I didn't know too much about the game's lore and wish I could change my name to better suit a Caldari character. It's not like the feature can be abused. Even if it could, this game supports people creating characters, infiltrating a corp, stealing, then deleting said character and vanishing without a trace... what harm can a paid name change system do?

Give each character a unique user ID, that is not related to the actual name of the character. Changing the name of the character wouldnt create issues with the unique user ID number and if everything is linked to the unique ID then there wouldnt be problems with finding back stuff from people who have changed their name ? But then again I cant really approve of any of this because this is my signature

It tips people off when trying to scout another toon in etc. Would be nice to pay some cash just to change them. Maybe 1 change per the lifetime of an account, like attribute respec but only once. Id defo change a few of mine.

CCP strives to make this game simular to life but in a futureistc setting. Name changing in the real world is a common thing. CCP is missing an opportunity to make some isk by not allowing that feature. Since unlike the portrate, where the 20.00 seems to be through away moonty as i suspect the whole picture swapping thing is automatic. The name change fee could be used to generate an auto eve mail to all the people in the characters address book alerting them to the name change. Call it a postage fee :)

You don't think they have a user id in their database already? It would be no problem for CCP to keep track of a player with changed name.

Kyra Felann Gallente	Posted - 2010.01.14 23:58:00 - [60] You know, it'd be nice if you could change your name, but it kept record of old names like an AKA list or something similar to how it keeps track of your employment history. Also, if someone adds you to their (buddy?)list, and then you change your name, you'd still show up, and maybe have the old name in parentheses or something. There could also be a timer (6 months? a year?) before you're allowed to change your name, or even only allow it once or twice ever per character. That way, you couldn't completely escape your old identity (which doesn't really matter as much when everyone has a million alts), but if you really hate your character's name, you could change it, or at least the one that shows up on chat windows, while your old name(s) would be in your 'show info' window still.
