I stopped by my research agent for a mission, and he wants viral agent, which is now illegal pretty much everywhere. I tried shifting some viral agent using instas, but got blown up anyway; I was locked/webed/scrambleed before I could enter warp.
Is this a bug with the mission, or do I need to figure out a way to avoid customs agents?
If it's not a bug, anyone got advice on running contraband? Or does bypassing customs officers count as an exploit, the same way bypassing CONCORD does?

Personally, if I was a smuggler and knew how to get around the Customs Agents to get illicit good from one place to another, I'd not share the info but make you pay me to get the stuff where you want it ;)
Finally a Smuggler option in the game, been waiting around for this for over a year... now I still have to wait to get back home, and get ADSL again before I can play :(

Yeah, it would be cool as a smuggler IF there was some warning, IF it wasn't handed out as a standard agent mission.
I had the same thing happen to me, minus the getting blown up part. I can't believe agents are handing out contraband missions. My level 1 creodon agent shafted me on my second mission with this. Didn't even know it was contrband till customs had me warp scrambled...

I don't blame you, I'd say the same if I knew how to bypass customs. At this stage I'm not even sure if it is possible to avoid customs (other than senidng an alt through each gate and finding and unwatched route); I know it isn't with the amount of lag curretly being experienced on TQ. I'll submit a bug report and petition and see what happens.

just lost a condor doing a Caldari mission in Caldari space, I seem to have been fined twice for it too. -- Tranquil Suul

Iteron V with 10MN microwarp. It takes 3 seconds from decloaking to entering warp, and it still wasn't enough.
Remember, NPCs have instant targetting.

What about a covert ops ship that can cloak?

There many new social skills coming in soon, one of them being black market trading, the description of it is as follows:
Skill at fencing contraband. 10% less chance of being caught selling contraband. Base chance 60%.
With that skill you should have higher chance of avoiding customs.

The only problem is there is no real profit margin in smuggeling

Well, I got caught in Caldari space 0.7 system with slaves adn blue pill. I managed to kill the customs agents that had me scrambled and I got away :-) You can still jump out of the system, but you run into a problem if the system you jump into has agents there waiting. Thats where I had to do some killing. My Caldari standing took a big hit, but hey, it was on the test server while the TQ was a full cluster of 0. Spelling corrections welcome, but don't expect me to edit my post. |

That's because lvl4 agents haven't been doing any offers yet. Agents will offer facton items to agent runners with a certain amount of LPs. Some agents may ask for illegal goods and might sweeten the offer if you can come up. Smuggling will be huge as soon as agent runners start to get to this level. |

Not to mention peopel still need to develop way to zaoivd customs. Currently customs consist of enter system, lag, in pod.

I am going to try something tonight to bypass customs. not sure if it will work or not (no it's no a secure can, that's been tried and doesn't work).
I'll let you know here if it is successful, and then I'll be taking orders :-). ========================================= * I'm ALLOWED to cheat. I'm a STARSHIP. * ========================================= |

I think they should keep it for the amusement value of hitting the map, putting on "ships destroyed in last 24 hours" and seeing the whole of empire light up like a Christmas tree.
- Any man's death diminishes me, as I am involved in mankinde; And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; It tolls for thee. |
