Edited by: Hungry Eyes on 20/03/2010 03:11:27 if this game turns out ok, will you be leaving eve for it?
if the game has a reasonable amount of depth and immersion, as well as updates, i can see people switching over. let's face it, not many games will ever have the depth eve does, however BP is pretty much the space game many have been waiting for. one thing that's bothered me about eve has always been the clicking, and the automatic warping from point A to B to C. another thing is that the ships are way too big. you dont get to play the "fighter", so the environments weren't designed for it. sure, inties are fast, but you never really zoom through stations or past massive ships. the environment just wasnt designed for dog-fighting.
BP reminds me of Independence War and Freelancer 2, which were epic and skill-based. plus, wait for it. wait for it. joystick. what up! pew pew pew. |

You go ahead and play with your joystick - we'll be right there soon. No really, go ahead, leave.

Yes because Free To Play (read: pay me lots of extra $$ per month so you can get the uber equipment/stat bonuses) is such a good idea. (Sorry Siig, I had to)

There never was a freelancer 2.
If by chance you mean freespace 2, then you speak heresy.

I did not know a damn thing about this game until you mentioned it. But this simple word you spoke where more than enough for me to say I will never leave EVE over it! Heck, I would not even give up playing Ludo over that blody game!

Is this that game that looked somewhat promising then announced it was going to be free to play thus insuring it will suck?
No.

I'm gonna keep holding my breath for JGE.
On second thought, that's probably not the best idea....still. I'll check out BP since its free to play, no loss. > WHILE SIG<AWESOME DO LOOP there is no escape from my crappy sig. |

playing a free mmo can be harmful to you because every now and then you find one thats actually not that bad and only ruined by the fact that its free.
you then become sad and depressed at the lost potential.
Its best to just avoid them i find.

It's possible, but I'd like to think I have a chance since they'd actually have to aim at me! And even if they get me, jebus it would be so much fun getting into dogfights. > WHILE SIG<AWESOME DO LOOP there is no escape from my crappy sig. |

Edited by: Hungry Eyes on 20/03/2010 04:42:48 yes, f2p's usually suck...but BP just looks so damn good. i have a hunch they'll just do microtransactions, or paid DLC's or something. i think they should just release it as a normal game for $50 bucks, then add DLC's for multiplayer.
in any case, what out there right now in the trailers looks very promising. cant wait to do some space dog fighting again, zoom around space hulks, and inside stations. in some ways, it puts eve to shame, but does it have staying power that remains to be seen.
and no, this isnt a leaving thread, or an eve is dying thread. at all. im just curious to see if anyone is excited about this space sim/rpg. i know there are a lot of I-War, Freelancer and X3 fans in eve. and a lot of us play eve just due to poor selection of multiplayer space games on the market atm.

With BP now being released under a F2P model I will have to watch how it does in Beta.
On the BP forums, we had the opportunity to ask questions to the developer and publisher on their forums. We're waiting to hear back. That should answer a lot of the questions we have about what is going to be the future of the game.

Direct ship control was the thing I missed most, when starting Eve, after all I joined a space MMO because I was a fan of the Wing Commander game series. I don't know much about Black Prohecy, only seen a couple of trailers on Youtube but it seems that you need to fly manually and can directly control the ships there, have dogfights etc. If this game gives me the feeling of the Wing Commander universe, I'll definitely try it, but won't have to quit EVE for this, since EVE is a game that pays and plays itself all alone(passive isk income per month > plex price) _____________________________________________________ My skills // Faction Standings: Serpentis +8.02 / Angel Cartel +9.24 / Gallente Federation -10.00 |

WoW's got some pretty awesome trailers too, lets all go play that game, o wait...
trailers are 'easy' to make, dont EVER judge a game on its trailers

The only way I'd be interested in that game is if it had a ship spin feature that was better than eve's
Can I be docked bull****ting in corp chat/vent for an hour and logging off?
Can I make monies when I am not playing the game?

Edited by: Mutnin on 20/03/2010 07:04:17 I've been watching that game's progress and I'm sure I'll give it a try just for the hell of it. The graphics are nice and it seems fairly fast paced in the PVP side, but the flight model looks too arcade like to me.
I come from WW2 flight sim style gaming and I'm all about actually flying the ships and having to actually pilot your ship. I do miss that and the fact that eve is more about clicking on a screen combined with "training" skills.
The biggest problem I see is the fact they are allowing 3rd person view. I've seen it in other games and if 3rd person view is enabled then everyone will have to fly in that view or they will be at the disadvantage.
The guys flying in first person will not be able to see as much during combat and will put them at a major disadvantage. They would need to force force First Person View to get me interested.

Looks good, but not enough to leave eve. Also I really dislike instanced games.
will check it out when it comes out but I don't even know where any of my joysticks are.

I am old. SOO old. I joined Eve in Aug 2003 hoping it would be Elite / Frontier MMO and it is, except without the joystick control. Eve is good, great even, but I would dearly love to be able to fly properly. I am so desperate I still have a Tie fighter installation on an xp32 system to give me the direct control fix I need.
So I obviously look up any space based MMO to see what it might offer, and BP looks to me like a very pretty space combat flight sim. It has no relation at all to Eve though. It looks more like WoW in space to me. So I might have a look to enjoy a bit of direct control flight, but that's probably it.
JGE if it were to ever happen, which has never seemed likely since I first heard about it, might be competition for eve, but there is a major problem with a twitch based interface & that is lag and server load. We won't see a single shard twitch based MMO for many many years yet I'm afraid.
As for third person view - in Sturmovik you can specify on the server whether it is allowed or not & all the servers I ever flew on it was verboten, thankfully. What's the point in flying a realistic flight sim from behind the plane ?

Screen-shots look good. Trailer looks extremely good. But all new games have good screens/trailer.
F2P method is almost always fail. It's usually charges you more money than a subscription model just to access areas and buy necessary goods or it only charges only for fluff items and that cannot keep a company afloat.
Won't be leaving eve for it, and I probably will forget to even try it.
Originally by: Jim Raynor EVE needs danger, EVE needs risks, EVE needs combat, even piracy, without these things, the game stagnates to a trivial game centering around bloating your wallet with no purpose. |

Eh, it looks okay. The problem is, I've always preferred capital ships to fighters, so back when I played Tie Fighter over a decade ago, I'd drop out of lightspeed, spot a Victory Star Destroyer or the like, and wish I was piloting that. EVE gives me that chance, or at least as close to it as I'm going to come.

Exactly. EVE isn't "missing" dogfighting, it is just a large-scale slower and more strategic game with big ships. Dogfighting in EVE is left to drones.
EVE fills a niche nicely, IMO, for people who like the spaceship pewpew without the twitchy fighter jet sim feeling.

From FAQ:
"Yes, Player vs. Player combat will play a big role in Black Prophecy. You will be able to engage other players in different kinds of PvP missions and battlegrounds. Player vs. Player combat will also be an essential part of the game’s endgame content."
PVP mission? like instanced PVP? No thanks :)
Besides its nothing like EVE at all, its just a new Freelancer.
I might try it since I liked freelancer, but if it got crappy PVP its not worth a monthly sub.
But leveing EVE for it? no. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
