I have a Drake with Arbalest rocket launchers and a whole bunch of fittings to increase fire rate. I have the fire rate down to 1.74 seconds each. The problem is that this makes rockets TOTALLY useless. When you fire a rocket, it can only travel 1.74 seconds before disappearing because the next rocket in the same launcher fires. Basically, unless i am practically sitting next to an enemy, i couldnt hit them at all!! This reduction of travel distance due to increased fire rate seems to be counter productive. A smaller ship, while doing less damage per volley/shot, should still have the ordinance travel the specified distance that it should and NOT be affected by the fact that theres another rocket up its rear end!. Is there anything that can be done or could someone look into this problem... I think a drake with 7 arbalests @ 1.74 sec rof, would look awesome firing a machinegun-like trail of rockets across a few kilometers of space rather than a few metres... Something to inspire n00bs with outside a station in a mock team battle. If we learned from our mistakes... i would be a genius by now.... |

ignoring the fact that a rocket drake is totally useless. you might consider a ham drake which is a beast.
anyway here we go ...
ham tengu has a ROF of 1.93s. that means even over 10km distance the second volley is out before the first hits, and yes really both hit. it might be a problem of the graphics that you dont see the first missile anymore. or they really burned out before hitting the target as the drake doesnt have any range bonus and the standard range of rockets is ... well short.
and please get rid of the rocket launcher on your drake. that is just blasphemy.

...Wtf? If a ship shoots a missile just because there is another one from the same launcher doesn't mean the first that was fired should disappear!
If you shoot a bunch of rockets in a few seconds from 1 module they should all hit their target regardless!

There's some kind of bug or glitch involved with this. I've had multiple volleys in space with my Drake with no problems. The second volley started firing before the first missile in the first volley hit, there were no issues with it.
If I had to guess, flight time was shorter than the weapon's rate of fire.

rockets should have like 3s flight time with decent skills. so i doubt that was the issue. but without the excerpt from the log it is hard to tell if really some volley didnt hit.

Edited by: Ignatzmaximov on 17/03/2010 18:07:19 My rocket Drake is purely for show, sorta like a mobile fireworks display and is NOT intended for any real use, so please dont get upset by its existence. I have more than one drake so i made a rocket firing one for laughs. The problem of having the first rocket disappear and NEVER reach its max flight distance due to the next rocket being fired from the same launcher, has been a problem for the last year or so. I keep hoping they would fix this in each patch but it doesnt happen. I have had new installs of EVE on my machine due to various hardware or software upgrades and or failures but this (rocket) problem does not change, they still travel a couple of inches across the screen and disappear. There is NO hit/miss notifications whatsoever. They just cease to exist when the next rocket is fired.

This sounds like a bug to be honest. Rockets aren't supposed to dissapear just because the next volley's out.

Rockets are very short ranged (well anything except T2 javelins are). Why you have to be right on top of them to hit.
What are you missile support skills like? Specfically range and speed boosts? If low...boost them up. EFT your fit, will show you your range. Stay in it. Or get up to t2 and run javelins...do give some range.
Just some advice for the drake....warrior II's are nice frigate killers, them highs are screaming for heavies lol. Make them happy (points for a unique drake fit given though lol).

That's really weird. Has anyone else been able to repeat that result? My missile boats will routinely have two or three salvos in space at once and I've never heard of a missile vanishing as the module cycles. I'm guessing your observation is faulty, but I don't think I've ever tried it first-hand with rockets, so I don't have an example of this not happening. |

No observation faults here. The rockets just disappear. Rockets L4 and all supporting missile skills are either L5 or L4 so its not my skills causing the problem. Besides, when the person i am firing at also sees the rockets go poof then its NOT my error. If we learned from our mistakes... i would be a genius by now.... |

Have you tried, oh I dunno, filing a bug report? In the last year or so? This isn't known issues and work arounds, this is F&I.
Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you're kinda wasting your time here.

Edited by: Ignatzmaximov on 28/04/2010 15:23:00 I have filed reports. i have spoken to god. i have complained to the beggar on the corner. i petitioned the governor. i have done the sacred mumu dance in the pale moonlight. This is a forum... i am NOT wasting my time here. I can post ANYTHING i want, its not for you to say if its a waste of time or not. You are wasting my time with your comment. I would like ANYONE to fit a rocket launcher and test it to see if they get the same result. All i am hearing is that "its a bug" or whatever, but i am not hearing anyone saying they tested it out for themselves. If its a bug then its ONLY happening to MY character cos it happens on my laptop too. Explain that genius... Also... this is F&I... i featured this problem here so it might be an idea to test it yourself... If we learned from our mistakes... i would be a genius by now.... |

I've seen individually launched missiles group up, i.e. you press F1 - F7 and 2-3 groups of missiles fire instead of seven. This _may_ be what you're seeing.
What you can do is test fire a load of rockets into a stationary target (such as an alt or a warp-in beacon or asteroid,) and then check the logs to see if all the rockets hit, if they grouped up, or if some are actually disappearing.
On Vista, the game logs are in in %userprofile%\Documents\EVE\logs\Gamelogs, where %userprofile% is normally c:\windows\<your_user_id>. In-game, you can click on the Accessories -> Log to view the log.
Since you and the target are stationary, all the rockets should do the same damage. If you see entries with double damage, then the rockets are grouping up. You're still doing full damage.
