Most suicide gankers are experienced, older, organized players using throw away characters. YOU know this, I know this. To train a char to fly in a bs after 20 days requires dedicated training, just for a bs, nothing else. Genuine new player wouldn't do this because that bs pilot will be good for nothing but undocking in his ship and, yes, ganking haulers in high sec. It's most likely a throw away alt of some "leet" PvPer. But strange that he'd fallen for 38 mill. Well, may be his main has some ISK problems? Who knows...

Cambarus The Compass Reloaded	Posted - 2010.03.26 10:53:00 - [52] While everyone here's busy throwing mud at each other, I'm just going to sneak in and make 2 quick points: 1) There are already several ways to make yourself nearly immune to all but the most targeted suicide ganks, which should be doable anyway. a jita insta, proper autopilot settings and and istabs to name a few. 2) The op may have only been moving 38mil worth of stuff, but he was doing it in an 800k hauler, that can literally be flown within 15 minutes of character creation (well maybe not depending on the hauler, but the point is t1 haulers are the hauling equivalent to frigates). You have no business complaining about suicide ganking when you carry ~40 times the value of your ship in its cargo and still fly a ship that takes barely any skills to fly. I just don't get why people insist on looking at a hauler, that has the same rough cost and skill investment as a frigate, and think hmmm, I guess this is completely adequate for hauling the belongings of someone who's been playing for months/years and is worth 10s, if not hundreds of millions of isk... If you're not willing to train up for/pay for a tech II hauler/orce/freighter, then at least accept that it's your fault that you won't be as good at the many aspects of hauling (like keeping the cargo from going boom to some suicide ganker)

Currently, as has been stated, it is profitable to suicide gank even if the target has no cargo at all. Insurance frauded ships turn a profit from blowing up, so instead of pressing self destruct to make a profit, might as well suicide gank. It is highly annoying that CCP is so slow on fixing a broken game mechanic. The lowering of the insurance payouts may or may not work. If mineral prices adjust, we are back to the good old problem.

Gankers aren't the problem, people who transport more than 20 times the cost of a ship in its cargohold are. Hell, I'd argue that undocking in a ship carrying more than TEN times its worth in cargo is grounds to make you a valid target. Invest in something not so fragile, follow a few very basic steps to ensure your safety, and, unless someone is out to get you specifically, you WILL ensure your safety. That being said, I wouldn't mind if they removed insurance from suicide ganking...provided they make it possible in a .5 to gank the 800k haulers people keep bringing around with an 800k destroyer
