I noticed this in the Tyrannis patch notes :
"When closing the client while in warp the ship will now finish warping to its destination and then perform an emergency warp-off from there."
Guess this will affect the good ol'Logoffski-maneuver a bit, neh?

Where are you reading them?
All I can find under "In Testing" is old expansions, been keeping an eye out for Tyrannis and.... nothing...

Hmm, I found them linked from another topic in Science&Industry. Here is the link :

That happens currently, I believe. I've logged off a few times while in warp, and when I log back in I'll e-warp back to whatever I was warping to in the first place. I haven't tested if I actually complete my warp to the destination before I e-warp away, though, but I at least exit from e-warp at that location.

It has nothing to do with logoffskis as such. It's to correct a bug allowing you to create deepsafes. Basically what happens is when you log off you instantly stop being in warp and instead start aligning for an emergency warp. If you are in warp when you log off you will first need to deaccelerate from that warp, then turn and reach 75% speed in the right direction instead. As ships deaccelerate much much much slower outside of warp than in, it makes the ship overshoot it's destination and end up quite a few AU further down the same direction.
Parrots, commence!

Mhm. If I remember correctly the Logoffski-maneuver involved logging off, logging on, and then immediately logging off while you were still in emergency warp to finally appear somewhere far from the opposition/GateCamp. So I figured this patch would probably affect that as well.

If correct, it actually addresses both...
Currently, if you logoffski whilst in warp to a gate (for instance) you never arrive at that gate. Unless you log back in again, in which case your first destination will be the gate. You can avoid that by doing a few repeat logoffskis and thereby end up in a newly made safe spot.
With this change, it seems that you can log off in warp, but will still land on the gate (and presumably in a bubble if there is one) and therefore be tacklable. This is good, as it stops people scanning a threat at the gate and then logoffskiing to avoid it.
NOW CCP.... sort the other logoffski issue. You know, the one where people log off whilst cloaked after jumping through a gate into a camp, in the hope that their tank will last long enough for them to disappear.
And then delay the ewarp on logffski for, say, 5 seconds.

It's good to see them finally doing something about this. I wouldn't mind them extending the time before ships disappear when they've logged outside a POS or station, but I'll take what I can get.

If it has any effect on logoffski it will be unintentional. The e-warp change is made to kill the deep safespot creator where a ship will coast 10-40AU after logoff. Since deep safes are being deep sixed the mechanic is no longer wanted
The multi-logoff trick will probably still work but may require some tricky timing to get right.

multi log off was fixed, long time ago. you'd end up back where you logged, no matter how many times you relogged while still in black screen.
it didn't survive a patch couple years back, and people seem to have forgotten it was ever in game. so not only could it be implemented, it already was. and it's currently broken.

no it wasnt fixed. it still lets you log off multiple times to keep getting farther away. you do NOT end up back where you logged off at ----------------------------------------------- Cause they know your a pirate when they hear you say....... YARRR

I'm not very happy with this change
Since the Deep Safe Nerf won't allow you to bookmark outside of the "dead-ring" any more anyways I don't see a reason to remove the Poseidon-technique either, to be honest.
I feel quite uncomfortable with the thought of having an ISP 24h-disconnect mid-warp, just to log back in into a station because you warped right into a camp or the wartargets you planned to spank or whatever.
On another sidenote, there is a minor issue with regular safespots regarding this change Post 1 Post 2 -- those who can, do those who can't, complain |
