RIP: The current one.
This is becoming an increasing thing with CCP; out with the good, old effects. in with the new, crap ones. So thats Engine Trails, Suns and Cyno effects. What next? Sorry CCP, but i am not impressed and neither are most of the people i've shown this. It just looks horrible and unimpressive. What is your sudden fascination with effects revolving around spheres?

That's... horrid. It's probably just a ploy to move us away from our "gief old cyno" and "gief trails", into "gief old sun".

Actually i'm not trolling. I'm genuinely worried, and stating that worry, while asking for other peoles opinions on the new effect.
The old effect, when people warped to it for the first time thought "HOLY CRAP, THATS AWESOME". The same people, will, like myself, warp to the new one and go "Hrm..So thats a sun? Cool"

Besides, looking at a sun at moderatly close range with standard human eyes look more like this :
A sun with its solar flare. Our sun, actually.
Although I'm pretty sure it would be a bad idea to actually look at the sun with your very own eyes. Maybe CCP tried and the result is the new effect?
[Edit] Its a crappy pic, but I can't be arsed to find a better one.

Looks like sh*t. Quite frankly, it looks like they applied the same shader/effect to suns as they did the jumpgate effects, wormholes and cyno animations. Fail. I don't know what their motivation is except possibly that they want to be more efficient with their memory/effects management.
Either way, it looks like crap.

Whilst it looks nice and realistic up close, i am guessing the original one is how it looks when you are elsewhere in the solar system? If it is, what the **** is wrong with you ccp :psyduck:

What about sounds, like the decloak sound?
I miss that.
Also, while I'm ratting, 90% of the time I can neither hear nor see my weapons firing It sucks.

I wouldn't mind losing the apparently very unstable suns we currently have for ones which are more peaceful and way bigger and more awesome. But these are more peaceful and slightly bigger and way less awesome.

Just seen the new effects myself and I have to say I DO like them.
But it gets pretty fancy if you're warping to a bookmark pretty close to the star core.

On in-person examination I find they are not quite as bad as static shots would have you believe. Still a dis-improvement, but not a disaster. With work they could be better and more 'realistic'.
This one seems to have changed color (according to info it is supposed to be yellow):

Are you implying anyone cared about how the suns looked before you found this out? Because I'm pretty sure you're just getting a lot of bandwagon doodz that need their daily fix of whine about something at CCP.
