From one explorer to another, I wish you the best of luck in your journey and your blog. You may want to consider posting on a blog site like podlogs. You can check out my sig for a link to mine. It's free and has enough features for what I'm trying to do.
Happy Holidays.

Day Five: Hello Buttercup
Just a small update for today. For once I actually found another person in the wormhole and he possessed the rather interestingly named Harbinger of Buttercup. Even in my Post-Christmas cheer (read drunk) I knew such a ferociously named battlecruiser could be only trouble. Fortunately for me the pod-pilot, Fyrewynd, turned out to be harmless, well at least to a ship with less than five hundred health.
He was shooting the sleepers in one of the cosmic anomalies and after finding which one he was in we had a nice little chat in local:
Fyrewynd > hello :) Zephyr Song > Merry Christmas Fyrewind and whoever else may be here o/ Fyrewynd > just me and you so far Fyrewynd > and im leaving in a min Zephyr Song > I thought so but paranoia is a virtue in this game :D Fyrewynd > indeed Zephyr Song > don't worry i'm not gonna hurt you , see here: http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=1237607 Fyrewynd > its late im not worried about being hurt lol Fyrewynd > theres more than you here in your zeph anyways i see more now :) Zephyr Song > Is that so? Well can the new peoples please say hello? Fyrewynd > come on Anemoi speak up Fyrewynd > rude people make me want to shoot my guns Zephyr Song > lol thats the name of my ship, just as yours is buttercup Fyrewynd > o thought it was your name Fyrewynd > my bad maybe just me and you as most the sites have ships Fyrewynd > some that i cannot take they are hitting for 1kish Zephyr Song > Fortunatley for me the sleepers don't attack Zephyrs :D Fyrewynd > indeed Fyrewynd > goodnight and goodlcuk Fyrewynd > or goodluck Zephyr Song > bye
Fyrewind forgot to loot one of the wrecks of the sleepers he was shooting so I helped myself to two sleeper data libraries, my first souvenirs. Found a wormhole to Uzigh barely 6 jumps from Amarr so stayed in J223853 in search of a better wormhole. Another wormhole went to Thakala, a 0.4 system in Devoid. So once again I stayed in my comfy hole. I might have to go deeper into lowsec to find better connecting wormholes.
I also learnt a useful little titbit of information: record the Ids of which wormholes and other cosmic signatures you have identified if you are jumping out and in of systems as the scanner forgets what had previously been detected.
I might have to make a proper blog at that site Katia Sae, got some screenshots that would be good to put up.

Nice post. You should really get set-up on Blogspot or Wordpress for some blogging because as you've found out, the EVE-O forums fail horribly at it because of restrictions (hint hint CCP, lighten the frak up). ____________________

Day Six: Weaving Through the Stars
I donÆt think anyone had been in J223853 since the previous downtime as the system had to be loaded when logging in and sure enough it was quiet as a mouse. After a little scanning around I found a wormhole to Olfeim in Minmatar lowsec then I finally found a connecting wormhole system.
I jumped into J103716 and probably left J223853 for the last time. I detected an Amarr control tower at planet VII moon one. Belongs to Dark Tribe, a small supposedly mercenary corp. the POS was online and loaded with lots of lasers and faction gear. Got out of there in case it decided to shoot me and shorten my epic adventure. After scanning around I found a couple of highsec wormholes (Jaswelu in Domain and Nahol in Kor-Azor respectively) and luckily for me another wormhole system.
J125247 lacked any other players or even POSs but was loaded with Cosmic Signatures and took me ages to sift the Ladar and Gravimetric sites for the wormholes.
Also this wormhole J125247 seems to be full of Integrated Terminus, I have not seen these before and I assume there are rather juicy sleeper loot in the Sleeper Archive terminal, but of course I have no method to get at it. I need to read up on the Eve fluff, I have no idea what a Talocan is and why they have Polestars (looks like a giant piece of industrial machinery).
ôHere you are again: another dead end. This impasse is not a physical one, but an ancient one. Why is there a Sleeper station near these Talocan ruins? Why does it seem like these ancient races, long dead and all but forgotten, are intertwined, like star-crossed lovers in the universal play? Perhaps the answer rests in that terminal. Only one way to find out.ö
I found two new wormholes in this system, both to new wormhole systems. J11334 was also empty and wasnÆt of particular note but the wormhole for J102409 led into ôdangerous unknown parts of spaceö.
Dangerous unknown parts of space!? How could I say ænoÆ to that?

Day Seven: A Cunning Plan
Well my loyal followers and hopefully not a too few sycophants I jumped into that dangerous unknown part of space called J102409. And once again It seemed empty except for an Amarr Control Tower at Planet VIII-14 belonging to the Antrad Corporation, from what I can tell a thirteen man carebear corp.
Again the POS did not shoot at me or even begin targeting. I was under the impression that POS guns automatically fire on those without friendly standings. Nonetheless I left it alone lest the POS changed its mind. After scanning around for a little while and not finding much of interest I found another wormhole to the ôdangerous unknown parts of spaceö and thus jumped into J125929.
Now at this point I got a little confused for I detected a mobile warp disruptor but whenever I scanned at the planets I could not detect it. Now either my directional scanner skills are woefully inadequate or I can detect objects through wormholes.
No matter, a single warp disruptor is harmless against me (I think). I decided to see what cosmic signatures and anomalies were present and I found my first lot of Sleeper information Sanctums.
ôData is eternal, immortal, immutable. Even when the engineers and intelligence behind its creation are gone, information, facts, and knowledge never die. Throughout this deadspace pocket, information lives and breathes, whispering hidden meanings through conduits and cables. Serene though it may be, there are forces at work û mechanical by nature, artificial in existence, enlightened by unnatural choice û that do not want information to be shared. They are unsleeping guardians protecting the universeÆs slumbering god, knowledge.ö
I also found a wormhole to an ôunknown part of spaceö, they seem to be a lower level of wormhole systems and as you are no doubt aware of my earlier adventures seem to connect to highsec so with a quick look around of J172028 and after finding my first Solar Cell I jumped back into the previous system
ôAstrophysicists studying Sleeper sites have noted that some Sleeper structures are still operational û and by design, no less. Outposts run basic life support systems, engineering stations buzz with running motors, and stations glimmer with light, energy, and mundane activity. No known reason exists for this persistent operation, but a few clues emerge.
This cluster of thermoelectric converters is common around large solar bodies, supposedly for collecting radiation and storing energy for use throughout Sleeper colonies: a persistent generator for a dead race. Even to this day, this structure is operational, although how it distributes its energy and for what purpose is still unknown.ö
Originally by: Herzog Wolfhammer Why do I get the feeling this is not going to end well?
That is of course a possibility, even a probable one, after all the seas are littered with the wrecks of would-be explorers, but what would be the alternatives be? For the Zephyr to gather proverbial dust in my hangar until I sell it for a quick buck or my subscription lapses? Or as a fancy vehicle for my industrial alts until they get destroyed by some moronic suicide ganker after the ever important carebear tears?
I have a feeling that the Zephyr is not only an interesting Christmas present from CCP but perhaps a trial run for what may come in the future.
Second half will be up in a few minutes, stupid character limits.

Day Seven: A Cunning Plan Part B
By staying in J125929 I wished to try out a Cunning Plan, which was as cunning as a fox that used to be Professor of Cunning at Oxford University but has moved on, and is now working for the UN at the High Commission of International Cunning Planning. I hoped to find either a radar or gravimetric site. I read that there is ôcansö that can be looted in the more difficult sites but naturally the websites and forums were lacking in more specific information. I wished to see if I could just fly up to one of these cans and like a catburgler take the sleepers stuff without alerting the Sleepers.
Well I found an Unsecured Frontier Digital Nexus and it seemed to be exactly what I was looking for:
ôOut in the darkness, a curious deadspace signature taunts brave and reckless explorers alike to try and uncover what secrets may be hidden in the depths. Electronic interference floods through your shipÆs systems only moments after your warp drive locks on and activates, growing in ferocity as you are hurled towards the strange phenomenon.ö
Along with the usual sleepers this site contains twelve ôobsolete sleeper databaseö, and as far as I could tell from 70km away are just the same as jettison cans. But of course there is no such thing as a free lunch as I found out once I was close enough to open the can:
ôYou cannot open obsolete sleeper database without specialised equipmentö
So much for my hope for discovering a new way to make iskies. And I donÆt even have a Baldrick I can blame on for my failures. It was at that point that I had yet another cunning plan:
What if I get another alt flying a Zephyr but instead of probes had the skills to hack into these metal pi±atas, so that Zephyr Song would scan down at warp to the cans then the Burgler would warp to Zephyr Song and get the delicious sleeper loot? This way with perhaps the help of a hauler depending of the size of cumulated loot we would become rich without having to shoot, or be shot at a single sleeper/
But of course not, that would be too good to be true. To open those cans requires a piece of hardware called a Codebreaker II and the required skills to run however the standard model Zephyr possessing a single high slot and the Codebreaker II is, naturally, A Mid Slot item.
Oh well, such if life. And with that note I logged off in J125929 and see if tomorrow wormholes to better systems will spawn.

Day Eight: Minor Update
I am still in J125929 and so is the Mobile Warp Disruptor and as far as I can tell from directional scanning and using the probes on the solar system map as visual aids it seems strangely enough to not be at any planet. It seems to be between planet IV and V but not at any of the moons. And because it is still present when all the (scanned) wormholes have gone I can only assume it was left there deliberately or the loot from an industrial.
If anyone knows how to find where exactly it is please say so.

Zerphyr can't fit anything but the probe launcher it comes with, very likely for the exact reasons you're attempting.
Incidently, should you come across a tower belonging to Blacksteel Mining and Manufacturing, let us know you're in system, we tend to be very aggressive but I imagine we could make an exception for a simple explorer.

+1 internets to you, sir!
Would be nice if you could include screenshots, even if they were just links, to relevant parts of your story. I feel it gives it a bit more substance and perspective, plus they can always be doctored for extra humour.

Read this about sailing in general (applies) and this about solar sailing.
TLDR: "There is a common misunderstanding that solar sails cannot go towards their light source. This is false. In particular, sails can go toward the sun by thrusting against their orbital motion. This reduces the energy of their orbit, spiraling the sail toward the sun, see Tack (sailing).[6]" -

That depends on how the POS is set up. You can make it shoot anyone on sight (including yourself) or not even return fire. Also, individual POS structures have their own activation proximity ranges, and for some it may take quite forever to get a lock on you, so a small ship will generally have enough time to gtfo.

You cannot detect objects through wormholes. I also don't think you can scan down bubbles with probes (definitely not with Core ones). They may have indeed tried to put a bubble between two celestials (though it's pointless because bubbles don't work off-grid). They also may have left it at a warp-in of some site and never recovered it.
Nice to know you're keeping it up btw.

Day Nine: Friendly Natives
I woke up in J125929 without needing to wait for the system to load; this gave me hope that there is a wormhole to somewhere interesting. During my routine directional scanning I momentarily picked up an Iteron but it disappeared. Later detected a Scorpion but it also disappeared. I even said good afternoon in local but people are so rude these days. I guessed I spooked whoever was around.
After jumping through a couple of Dangerous Unknown wormholes it appeared I had stumbled upon the much-fabled space whales. I counted two Orcas with my directional scanner along with a small pod of industrials and other mining ships, all-sitting within a POS at one of the moons.
I mused to myself what they were doing in such a place. Perhaps they were resting from the ordeal of a never ending migration, or perhaps hiding from the space Japanese and their whaling ships. Just as I was about to take a closer look at one of natures most wonderful sites a strange event occurred: A Mastodon landed right on top of me at the wormhole.
After a brief and no doubt heart-racing few minutes Kait Sith of the corp that owned that station and all those ships, Spectral Forces, Private convoÆd me. It turned out that he had previously read this thread and knew whom I was. It also turned out that the ships I had detected previously belonged to members of his corporation. They probably just jumped out without looking at local.
I was Kait SithÆs first visitor to his home system in about three months. Kait Sith and his corpmates had been living in this system for a while, mining and doing the various spawns the connecting WH systems had to offer.
After my lamenting of CCPs foresight of not allowing the Zephyr to become a flying WIN button (I really wanted to be able to loot sleeper cans) and Kaits description of a somewhat insane strategy of becoming rich off sleepers we both logged for the day.

Great read, after recently getting back into the game I am really enjoying the new scanning mechanics.
Found my first wormhole on Sunday night, took me from a 0.7 system to somewhere in nulsec. Did a little exploring but warped out after a while as I was not sure if my Vexor could handle any Rats I might bump into. Quite exciting flying around in there though.

Day Ten: Kindness of Strangers/ Bloody Ladar!
I hadnÆt logged on in about a fortnight and so I was still in J121558. Turned out I wasnÆt alone, fortunately it was a corpmate of Kait Sith. Quip Transkar had read this thread before and was kind enough to fleet invite me so I could warp to a new wormhole that lead to another dangerous unknown part of space.
J103104 gave me a new message I hadnÆt seen before, something about spatial anomalies affecting my ship. However I had no idea what it was so I did a bit a scouting around the system to see what I could find. With the exception of occasionally picking up Quip TranskarÆs Scorpion of directional scanner it was empty of any other form of human life.
And this is the point I started getting way too stressed from a game. I began my customary search for a new wormhole by the usual method of by identifying the type of a cosmic anomaly and ignoring it if it isnÆt a wormhole. But one by painstaking one I got each anomaly to around forty percent only to see it was yet another Ladar site.
This is the list I made before DT occurred:
YFH-102 unstable wormhole to J121558 SXE-297 Ladar RSM-846 ladar JSZ-155 ladar XRH-509 Ladar COM-326 Ladar SUR-111 Ladar PDV-171 Ladar MHF-565 Ladar QZP-632 Radar OAA-483 Ladar ULW-546 Gravimetric
This was far too tedious, I need a better (faster) way of determining the types of anomalies. Currently I am using five probes at once, one in the middle with the other four about half overlapping the middle probe and slightly each other. If that wasnÆt clear enough it was the way scanning was done on the CCP video tutorial.

You can kinda try to guess the anomaly type by the signal strength, but that of course depends on your probe's position as well. I believe that using seven probes also helps. And i'm not sure that you normally see that many sites in a single system.
Also, with a rigged and bonused ship, you can usually skip steps - but Zephyr is neither bonused nor riggable, and as such isn't the best ship for scanning stuff down to be honest.
On an unrelated note, i feel compelled to warn you that some gravimetric sites have "gas clouds" that damage your ship (similarly to Recon 3/3 mission). The damage could be just about enough to destroy a Zephyr in one wave, so you may want to avoid warping there.
