Mostly taxes are (or should be) used to pay for the stuff the state is responsible for, including state schools, hospitals, public roads, police, etc. Again, some call that 'socialism' but what western country does not have this system? Are we all 'socialist' ?
Exactly - most of W-Europe works that way and we have nowhere near the discrepancy between poor and rich that one can find in the US. But hey, any step in that direction is communism right?

Both nations take taxes from the rich and give them to the poor.
perhaps, just maybe, there are varying degree's of certain things? And perhaps it is necessary to subsidize the poor with a percentage of the profits of the rich to allow capitalism to function?
Perhaps, but what does that have to do with what you quoted?
All 'western' countries I know about have (what germans call) a "social market system" where business is regulated and taxes are taken. These are no doubt to varying degrees, but calling the UK 'socialist' and the US 'capitalist' is a bit silly IMO.
Well it seems I totally misunderstood what you seemed to be inferring.
But to clear things up, my point was that your definition of socialism is required for the continued function of capitalism. But it now seems that you were essentially saying the same thing.

Hey, maybe we can replace the Supreme Court with some of them bears from the circus that walk around on top of big balls and wear funny hats with the tassels.
Sadly, the bear would probably do a better job of things.

One would hope the bears would start with the bureaucrats before their hunger was sated. -Jin Nib Trading on behalf of Opera Noir since: 2009.03.02 03:53:00

How amusing.
So it comes to socialism and capitalism?
We have not had real capitalism since the start of the progressive era. But yet capitalism gets the blame for today's woes.
So the answer, the "other side" says, is socialism.
Socialism - billions to bail out the global banking cartels. Hmmm if we were going to have real socialism, they could have paid off everybody's debts with all that money.
Surely things get worse because of the so-called cure for all that fake capitalism, and the problems from all that fake socialism get the blame. So people will get good and angry and vote in the other other side.
And not get what they were promised.
Things like this make me understand what George Romero was hinting at with his zombie movies - the masses shuffling around, mindless consumers without a clue.

a few months ago, i went to foxnews.com, read an article about how Americans buy more ammunition when a democrat gets into office...
I opened a new tab, went to one of the 'other' news outlets, read an article about how rappers don't rap so much about 'bling' anymore, because there is a black guy in office...

Then i turned on cspan, and fell asleep. |

Fox news is hilarious and Palin is hilarious. Sarah Palin on Fox News should be comedy gold. They should make her their world affairs correspondent.
She could have a weather map to report Russian paratrooper sightings on.

Is Fox News hilarious because their hosts do not advocate voter fraud?

Peace man Peace....
My point was that a person who wants to move can. Ergo complaining about your country and then following it up with the statement "I want to move" is either silly or false. If it really bothers some one that much and they really wanted to move they would do so or be working to do so.
As such when rValdeze (for instance) makes a statement like this I don't really have a problem with it because I get the impression that he really is working to moving away from the things he hates. He says something like "that's why I'm moving away" rather then "I wish I could move." Pr1ncess Alia on the other hand, makes the statement in a more wishful sense trying to garner some form of sympathy for his/her opinion rather then actually giving a truthful representation of their motives.
Dear god I haven't been here in a while. I'm surprised you even remember me.
Yes it is hard to leave the US but not impossible. You can do it, sacrifices are necessary, and it will be hard. Everyone just has to realize that it's easier to come to the US and become a citizen then it is to leave the US and become a citizen of another nation. The US has very easy immigration policies and other countries don't.
General Advice:
If you want to move to another country, say Europe or Japan here's what you need to do. Have all information relating to your identification, family history etc. Get all paperwork and file everything you can in advance while you still live in US. This is to prevent unseen circumstances later. You need to have someone you know in the host country, a lifeline if you will in case things go south. It helps to have a plan b,c etc. You should also have someone left in US in case you have to come back for whatever reason. You will have to read up on visa reqs, and permanent res reqs, they differ by country, and in the case of Japan are pretty strict. (visa req for Japan = 4 year degree or 10 years experience for job they need you for) Japan also reqs a sponsor that is Japanese for permanent residence.
Basically don't get discouraged. It takes a lot of work to move. But you will be glad you did. |

oh also to post on topic...
Yes the US is going down in flames... but the rest of the world won't go down without a fight. I'm depending on the rest of the world to get over the hurdle that is the collapse of a once great nation.
Now the degree of said collapse may vary, but it's already in progress whether you see it or not. American's lives will never be the same (actually a good thing. over consumption is very bad for you, causes many a lot of extra stress with little benefit) America will recover but it will take decades. Hopefully you will all learn from it.
Either way I wish Americans the best |
