Edited by: Slimy Worm on 27/04/2010 21:02:21 CCP has admitted at least once that learning skills were a mistake to include in the game. The main problem is that CCP hasn't figured out a way to remove them. I have:
1) Give everyone +10 base attribute points in each attribute. Only attribute points above 15 will be able to be remapped (now it's 5).
2) Make all skills train 10% faster.
3) Give people a 100% training speed bonus for twice the amount of SP they have in learning skills.
If you have 1.2 mil SP in learning skills then you'll get a 100% training speed boost for 2.4 mil SP so that you make up all the SP you'll lose from investing in learning skills.
I don't want to turn this into a proposal yet in case somebody has a better idea of how to get rid of learning skills. Any suggestions?

I don't see anything that needs fixing. The only problem with the learning skills is the ridiculous advice veterans give noobs that they must training learning skills first or they are dumb. That's the best way to train up an alt, not your first and primary character.
A first and primary character should explore the game having fun - switching between learning skills and function skills as needed as they figure out what they want to do in the galaxy.
Training skills give a legitimate choice to players on how they want to invest their skill training time. Removing choice = bad.

Learning skills don't do let you fly any new ships or use any new modules. They're boring to train.

Well that argument falls short. there are plenty of skills that dont give you a new module or ship. (atm i train EM armor compensation just to name an example). they just improve your overall performance.
same goes for learning skills. if you train them to 5, you train faster and your overall performance is better. As Santiago Fahahrri said ... it is a decision you have to make how much time you want to invest in them. same for those other support skills like EM armor compensation.
(edit: typo)

Either trolling or you haven't used evemon beyond a 2 month train on a new char. fire up evemon, plan T2 fit bs, t2 fit T2-T3 cruiser....and not have learning in place. Then put them bad boys in. Train time should be a bit different lol.
I am 4/4 learned up on the combat toon, +3 implants for revelant attributes (tend to die in lag occassionally...loss of implants and loss of ships goe hand in hand lol...so I keep replacement costs down to perception and willpower implants)...t2 weapons in a bs is still a pita. True it doesn't unlock fitments...but you are sure as hell won't be seeing them anytime soon without them.

I was thinking the same thing as the OP just a few moments ago regarding the speed boost. Learning skills are extremely important, and extremely boring and could easily be replaced by 10 extra points to each attribute right from the start of a character. And the 100% boost is the most fair way to go regarding "I want my skillpoints back!".

Now who's trolling? "1) Give everyone +10 base attribute points in each attribute."
IF this idea was to be implemented you'd get the same training speed as 5/5 learning skills.

Why? why not just leave everyone with Base +0 instead of base +10, i find the +0 would be a more valid equalizer than a +10

Which is something that should be earned, not given.
Choose to be in an AF or T2 fit dessie in 2 weeks with no learning and hose learning bigger stuff later on. Choose to knuckle down and get learning killed early to save time on the backend months down the road for the ships you'll be flying to make isk or fight in pvp with full time.
Some call this the butterfly effect...eve calls this the sandbox

If you do not like the training skills then do not train them. They are a bonus, not a given. --
