If you get the latest 4.2 version of cedega, eve installs fine, and runs fine. The only problem I've noticed is firstly its slower fps, but also if you press esc, the game crashes.
HL2 on the otherhand runs just as quick under cedega as it does in windows, no noticble frame loss :)

Edited by: Maveric7911 on 22/12/2004 18:52:47 Every time I try to run the game in cedega I get this error. It does finally install fine with ajusting the tmpfs size.
1 : blue.BluePyOS: InitBasicModuleSupport() failed 0 : blue.BluePyOS: Unhandled Python exception: BluePyOS::PyError() AttributeError: 'stackless.module' object has no attribute '_extension_registry'[
Any thoughts?
I have tried fresh installs from both 3106.exe and 3007.exe as well as just the folder from my windows drive I get the same error with all of these.

If it helps anyone I've been using Slackware 10.1 (default kernel 2.4). The graphic drivers from Nvidia (because of my card ;) ), and Cedega 4.3 (not the latest one out now). This works well apart from white text in certain places, which I'm in the process of sorting out. All in all though I'm made up I may finally be able to play eve on linux.....
Now lets just see if I get two clients running on it at the same time......

I think the status of EVE under linux hasn't changed much at all. With a bit of help it loads and you can even undock and fly around a bit but it still crashes. I got that far about 6 months ago and heard no new developments yet.

im now running eve on suse 9.3 pro with cedega 4.3 and i havent gotten any crashes. the performance is a bit sluggish though still. but its just as good if not better then my secondary computer wich runs winxp and a GF3 card this computer that i run eve in linux on is a... AthlonXP 2800+ 1GB DDR400 Geforce FX5950
my only problem that i have left is to get the performance up a bit so i can finally get the ******* rid of windows and move completely to Linux.
and pls dont yap to me about bashing on windows, ive used all windows versions since windows 1.1 so i think ive had enough grief from running all those windows versions so i got the right to bash it abit :)

Originally by: Kaylona Tso The team at Transgaming have finally done it. Exodus works on Linux thru WineX. With HL2 and CSS also working I no longer have a reason to use Windows XP on my main machine :) Hopefully I will have reports of WineX, EVE, and Mandrake 10.1 running on my AMD64/GeF6800 puter within the next few days.
Here is a screenie in the meantime from Transgaming's website :

I get the occasional lag spike but windows is far more sluggish on my box, than linux is.
Feel free to bash on windows all you want 8 ) I get 40 fps when tooling around, 35 around gates, 43 when warping, and 25-30 when mining with 3 medium drones out.
It sounds like you just need to optimize your WineX instance...

I have been killing pirates, mining, jumping through a gate to a station to switch to combat ship, back to asteroid field for over 4 hours straight, without a single crash, all while running teamspeak. It crashes less than windows does for me LMFAO.
It's tempermental. You can only alt-enter once, to go to full screen. Second time crashes it. Sometimes mouse doesn't click where you are pointing. alt-enter to crash it on purpose, then restart game. If you know about these issues you just work around these limitations and it plays phenomenal. You get a feel for starting the game. The only issues for me occur during start up. A restart usually cures this and it will run for hours upon end without crashing. In windows the sound eventually starts breaking up after a few hours and I CTD quite frequently.
I am a oss programmer, by trade, and simply got fed up with the windows instability, despite using up to date drivers etc. the game would crash a lot. Game performance has never really been great in windows for me either. The servers I work on at work never crash so I figured I'd give fedora a try for gaming, since I already know some workarounds for some of the bugs and install gotchas ; )
It's a whole different feel to the game... It feels twice as fast. I don't know if it really is, but it's awesome. I am not looking back yet.
AMD64 3200+ 1GB ddr400 GeForce FX5700 128 RH FC3 - 32 bit Kernel update rpm 27 (35 breaks cedega) recompiled alsa kernel modules (since 27 has fubar'd sound drivers) Cedega 4.3.2 Windows 98 instance type full screen in a 1024*768 WineX tty. It's full screen inside of a window, if that makes sense... All graphics options selected...

I'll deal with the second point first. I don't care if you've been using windows since 1.1, I've been using MS OSs since MS DOS (though I always prefered IBM DOS) and my Grandad has been using computers since they introduced ticker tape. We both however use Windows out of choice and despise Linux. Does that give us a right to bash Linux? No, it just means that we have our personal preferences. That quite simply is the fact of the matter, all OSs have bugs, instabilities and genral problems. They are all however good for different things. So any and all flaming is stupid.
Now, to the first point, what happens when a patch comes out that causes Linux to be unable to run Eve? I'm sure there'll be people who'll come here and start crying about it. So do yourself a favour and hang on to Windows, you're going to need it eventually.

you dont get it do you?
btw... this is Malkens other character. first you need a bit of a lesson in Operating systems history. MS windows didnt become a fully fledged operating system until the GUI was fully integrated with the NT core wich makes all previous windows just that GUI's and yes ive been working with computers a long time and i started with that around 1978. you do the math. i have run extensively just about all operating systems out there. i even got my old MS-OS/2 in a box here. and not to forget all the boxes of MS windows versions and Dos versions and unix and netware versions i have. yeah i save them all. heck i even got a couple of BEos discs around. personally i dont care what OS you bash, its your choice if you are that narrowminded. i do have many years experience of microsoft products and theres alot about them that i do not like and propably never will. so i think ive earned the right to say what i want about microcrap products. with eve working somewhat good so far on linux i am one step closer to getting rid of windows on my computers.
and when there is a eve patch that stops eve from functioning on linux well then alot of ppl that are alot smarter then you sit down and solve that problem.

Point out where I was bashing an operating sytem.
Oh, and you've just called yourself narrowminded and proved my point:
Originally by: Xendie so i think ive earned the right to say what i want about microcrap products.

I'm sorry I didn't realise you had telepathy working through the internet. You have no idea of my intellect or lack thereof so stop making assumptions. Though you are right, many people will work to solve the problem but this will take time and as I said many people will just whine on the forums.
Edit: missed a quote tag.

Well I got around to installing Ubuntu last night and Cedega 4.3.2 and though I'd give Eve a go.
I copied my Windows installation to ~/TransGaming_Drive/Program Files/CCP/Eve/ and then fired it up. The splash came and went and I was left with nothing .
Then I remembered to reset the permissions for the directory so I could write to it . Opened it up again and everything worked flawlessly. I undocked, flew around, jumped a system or two, did a show info on some people (this took a while and caused everything to freeze), jumped back and docked. Even the 'ESC' menu worked because I turned sound on to hear that wonderful sexy new voice.
The only problems I encountered were;
- Freezing while doing a show info - 2 buttons missing on the left hand side menu (they were red blocks). - Changing resolution did nasty things. - Performance chopped in half.. under Windows on the same PC I average about 45-50fps but under Linux it was down to about 20. Which is understandable given the extra amount of work the applications are doing (OpenGL please ).
I can't say I'll ditch Windows yet but thats only because of the slower performance. If that improves then MS is out of here!

Note - WineX or anything simmilar isn't really "running under UNIX". As long as you are running under any form of Windows, the instability, secutiry holes, and so on are still there.

Yeah, because Linux/Unix never gets hacked and when it doesn't files aren't replaced with recompiled files containing malcious commands.
