If you're like me, you're fed up with the constant bickering of blasters vs autos vs lazors, which one is better, yada yada. Recently, I myself have been trying to decide which guns to put on my myrm. It's blasters for now, as I'm still working on the skills for projectiles. So I decided to dig up EVE's old damage calculator thing, and played with the numbers.
First off, this is the fitting I used for my test myrm to run the numbers.
[Myrmidon, PewPew] Damage Control II Damage Mod II Damage Mod II Damage Mod II Tracking Enhancer II Tracking Enhancer II
10MN MicroWarpdrive II Large Shield Extender II Large Shield Extender II Invulnerability Field II Warp Disruptor II
Biggest Short Range Weapon that Fits II, Close Range Faction Ammo Biggest Short Range Weapon that Fits II, Close Range Faction Ammo Biggest Short Range Weapon that Fits II, Close Range Faction Ammo Biggest Short Range Weapon that Fits II, Close Range Faction Ammo Biggest Short Range Weapon that Fits II, Close Range Faction Ammo Biggest Short Range Weapon that Fits II, Close Range Faction Ammo (shield gank ftw)
I would argue that this is as impartial as a fitting as you can use for a test like this. If anyone sees a reason why this wouldn't be the case, let me know. I then compared the biggest Autocannons (425mm), Blasters (Electrons), and Lasers (Mediums) that would fit. Lasers actually require some CPU implants, (I'm already using a -3% turret CPU and +1% ship CPU, these are dirt cheap. Everyone should have them). These numbers are assuming your target has a scan resolution of greater than 125 (cruisers and above, MWDing frigates). Anyways, without further ado, the results.
Damage against ships of 125 Signature Radius at varying transversal velocities. Blasters = Green Autocannons = Red Lasers = Blue
Transversal = 0
Transversal = 500
Transversal = 1000
Transversal = 2000
Use the numbers on the right hand side for an absolute comparison of damage being dealt between guns/transversals.

I would recommend including damage for the t2 long range ammo: That is a big plus point for lasers, especially considering that switching ammo types is instant for them. Any turret comparison that ignores scorch isn't at all useful IMO: Blaster T2 ammo is largely useless (unless you're in a rohk), while scorch with its instant switch is very useful, and barrage is somewhere inbetween (but definitely still very useful).

what chatgris said, if you could do the graphs again but include t2 long range ammo, merge the graphs so it always shows the highest dmg output of either close range faction or t2 long range, instead of doing sepereate graphs for each ammo type. That would be very helpfull

Comments: - Eve's old damage calculator is deeply flawed in that it doesn't properly account for the hit quality penalty found in falloff. - Stacking the odds so hard by comparing 425s to Electrons/FMP is PURE FAIL. - Comparing the weapons on unbonused platforms is pretty fail. Weapons don't exist in a vacuum, and shouldn't be treated as such. Please use ships that have bonuses for the weapons if you want to argue for or against boosts. - Certain damage ranges are more important than other ranges. For instance, anything under 13km is within web range, and anything outside of 30km is outside of point range (as a rule). - Ignoring damage types and any cap use will ultimately lead to failure of the comparison - despite the fact that cap use is *largely* a non-issue.

Lots of work, respect.
However, "I then compared the biggest Autocannons (425mm), Blasters (Electrons), and Lasers (Mediums) that would fit. "
This is a fairly arbitrary pick of weapons. The fact if it fits shouldn't be your primary concern, because the fitting requirements of weapons don't exist in a vacuum; different ships have different grid/cpu. You've ended up comparing the highest damage medium autocannon, to the lowest damage medium blaster, and you even used a fitting implant for the laser. The results are mudied.
You should seriously consider using the weapons that match each other. After all, a pilot could choose to stick in a fitting mod and use neutrons, and get better results then those you parse, while the autocannon user is 'maxed out' so to speak. The laser results are already mudied by letting go of your 'if it fits' requirement; after all, it only fits with an implant.

dont use blasters... blsters suck... between lasers and projectiles... id put lasors, pulse... on active armor tanked i put projectiles, but on shield buffer i put lasers... either way, between pulses and autos it will depend on situation, but id say they are about equal... just dont use blasters...
btw, dont use only shortrange ammo, long range ammo is there for a reason... |

Null is good, just not in medium guns.
Small guns have the range of a pointy stick w/ antimatter, approaches that take you to antimatter optimal without a massive overshoot or taking forever are usually not feasible. And even warping in at zero the target will still almost always be several kms away unless they're literally sitting still - hence the approach, short as it is, must still be considered. Getting to optimal and staying there until someone explodes is the most useful skill any blaster pilot possesses.
Large guns (well, OK, neutrons on a Megathron) do solid damage all the way out to point range with Null, which is important at gates and/or in RR fleets.
Medium guns the difference between AM and Null optimals isn't enough to warrant using Null - it still can't hit at point range and the extra range it does give you is outside the post-approach engagement envelope, you can get 1 extra volley off over antimatter if for some reason you're not at 0 when the fun starts but medium antimatter performs solidly within scram/web range so Null generally isn't useful.

lulz at all the people misunderstanding the op. He is trying to figure out what the best guns would be to fit on his myrm and not settle the age old argument of which is better period.. His first sentence was simply a statement aimed at all the hair trigger blowhards who poast a couple of paragraphs of flaming bias about stuff with no attempt to show proofs. /me waits for merin to poast his hurricane fit called [Mrym, PVP]

You can never be too careful with stealth whines. Asking for fitting advice rarely includes (wrong) graphs and such. :)

Normally I would agree with you and have very much enjoyed the ensuing carnage when you and others bomb the thread but this really just looks like some guy wanting to figure out which guns to use on his myrm. I think it was the combination of the first sentence and linked eft graphs that triggered the false positive this time because as you say its rare anyone bothers to go to all that trouble here and not be a troll. =)

Edited by: Marko Riva on 23/03/2010 00:55:56 Edited by: Marko Riva on 23/03/2010 00:55:25 On the whole there's more to it than just damage, also the fact that projectiles have an easy fitting and don't use cap. Without (having to) look at stats or diagrams; autocannons are your best option.
