As the title says, what do you think is the most well designed ship in EVE, meaning the one that does it's intended job the best, without being overpowered?
Personally, I think it has to be the Vagabond; it's a fast ship with a layout that perfectly meshes with the 'standard' nano fit and still has decent range and damage, topped off with the right drones for the job and a medium neut. To me, it just seems to be perfect for its role.

Well, i'd have to say the best designed ship is the Rifter. It is a quick, well armed frigate that can tackle or fight equally well. Plus, none of the good fits require faction modules or anything else god-awfully overpriced. |

I think the rifter does not fit well with the rest of the frigates, it stands out in just about every aspect, I consider it a "T 1,5 frigate".
The Incursus might be a better approximation. It works as intended, and is pretty to look at.

Yer, arbitrator is nice, can do lots of things with it. Abaddon is my favorite though, very easy to fit without cpu and grid problems, unless you try to squeeze on beams, which the apoc was designed for however. -

Hurricane or rifter
Hurricane is a slugger that is essential to any fleet or mission runner's arsenal, yet stays fast and agile despite the powerwful guns fitted to it
Rifter is a fast hitter capable of taking on enemies three times its size and winning.

Noobship. Carries noobs and doesn't overpowered at all.
So finely tuned for its task that it can even respawn (in a station) in certain instances, but does not adversely affect game balance. -

Edited by: Ka choop on 26/04/2010 09:34:21 I'd say the Orca is the best designed ship. It's a jack of all trades: First ofcourse a mining booster. but also: -minifreighter. -shipmover. -repairship. -fitting ship. -mobile base. -can also boost with the other links without the high training time for command ships. -legal target during Hulkageddon.
And relatively easy to get into.

- Can fight close range - Can fight long range - Can RR gang - Can run missions - Nice dronebay for versatility - Cost effective - Looks badass
Thorax is my favorite cruiser but I would say the Vexor is better designed, more useful, and looks better.
Then I would say the Tristan is also a very interesting looking frigate, the FatBoy. It can also close or long range fight, not a very fast ship but decent general purpose frigate. Then again, incursus being my favorite but not necessarily better designed.

The tengu. Normaly i would say stratigic cruisers in general because they are their names, a cruiser based on a players strategy. But the tengu seems to be the most well known ship(at least where I am in EVE) and it can fufill both that PVE and not so much though, PVP roll. Choose your weapon... its weapon systems, the weapons itself, its targeting, speed and agility, defences, and how you want her to run! I think that fits the name 'stratigic cruiser' well.
But if im going to get a slap in the face for this im going to have to say rifter.

I'm quite certain that the Augoror is the most exquisitely-designed ship in EVE. I am certain of this because, after almost three years, I still haven't figured out what its creators intended. Surely this is a sign of their near-Da-Vinci-level ingenuity; the complexity of their design evades even formidable minds like mine.

Edited by: BeachParty on 28/04/2010 17:19:14 The Blackbird is an all-time great. It is simply one of the most useful ships any new pilot can jump into. As your Electronic Warfare skills evolve the variety and complexity of the blackbirds roles blossoms nicely allowing the pilot to experience career-growth within the ships intended role for an extended period of time. At full skills the Blackbird fulfills 80-90% of the falcons' real-word usefulness @12MISK. allowing the pilot to fly this little EWAR machine with reckless abandon.
As for the Vegabond, it appears to be a favorite snack for the Blackbird with its low sensor strength. consider yourself jammed disrupted and webbed before you can even deploy the drones.

The Harbinger.
It is great for PvP and PvE. I use it extensively for low sec exploration. Nice damage, can field 2 flights of light drones, can buffer it or fit a decent active tank. If you bring a Harbinger to a gang, nobody will tell you to go away. Not quite as mobile as I would like, but overall I think it is a fantastic ship.

Rifter/Rupture/Cane is probably the best progression of ships in the game. You can argue each one is at the top of it's respective class for PvP and PvE. They have a variety of fitting options and since the Arty changes can fit for distance as well as close in brawlers. They are insurable, have selectable damage, and can do shield or armor tanking depending on the situation. All in all hard combinations to beat.
Honorable mentions are the Arbitrator and Vexor. The Arby is extremely versitle thanks to its EWAR and Drone bay, while the Vexor is a better fighting ship. A cruiser fleet of Ruptures, Vexors, and Arbitrators is a wonderful thing for cheap, effective small gangs.

They make great cyno ships when you are hopping across systems without a station.
I hate this question the OP proposes because I think this thread could go on for years and still wouldn't have a resolution. Many people voting for ships never flew the sister ships of the other races therefore their vote is biased.
However... I'll bite anyway.
Drake = best designed ship in the game. Cheap, versatile and easy to get into.

but i hafta agree some of its fiting like CPU maximixer sub (dont know what it called) really makes the tengu looks crap.
but so far my subsystem fit makes my tengu stands out from the rest of ship design
next to it would be machareal battleship from angel cartel, megathrone, ashimu of blood riaders and cruour blood raider frigate also looks cool. i also found gallentean level 3 battleship looks very cool and lastly CHIMERA looks really cool amongst all small carriers.

Interesting discussion, but far too broad. There are a great many ships that fit very well in their niche and are at the top of their class. You're better off asking for a specific class, niche or like all-around ship. Heck, the vexor could be considered the best all-around ship. You could do anything in it - mine, haul, pve and pvp decently well given the hull size.

What is the role of the Vaga? Hit and run well ok he does that good to a degree. But if you are scrammed/out of cap sitting somewhere orbited by an AB-Rifter with your few drones squished it is time for the eject..not really worth it's money.

It's really hard to say.
Hurricane - it's a reasonably fast and reasonably agile gankboat and also looks awesomely cool. Its usage (gank) intuitively follows from its bonuses and it performs in the role well.
Drake - tank & spank. Does exactly what its bonuses advertise, and does it very well. Con: looks like a flattened turd.
Harbinger - laser gank and buffer gankboat. Again, a well designed ship. Con: not so awesome as the two above imo.
Sleipnir - gaaaaaank. See Hurricane, just in a T2 hull. Con: The shield boost bonus is however not of great use unless you have access to drugs and/or crystals, and awesome if you do.
Machariel - fast, agile, ganky and the single most drop-dead gorgeous ship in EVE. Con: expensive and a bit of a gank magnet like all BS are.

Just to inject a bit more originality into the thread, I think the HICs are working exactly as intended. Only have driving experience in the Onyx, but it does exactly what you would expect a "heavy interdictor" to do.
Locks pretty fast, can hustle when it has to, and once it has a target held down that target isn't going anywhere any time soon thanks to the massive buffer it can fit.

at the risk of bein laughed out of EVE for my idiocy, i say its a toss up tween the ORCA or ferox..... ferox is hard to fit right but it does its job perfectly. Its job is fire support/bait an tackle ship. sure, the drake does nice tackle but its not good bait. many will run from a drake. a rifter will attcke a ferox cause everypone thinks they are failfoxes so they actually bring in more kills. they have a good active/passive tank flexability, can use anyweapon in teh game without givin up a DM bonus because their only gun bonus is range. they are not the best at anythin really but their shear verssatility is their biggest advantage. Orca is essentially a mobile station. wat more could u ask for?

Jaguar gets my vote for being most well designed. It can perform multiple roles with ease and is pretty much my main ship of choice atm after the projectile changes turned my 150mm ac into close range shredders. You can kit it out inty like and get 4000ms out of it with full tackle along with a stout mse tank with tasty base resists. Or go the dual mse heavy tackle route that goes around 3000ms and sports nearly 20k ehp. Then there is the frig blob 220 dps fit that melts cruisers and lower with its pure damage close range ammo.
About the only thing I can think of to add to the jap that wouldn't tip it over into the op side is a tracking bonus as the mission 4th bonus. If it had that then the jag would be the perfect assualt frigate and the template to fix all the others. Oh yeah, also made a fit that can solo tank and flip large fw plexs under full room aggro, even those horribly nasty minmatar ones with all the freakin tp ships. [stealthwhinge]Now if only ccp would make fw plexing relevant in some way that encourages people to risk their isk in potential ship loss so people would be arsed to do them. [/stealthwhinge]
