Edited by: Aloriana Jacques on 06/01/2010 05:01:42 With Dominion fresh off the shelves it seems a bit odd to be ready for the next expansion already. But considering that Dominion's key features were focused more on 0.0 some of us *coughcarebearscough* need to look to the future and anticipate wonderful things...hopefully.
As most know, planetary interactions are coming next and is slated for a summer release (may-july). There's not too much that we know will be thrown into the expansion, but here's where we can hypothesize what will be coming.
What we know is coming:
Planetary interaction-----
- Low barrier of entry
- Own regions, develop them (industry, academia, infrastructure) and profit from them
- Interact with other players who own regions around you
- Player actions within their regions can spill into their neighbours
- Care for/enslave/"employ" your citizens
- "It's less about particular units or installations and more about policies, trade agreements and diplomacy by other means..." -Fan Fest 2009, CCP Presents, Timestamp 1:03:39
- Nuke your enemies from orbit (destroying the infrastructure in the process)
- On release of DUST 514, hire DUST players to take your enemy's territory (while keeping the infrastructure intact)
What we know is coming (soonTM) and may or may not be part of the next expansion:
- Alliance Treaties (removed from Dominion for more work, allows alliance to make treaties with other alliances, corps, and even individuals giving them rights within their space to specific things)
- Mining revamp (planetary rings and comets that must be scanned out and contain new resources)
- Fleet Formations (offers many bonuses to ships in formation)
- T3 Frigate series (stated to be the next iteration of Tech 3 that is to be "cheap" and "highly configurable")
- T3 loot (not much out except it'll be a new generation of modules + components and "It's going to be awesome!")
And also expect:
- Random info on Incarna (maybe they'll rename it again!)
- Jovians (Mysteeeerious... And are waiting for the right time to strike.)
So is anybody else excited for the future?! :D NINJA-EDIT: And if I missed anything else, let me know and I'll throw it up!

Considering they confirmed that planetary interaction would be next, it'd be pretty odd to suddenly change their minds. Especially with the tie in to dust. Incarna, however, I would not be surprised if they pushed out of it's current winter slot. - - - Aloriana Jacques - Skill Sheet

Having faith is a wonderful thing. Which is odd really since I've been here for years and I know CCP's track record. But hey, it's not like there's anything else to look forward to I didn't find/list. And some of that is bound to be in the next expansion. Otherwise I'd be really curious as to where they've gone with all of THAT stuff. > . > - - - Aloriana Jacques - Skill Sheet

/me is still waiting for the long fabled "industry expansion".
I'm personally hoping for a mining revamp. ---------- There is always a choice. The choice might not be easy, nor simple, nor the options be what you desire - but, nevertheless, the choice is there to be made. |

Maybe a couple of other tweaks

They said taking care of your regions would be like taking care of your garden.
I have a feeling it might be like Farmville on Facebook.

Except Farmville didn't reward you with iskies for all your hard work. Though we still have to wait on exactly what sort of production we'll be able to do. But it does seem like it would be related to industry, invention, etc. based on their hints. - - - Aloriana Jacques - Skill Sheet

Personally, Im hoping planitary interaction will be a sim city style game. Not a rip off though( as mentioned at fanfest ). Just think about it, DUST players will be on our planets right? So in theory we could be making maps for them. Awesome!

Apparently our interaction won't be so detailed. One of DUST's features is that one person will be given the role to place installations on the map as he sees fit. The map itself is static, but features there can change depending on how we as pilots act on it. IE: Nuking an environment from orbit would reflect a wasteland in DUST. This might cause rivers or lakes to become dry and gain strategic advantage.
It seems like it'll be more macro-management then micro-management. You might be able to tell your police force how brutal to be, for example. It could makes things more secure, but your workers might be unhappy as a result. Requiring you to pump them with gifts and bonuses to make them happy again.
.....I can't wait. >:) - - - Aloriana Jacques - Skill Sheet

While delays and further reconsideration/detailing of new features is to be expected, I think it's pretty fair to say that the major feature goals are staying where they are. Looking at CCPs track record, they've always implemented the major feature additions on the schedule, once they set one that is, even if the initial implementation was nothing to write home about. --------------------------- Only those who surrender are lost |

I hope that next expansion will give us an option to turn off positional sound effects, so that we can enjoy the explosions and turret fire once more.
It is certainly possible, as Baldur said he was interested in doing this. Of course sound has only been messed up for 9 months, Dominion was just too short notice to get such an advanced feature in the game, but perhaps with another 6 months, he may be able to do it.

If they want to make a *lot* of people happy there will be 2 kinds of ships
1. small , directly piloted , Freelancer style , everbody loves this , to draw people in , the hook. 2. large , indirectly , EVE style , argument here is you cant control 8 turrets so the cpu does it.
srsly guys ?

Mining revamp and comets were on the feature list of some expansion like two or three years ago even after the expansion had been deployed :P
I believe in features when they are on SiSi.

What is STRONGLY needed and more than ever in this game is: fixing fleet fights! All the promo video by ccp are cool, but the game is not even far from what you can see in those videos, it's all about blobbing, nothing can change that... or:
Introduce REAL squadrons/teams/wings call them as you like, but make it so that people MUST create smaller groups to fight each other. What i mean is not to reduce the number of people fighting, but having a more tactical and deep fighings.
Example: you can still make huge fleets of 200+ people, but the squads inside it should really be indipendent: the fleet leader should assign a target for every squad, up to a maximum of 2 squads can fight a single target. So you can have dedicated squads and attack an enemy bs team with 2 of your squads, 1 of tacklers and 1 of bs; then the enemy must fight you with an anti-tacklers squad while sending support and so on...
You can then have mixed squad (let's say 5 tacklers + 5 sniping bs, or 1 command + 3 tacklers + 6 dps ships and so on) and solo-pilots that can be assigned like a jolly to support teams (but, being alone, they don't get bonuses from the fleet).
This will mean: less focused fire + more tactics + more fun fights.
It's very hard for me to exlpain this well, like i'd wish to do, expecially becouse of my poor english, but I really hope to see something like this one day.
