Ok so the 7th episode of the show aired yesterday and I see OOPD ignores it. Anyone watching it?
It's set in the BSG universe so that's a recipe for awesome. The plot (I think) is really solid and intriguing, even if people know how it all ends. (hint: with nukes :P)
All in all it could even be as good as BSG or even :gasp!: be better! :o
Opinions?

Cool, I didn't have any idea how it is supposed to end so thanks very much for the (hint).
As for it being better than BSG, I doubt it as I have seen a number of episodes of BSG and the script and characters seem to be much better than in Caprica, although thats not a put down for Caprica. When the show finished I will be watching BSG from start to finish as I have always wanted to properly watch it.
Some of the characters seem lifeless, like they go along with the script and job done rather than letting the audience connect with them (if that makes any sense). Overall though I am enjoying it and am looking forward to more episodes, don't think it will be a classic show though and it will probably only get one season or two if it's lucky.
edit: Also do not know if want. She is hot but mildly annoying at the same time. . Alliance Creation Service |

How can you have watched BSG and not know how Caprica ends? You do realise Caprica is a prequel to BSG, right? ____________________

Compared to BSG its meh. Ive watched most of the episodes but my interest is slowly waning.
Its interesting to see how it ties in with BSG, like why the Cylons believe in one god but its starting to reach the point where its basically Coronation Street in the BSG Universe.
Id much rather watch Adama and Tigh fighting in the first Cylon war, thats what BSG is.

Watched most so far, haven't decided yea or nay
Biggest concern is that the writers trying to tie in too much BSG to where the whole show becomes one big fan blowjob
"Yeah, so we add in young roslin too, and then her and adama meet and THEY BECOME FRIENDS WHEN THEY'RE KIDS but then they forget! And the greystones wind up being baltar's parents somehow and <other unnecessary tie-ins>" _____________________ Horrors! Demons in the deep! |

I did say I have only watched a number of BSG episodes and that I want to watch BSG through properly. An yes I realise that Caprica is a prequel to BSG, that's why I am waiting for Caprica to finish before I watch through all the BSG episodes. I know most people who are watching Caprica already have a good idea on how the series will end which is why I didn't rage when I saw the spoiler, just not everyone has seen BSG. . Of course its gonna be better than BSG. Why you may ask? Well, BSG fell flat on its face. I watched the first two episodes and the last two and pretty much predicted the rest of the show. Pretty much any other show can beat that. Except maybe Caprica.

Also, what's with everything being sci-fi and futuristic and whoop, there comes and camera that seems to be from the thirties.

I'm not disagreeing with you, I honestly cannot understand what you just wrote. I can see no way of parsing that statement in a way that makes it make sense. ____________________

Sorry, a bit tired. What was trying to say is that sometimes, in Caprica, they mix old technology with futuristic technology, like cameras. It's just a gripe I had with the series
I also find that the story is going nowhere, maybe it's just me.

I don't know but have wondered the same myself. With all the futuristic stuff like commercial space travel, virtual reality headsets and other advanced technology it's weird that people drive around in old style cars, old style cameras and such. One thing that I did wonder was if they have used the old theme along with futuristic theme to give the viewers the feeling that it is taking place before BSG, rather than just telling people that it's before BSG. As weird as it is I quite like it. . Alliance Creation Service |

The Irony is, is that Caprica still has more Sci-Fi action than Stargate Universe. Sigh. ## You got that? Right I'll be back in approximately 300 seconds to retort! ## |

I haven't seen Caprica since the whole concept of it dosen't appeal to me, but BSG is imo easily one of the best sci-fis to hit TV. It just makes no sense at all if you miss some episodes. I'm watching the whole thing through again ATM, and it's even better than the first time in some ways.

that's not saying much really. Eastenders probably has more sci-fi action than Stargate Universe

I think I'd rather just leave BSG up there on the pedestal where I left it to rest safely until I next take it down and run through it.

What's wrong with them using cameras? I mean, how are they supposed to take any pics and stuff? :o

This for me aswell. Lately I've been rewatching BSG with directors commentary. Quite interesting sometimes in what bits were his ideas, what bits were actors taking initiative and what bits he seems to just make up as he goes along. Also whole plots being changed because they didn't have the budget etc.

Caprica is ok, pity it doesn't explain its universe a bit bit more. You are pretty much thrown into a new universe with vague references, as if you have always lived there always and should know better.
I'm not a bit fan of this monotheistic movement, tying in terrorism is freaking tedious too.
Yes, we all know America got hit by terrorism, yes, it affected you, but do you really have to wedge it into virtually everything sci-fi related.
Caprica is a love hate thing for me, it teases and hints that it may become something great. I'll sit it out for a bit longer and see where it ends up.

Edited by: Dravius Luxor on 15/03/2010 14:24:38 I like this show very much. Unlike most tv shows these days you have absolutely no idea what to expect, the fact it's set in the BSG universe is a bonus!
People like myself look for sci-fi tv shows as a delivery mechanism for their sci-fi hit... and this one does the job great. Alternate universe, futuristic technology, believable (and hot) characters, myth, and some sinister parallels with the real world. Lovely. Oh, and Eric Stoltz!
Edit: Why all the hate for SGU? It's f***ing awesome! I think some people have set their standards a little high.

Ah, Caprica, the ~2030 looking sequel for the show that did not have any advanced weapons, and yet had artificial gravity.
BSG was a show with a hell of a lot of potential and some of the worst use of said potential ever, coupled with my two most annoying character picks in the history of TV (Baltar and Starbuck), I skimmed through IIRC two episodes of Caprica and gave it a "meh, its worse than 4th season BSG".

getting caught up in technobabble to explain everything is done already, watch star trek for that. BSG ignored it completely and imo the show was better for it.

I was rather trying to point out the internal inconsistency of this. You know, verisimilitude is essential to any storyarc and setting.
