It looked good until they went F2P. When that happened I lost all interest. ---------------------------------------- "Memories are meant to fade. They're designed that way for a reason." |

No, instanced gameplay will never compare to a true MMO experience like EVE: Online. I've seen freespace and black prophecy and they're the same, so far I've wondered if EVE would have a contender... But, everytime a new space MMOG is announced, eve is always on top. I've played STO, it had a lot of hype and people defending it to the death when people started to say it was WoW in space. But I think most people are aware now that Cryptic were just out to get money from people.

Trying it: most definitely! I miss using my FCS in a space sim.
Leaving EVE: are you out of your mind? Stuff stays in my possession. ____________________

I'm sure I'll check it out, especially since it's f2p. I have a personal rule, only one paid MMORPG at a time. (sorry WoW) It does look completely different from EVE, what with all that dog-fighting.

looks like it could be fun, F2P sucks though, as all it usually means is all the best ships/weapons/gear is stuff you have to pay for. Hope I'm wrong though

The devs have all announced that anything a paying player can get, a free player can get also, just takes longer I'm assuming.

Sounds like boss camping and rare drops to me.
The only game that has a chance to pull me away from eve is World of Darkness online.
Eve is totally unique and after playing it all other online games just seem **** to me. They all just seem to be following the same damn pattern. Compare almost any two MMORPGs and you'll find that they are essentially the same stupid time sink.
And "free to play" games are the worst of the worst. That alone will keep me well away from this game... unless it's like wing commander and corps get to have their own carriers.

Yeah I've noticed this myself, I can't play other MMO's without them feeling a bit dead in comparison, (damn you CCP!) which is a good thing IMO, as it does help break the MMO trend. That said, I will try BP as it is free, and probably enjoy it whilst I learn it, and then abandon it for some reason or another. I agree though, F2P games tend to be of low quality, but it'll be interesting to try out.

Since its going to be a free game, I may play it every now and again just for the variety, but I probably won't get into it.
Just from watching the gameplay trailer on Youtube it looks like WoW in space. I don't know exactly how you level up in the game, but the trading, movement, and player interaction aspects look very much like WoW. There is a little dash of EVE thrown in for good measure however, but its mostly just that the ships fitting window looks semi-similar, and their ships seem to be more along the lines of what T3 ships are for us currently.

I far prefer large ships and tactical combat to dogfighting in space fighters. So you can keep your joystick and whatever this game is you're talking about (which I've never heard of).

seems easy to get into
dog fighting
it seems to be skills based, with the aiming and all. something eve will never be unfortunately
environment is many fold more interesting
doubt it will have the economy and crafting depth of eve, but it's an arcadey space sim. as people have already mentioned, the f2p may ruin it. but we'll wait and see.
as for the "leaving" part, i dont necessarily mean unsubscribing, but maybe spending more time over there instead. it's doubtful i'll unsub

I don't see anything better on screenshots or in the gameplay videos. I lie, BP has engine trails. However, even with all the dated nebulae backdrops EVE's 'space' and planets still look better or similar at the very least. The plethora of 'space fog' visible in the BP media makes it look worse. EVE's stations look much better.

You mean it's a different game with twitch controls, instant gratification, and instanced 'environments'? Which part actually "puts eve to shame"?

Black Prophecy could fill a big niche for many of us who want a decent space shooter that has a twitch interface. With quick action. Played EVE for 5 years myself and i am going through a bored period with it.

Welp, be careful with this. D&D Online is now F2P as well and THEY SAY that you can do everything a paying player can, it just takes a bit longer to do. This is true, however, this usually means there is going to be some sort of reputation system that actually matters. The more reputation you get, the more "points" you get that you can spend on certain instances, items, etc. Alternately, you can buy points directly for a low price every now and then. I bought some points for like $6 to get a specific instance in D&D Online but that's it. It's either subscribe, buy points, or grind your way to a high reputation where they'll give you points for ever time you up your rep.
Technically it will be possible to do it, but you'd probably get bored of grinding the same missions over and over.

In terms of visuals, it's jaw dropping and completely stunning.
In terms of gameplay, by the sounds of it I'd have more fun playing Russian roulette with a Glock 17.

BP's planets and stations look a lot better in my opinion. the stations seem to have a purpose within the tactical environment, and youre a lot close to them. i was never able to feel immersed in eve's environment. all the POS buildings look tacked on, you cant use asteroids for cover, there arent any indoor areas a la descent 3 (may be more realistic, but not more fun). the "tactical" environment in eve is just a calculation and limited to wormholes; so being inside a nebula doesnt mess with your targeting or limit your visibility. in other words, it's a point and click MMO; there's your ship, and empty pointless space.

oh absolutely. i said it puts eve to shame in some ways. i mean, twitch + space is oldschool. eve did two things right: 1) it's a great economical simulator 2) there are lots of things to do. and i'll take my instant gratification over waiting for 30 days so i can fly a ship.
now this is just my opinion. ive been craving an online space sim. eve is just an MMO, a good one at that. but the pvp gameplay is mediocre.
