Ya, it might drag some new heads into the game, but I bet they wouldn't last once they get over these features and see the core of what makes EVE, EVE.

Think about Incarna as a development project where many developers, money and lots and lots of programming time is poured into. I'm asking myself whether that development time would have been better invested in other things like balancing or something that adds more depth into the game. Somehow I dont think that walking and minigames add more to Eve than shiny graphics and attracting children who whine on forums for some stuff they dont understand yet.
Besides, game developers who want too much often fail. Im thinking of Arma2 for example. Its not like its not being worked on planetary interaction and Dust514 as well. I am skeptical if they can maintain quality by doing that much at once.

Thats where your assumptions can be wrong though you see, I think Incarna is the very definition of depth. Its completely different types of features, and can be leveraged to enrich the game in ways that have no limitations we can currently correlate with. Pew Pewing red crosses isn't going to get any "deeper" in terms of game mechanics I'm afraid. As refactoring those ancient systems would take significantly more work/risk than creating completely new and original game features like Incarna or planetary interactions that supplement Eve as we know her now.
You are also subscribing to a logic that may not be correct, where that, additional new features are automatically at the expanse of work to old ones. We simply don't know if that can be true or not. How do you know the "money" people at CCP wouldn't just lay a bunch of people off and still keep the same specific smaller focused team "polishing and fixing" old content thats doing so now? I'm sorry, but from a business standpoint, its usually typical to spend your resources on progressive new features than the polishing of older shipped ones.

I have to laugh at the idiots who say "if incarta has... dance... fashions... ect. I'm going to quit." There is no requirement to leave thier ships. So when you quit, quite frankly it is to the betterment of eve. If you are that stupid worrying about stuff like that then please leave now.
On an other note, for those of you who don't think Incarta won't bring in a fair amount just because people like avatars, think again. I learned from the Sims that people will pay to just play with avatars doing ordinary things. Now put them in space and I can see a draw so don't write it off.

Why would you be against it? CCP have said that it's not essential for you to go walking, it just offers new opportunity's to those who want to leave the pod once in a while, and benefits, but if you don't want a part of it then so be it, stay in your pod and it's the same game regardless.

Edited by: Scout Ops on 11/01/2010 20:59:06 I have an important question:
- are we needing to redesign our toons? - or on the other hand Incarna will convert our 2D into 3D representations automatically
I hope its the 1st one so we have the opportunity to fix our toons, theres always something u regret of.
But please bring the same style, clothes and backgrounds (incase some of us want to keep current toon as much as possible). Ofcourse include more of them as the current itembase has not been improved from........... never?

When did I say I was quitting?! Am I quitting?! Wish someone told me I was quitting. I wasn't saying that. I got into EVE because it was differen't. Now theres rumor it will be like every other MMO. Even if I don't get out of my ship, theres still going to be WOW asshats ruining EVE. And I only use my pod when my ship gets blown up, I subscribe to the Clear Skies train of thought. I know the official story is the pod of goo crap, but I can imagine whatever the hell I like, it's my $15! You are right, it is better for the company to develop new stuff, but is it really better for the customers? Shiny new avatars will surely attract new people and CCP gets money for that. Doesnt mean that the game gets better though.
I will now say something about World of Warcraft, even with the danger to get flamed just because I mentioned that game. I used to play it in the past, before the 2 addons arrived. Back then, the game felt completely different than it does now. When more and more players started playing, Blizzard tried to please everyone. They made content easier, they took away the "limited to one server" battlegrounds where you knew each other and made a big pool of them. Only brainless masses without teamplay now. They simplified many things, just to please everyone and attract even more people. Right now, WoW is not what it used to be and things like that might happen in the future to Eve as well.
The more new players come, the stronger their voice will be. They might want things that can throw the gameplay overboard. Some people are already complaining that CCP lowered prerequisites to certain skills and professions like exploration. Think about people demanding arenas and no real ship losses. Would you like something like that? Bit drastic, but where money is(new players), CCP might get weak.
And I dont know much about programming but I guess its way more difficult to implement a completely new game mechanic like walking with an avatar in a very old code than improve gameplay aspects of existing things. I hope that Im wrong and Incarna really adds some useful things to the game but the other way is more realistic. It might turn out in some rooms where a crowd jumps around spamming emotes. I lived through that nightmare in WoW already, really dont want it there.

well it should be setup so that as you drink, you temporarily lose more and more sp. then when you fly your ship, it's hard to control and the overview is blurred. but when someone shoots you, your tank drops more slowly because you're feeling so invulnerable; but when you're at half tank you suddenly blow up. all the while, the jukebox is playing "we want fun" by andrew w.k.

You need to read some of the backstory and the novel. The cybernetic implants that makes us pod pilots (Not the attribute ones) allow us to train anywhere anytime. So whether we are in a pod or not we will still train.

If you think a substantial number of people are going to subscribe and stay subscribe to EVE solely because of Incarna, then you are delusional. Incarna will be nice and all, but you'll be bored within a week tops.
I dunno, I could totally see my corp sitting around in an in game bar playing some ingame strategy/card game and getting drunk irl...

One thing I really want to happen is if you are out of your pod, you don't have access to local, and you don't show up on local. This would add an entirely new aspect of tactics and the importance of stations in the game. This would add depth, and make space more dangerous. Not only do you have to check adjacent systems, but you'd have to check the stations for ambushes.
IMO the more options you have in pvp the more indepth the pvp, which is why I like pvp in this game, it's impossible to have the quintessential Ship(Fit), it can always be beaten using tactics.
Fashion and redesigning characters is a great side effect I like the idea of having a private meeting, in the depths of a station. Or pilots waiting for action in there hangers ready to pod-up and undock into action. Plus this would help many peoples problem with local being used as a intel tool, if people in the stations are not in local, you'll never know for sure.
Just my .02 ISK
