One word:
WHY.
How could someone's genitalia possibly effect his ingame, online status? If its been asked before, sorry. Havn't read the entire thread, mostly because I can't be arsed.

I clicked on the topic after ignoring it as it got to a reasonable length, and was gonna say like ah who cares, i dont want more women ingame i dont give a stuff, but i wouldnt mind more people.
But you know this thread is pretty funny, and so maybe we should encourage more women. Trouble is, encouraging more woman probably entails doing stuff that men dont want to do.
I like the game, i want everyone in the world to like it. I dont much care if they are a woman. I mean, say i meet a woman on here, we could surupptitiously elope to a moon, but in the grand scheme of things it aint gonna mean we live happily ever after, and we can kill each other whatever gender.
I guess it just aint an issue to me, so long as they dont girlify the game.
San. Character "Widescreen" is a scammer; beware.

Funnily enough many of the men that play this game don't spend enough time outdoors where many of the women are.
The answer is that if they want to see more women they should *gasp* stop playing this game *gasp*. At least for long enough to go out for a while.
I roleplay... there is this computer game called "Earth - The First Genesis" where i play a character in the early 21st century. |

Edited by: Cary Grant on 20/11/2004 03:57:48 It has to do with psychology, more men play Eve for the same reason they play Halo, it's PvP oriented, women in general are not wired the same way and thus do not find these types of games appealing. Eve is nothing more than a bunch of guys (again, in GENERAL) hanging out in a virtual garage trying to figure out how to put more guns on their cars, then heading out to the shooting range or ranch and trying them out. The majority of Myst purchasers were women, the same for the Sims. These games (PvP) just are NOT marketed to women. And the majority of the ones that I have encountered (very few in actuality) are either dedicated Miners and/or researchers, non-combat oriented roles. So until there is a massive change to how this game is marketed, we will continue to see Gallente girls who are indeed Men. Alot of it has to do with age as well, the fairer gender typically in her late teens through her twenties tends to be a social member of society, where as men in the same category are not, and could be just as happy in a bar or at home playing eve. Women also tend to be more confident with higher self-esteem than men of the same age and so feel NO need to go online and turn into their alto-ego to prove that they indeed are a badass in a battleship after they park the 4 cylinder in the garage after work. If virtually anyway.

I would say it has more to do with the fact that it is not considered "cool" for women to be gamers (just like straight men generally aren't allowed to like "dressing up"). Games like Myst sold so well because they where not marketed at the established hard core gamer market.
Frankly I don't care what the gender is of people I encounter in games, because I don't play them to "pick up chicks". --------------------------------------------------

Anyway, Ive noticed that amongst my friends, I can get the non gaming girls to play anything as long as they can change their clothes / appearance.
Now, our avatars are a very small part of this game. To make it appeal to a greater number of women however I feel that great success can be had allowing ship skin customizations.
You're talking of vehicle customization. How many women do you know that take time to customize their car with chrome, custom paint, fat exhaust pipes, bells and whistles so it stands out? How many men do you know that waste time on doing exactly that?
Exactly.
(you're not your ship. girls are smart enough to grasp that concept, too..)
