they had to wait for their skills too.
If they don't change it I couldn't care less but atleast I won't be the jealous ***** whining and crying about it...
EDIT: I forgot to state that I don't agree with the OP's solution but I can see his point of view.

Ok so i admit after hearing all the responses that it would have adverse affects on the "EVE gameplay". The only reason i would want faster skillup would be so that i can make more money/ not have to worry about keeping all +5's in and not geting podded. If i dont have 4,5's in that means im gaining sp slower then other ppl.
Are you guys also opposed to a 3rd tier of the 5 learning skills, and a t2, t3 learning skill? I guess the only people that would have those skills are people that already have enough, and would further seperate the vets from the noobs.
3rd idea, what about offering people that have done hundreds of level 4 missions in a BS, the option of making the same money from missions designed for frigates, cruisers ect (with scaled difficulty, not the same as level 1 missions if your in a frigate)?

Wasn't the BOB incident just a director who was tired off it and switched sides? You all make it sound like it took years of preperation wich would have been cool indeed.

The only real way of making the game more rookie friendly is more tutorials and documentation imho. A corpmate of mine lost multiple ships in missions because nobody showed him how to fit ships and how to find good ideas about fittings. since he joined our corp he hasnt lost a ship in missions. so now he has all his money for pvp.
Sadly CCP somewhat nerfed npc corps with dominion so many older player who could help rookies will leave the starter corps. And to Deganos: you miss the point ... grinding doesnt make the game more rookie friendly at all. I also doubt it will attract more players to be honest. what you will end up with is worst of both worlds. you have to grind and still have the steep learning curve of eve and grinding.
what makes eve hard for rookies isnt the "slow" progression skill points wise. it's the (missing) education how to use the SP you have properly. experienced player can do amazing things also on low SP characters. so as old players i can just encourage you to start helping rookies, and for the rookies to be too shy to ask people for help.

What some new players fail to see is that you CAN do and try out many different things with very little SP invested. And you just need to find something that you like doing. You won't like mission running in a pimped out marauder if you didn't like doing it in a frig. Same with mining, same with exploration, trading, even PvP. The key is to find something fun doing and then skilling up in that profession. Then you play the game because it's fun and not to gain XP or something.
Yes, the game is complicated and deep, so looking for information by yourself (forum, newb chat, etc) is vital, or better looking for a corp. But in that regard EVE won't take you by the hand, you get thrown out there. I think those players surviving the initial stage are better suited for this harsh universe and deliver better threads on the forum.
