As long as they keep it within the gameworld and make it subtle it would be okay. What I don't want to see is the game being polluted by a line of random crap added because of what some guy did in RL. I don't want to see Obama line of charisma implants even if he played EVE and achieve world peace in RL just by talking.
A named speed mod using his(the medallist) name would be just fine though. The point is that a player who doesn't know where the name comes from will think it is just a normal part of EVE and just a random name CCP chose for the module. You could tie it to the actual person and what he achieved in the wiki article for that module, but don't bring that info in to the gameworld.
Also congratz for winning the medal.

I have heard that the gold medals are sterlin silver that are plated with 6 grams of gold. Not sure what the current price is of gold, but I am fairly sure that it is priceless to the owner. Only the most desperate would sell their gold medal.

You realize that this just points out that eve is the only mmo you do not have to play to play. Eves character advancement system is so casual it lets you train for the olympics on the side.
