Ok CCP.
I was peacefully mining away last night in [un-named system] mining HUGE icicles.
I created a jet can which my hauler friend couldn't take ore out of until I invited him into my gang, at wich point we were happy as we thought that this meant that the days of ore theivery were over.
Wrong.
RaSatan from RUS-1 wanders over and empties my whole can minus the 10k that we managed to haul.
WHY can friends not access the cans and yet lazy thieving b*****ds can? Care to shed any light? No. Didn't think so. CCP the ever silent.

Lies.
Your friend could not put stuff in to the can.
That is not the same as taking stuff out.

well... as much as i am not concerned by ore thieves in the first place.... folks like you, spouting out the same stereotypical (and in the meantime DUMB) suggestions again and again should be shot on sight also...
you might not know.. but these well praised *Giant* secure cans got pretty much useless with ice harvesting... if you're driving a large barge, you will fill this *giant* can in a single cycle...
so.. get off w**ring the boards and learn about what you talk instead
to the original poster... how about you have your hauler friend stay by and pick up the ice... this will minimize the chance of a thief getting it... ----

Sorry, this kind of attitude is really starting to annoy me.
People who constantly reply to anyone complaining about ore thievery (lowest of the low in my book) by pointing them to "secure containers" have obviously never mined anything in their lives.
A jet can holds 27,500 m3. The largest anchorable container holds 3,900m3 and cannot be anchored within 5km of any other object (including roids).
They are absolutely useless for mining.
If CCP increased the capacity of secure cans to that of normal jet cans then you might have a point. Otherwise, STFU.
Thanks.

I mine a lot and this is a fair point so far as it goes (try using more than one...).
However, in light of the huge volume of ice it might be time for a colossal secure can, say 6,500 vol with 8,000 capacity (it has to fit in an indy remember so you cannot get them close to a jetcan in capacity).

and cannot be anchored within 5km of any other object (including roids).
Eh? How does that add to any putative uselessness for mining? If they couldn't be anchored within 15km you might have a point.

They are actually very useful - don't knock em, we're better off having them than not.

As I say, can't happen because you couldn't transport the things. I mine, he has some kind of a point, however infelicitously he puts it, and the point is answerable by pointing out that ice volumes change the game somewhat and mean there is a need for another step up in secure can sizes.

There are two main points to prevent ore thevies from taking ur stuff:
Create another can and rapidly exchange the ore between the two
and
If you are mining with a bs, or a mate is, approach the ore theif at full speed + mwd, and let the ping-pong physics take care of the rest (this is only a temporary solution) ________________________________________________

#1 will work until the tief empties whatever keeps one of the cans alive, and then simply empties the other as you got nowhere to move the ore too....
#2 wont work at all anymore, as bouncing got nerfed...

well.. it would just mean he mined 69.4 days non stop.... on the other hand, even a jet can can only hold 27 units of ice...

I completely agree. You should all continue to use jet cans. I don't think that any self respecting miner would be seen dead with one of those awful secure containers.

He never said anthing about how long he was mining for BEFORE the ore thief came.
I find it funny, that the other justification (and one used by the devs) is that jettisoning is 'throwing away somthing' and therefore 'not belonging to anyone' yet.... you try shooting this 'rubbish' in empire and see how long it takes CONCORD to get there claiming that you shot 'someone else's property.'

He almost certainly meant 10k m3 which equals 10 units of ice and a lot of time spent mining.
Don't be so quick to shout 'lies'.

Mining ice it is probably not much less efficient to haul the ice directly back to a nearby station rather than putting it in a storage can.
I roleplay... there is this computer game called "Earth - The First Genesis" where i play a character in the early 21st century. |
