Look at all the recent user records. Now imagine if we could step out of our pods and
- visit special agents in stations that arent registered on any networks - gamble together for isk - play strategy games with other players - have a drink - dress up with the latest fashion
Now THAT would drag alot of people into eve. This year would about be the very right time to finally unleash Incarna.....

Edited by: Cyprus Black on 11/01/2010 01:06:09 The lack of avatar representation of players ingame puts off a lot of would-be EvE subscribers. If CCP really knew by how much, Incarna would've been released a long time ago.
That's not a shot at CCP because I really do enjoy this game. It's just that having a physical representation of yourself ingame really means a lot to players. It builds attachment to their characters and achievements.
Representation by spaceships just doesn't cut it for most MMO gamers.
This is going to be one of those things where, after it becomes hugely successful, the devs smack themselves in the forehead and ask why didn't they do this sooner. ___________________________________ "In the land of predators, the lion does not fear the jackal." -Dexter |

You can already get drunk, gamble and play strategy games with other players in EVE...and drinking IRL >>> drinking an imaginary drink and then going har-de-har guys I am drunk har har, I'm so funny.
If you think a substantial number of people are going to subscribe and stay subscribe to EVE solely because of Incarna, then you are delusional. Incarna will be nice and all, but you'll be bored within a week tops.
Originally by: Jim Raynor EVE needs danger, EVE needs risks, EVE needs combat, even piracy, without these things, the game stagnates to a trivial game centering around bloating your wallet with no purpose.

Oh yes fiashionistas! You too can set up your own shops and sell clothing items you have made yourself. Fashion parades, magazines and fashion ads on those little tv screens near gates will become the norm.
Maybe new markets will open up. Like refining frozen corpses to extract sinew with which to weave into the lastest fashion cloth...
Who knows? Who cares? We will all look fantastic darlings!

ok from what we know:
barbie-esque dressup check exotic dancers check mindless violence uncheck drug use (already in the game)
gambling check other awesome things check
thats alot of checks compared to non checks :p

It's just not the same without the mindless violence. How am I to teach people respect if I can't properly have them executed for cutting in line at the local hot dog stand? _____________________ Horrors! Demons in the deep! |

The one and only reason that I have any desire to walk in a station is to find and subsequently beat the ^&%$* out of the docking manager Scotty.

You have NO idea how many ppl don't play this game simply because there's no avatar. I have 5 friends who all tried this game who all didn't want to sub because of lack of avatar. How ever many ppl you can find that don't care I bet I can find 10x more that DO care. ----------------------------------------------- Free Trade Corp - Flash page

This mirrors my experience also. Obviously anyone playing EvE now doesn't care that much about having an avatar. The point is to attract those for whom it is important.
In any case, as I said in the previous thread: EVE needs more things to do than just fly spaceships. Flying spaceships is awesome, dont get me wrong, but that will get old after a while. Incarna isn't just about attracting new players; it's also about enticing old players to stay a little longer.

I cant wait for it, its definately something EVE has been missing....
but.
I like to whine... alot.
And I'd much rather they make the game work properly with the players its got before attracting even more ways to make it crash.

WOW makes billions of dollars over the fact a high proportion of players like to dress their dollies in the latest gear. I know it's weird to the rest of us but the game itself is extremely easy and challenge is not the main reason people play that game anymore. The whole of the last WOW expansion was about that fact which is why some of us left the game for good as all challenge was removed so everyone could dress up the way they wanted with no effort.
EVE has no fluff at all and even a small bit would benefit the game as long as it complements the rest of it rather than replaces.

From everything I have heard they ARE aware of that. (besides its kind of hard for them to miss that point, its aparently brought up that this is a Sci fi MMO where the players are little more than eggs that spatter when poped. . .)
but from what I have read in there opinion
(1) the people who can do both the avatars and and animation of said avatars tend to also have other jobs that are a bit higher in priority
and
(2) the people who have the skills and time have aparently been doing dust. . .
pun intended.
