BIG will once again host betting for the Alliance tournament.
This time the 8th Alliance Championships (AT8)
The AT8 website is now live, and you can start making your bets!!!
So - What excactly do we offer?
We offer the standard "bet on the team you think will win overall", but also a range of other bet types
We even offer "late entry" bets, which is bets made *after* the tournament has started!
- Who will be ranked in the top 32 after round 1 (early entry).
- Who will be ranked in the top 32 after round 2 (early entry).
- Who will make it to the semifinals (early entry).
- Who will make it to the semifinals (late entry).
- Who will win the tournament (early entry).
- Who will win the tournament (late entry).
Bets have to be made before round 1 starts (2010.06.05 15:00)
Bets have to be made before the finals round (brackets) starts (2010.06.19 15:00)
On the site you'll among other things find the "Bet Calculator", making it a bit easier to determine excactly what to put in the infobox when you transfer your ISK to "BIG Games".
Make sure to use it, if at all in doubt about what to enter in the infobox.
Updating of bets is done automatically via the EVE API, so the text entered needs to be spot on for the program to recognize it.
Any mistake and your bet will be treated as a BIG Lottery entry!
(and any amounts above the max for the BIG Lottery will be treated as a donation - Thank you very much!)
On the site you will also be able to see the bets already made!
Apart from the betting we naturally also supply the full schedule for the tournament (Currently the times are a guess, as the official list hasnt been posted yet)
Lots of info there - And all in one place!

My guess is, they'll pour into different isk-pools and be paid out independantly, so that early bets and late bets are not going to be part of the same winning pool?

Correct.
Take a look at, say, [BIG Betting] AT6 and you can actually see the individual bet type payouts.
(AT7 had no early/late betting)

My server is re-booting every 2 hours, that type of error message looks as if you managed to hit the website just as the server was starting up again, but (most likely) the DB hasn't spun up yet.
If you happen to run into this, simply wait 5 minutes or so and then try again.

I've double checked 5 times now, I have bet correctly but nothing shows up for me its been 2 days. Doesnt seem like the site has updated at all in the last 2 days though can someone help me out ?

I literally had that thought when I wrote my last post here (about bug fix #2), and was wondering what that 3rd one would be
Now I know and it's fixed - Thanks for bringing it to my attention.
(It was a leftover (oversight) from AT7 that only had 2 bet types, and not 6, meaning bet types 3 through-6 got marked as invalid - sigh  )

Great thing - makes watching the matches a litte more interesting.
You should do a little more advertising though - there are not that many bets out there yet.
btw: How frequently do you update your bets via API and at what time does that job run?
(after placing a bet: how long do I have to wait until it shows up on the website?)

We are severely limited in this respect.
Hence why I had hoped for a bit of dev-blog love, as that's really the only real way to "reach everyone" - But alas...

The EVE API is cashed for 60 minutes, so on average you'll have to wait 30 minutes.
But it could be 1 minute or 60 minutes.

I suppose when teams deliberately take a fall in order to scam the betting sites (see hydra) there is nothing that can be done. I'm not saying anythign should be done in this tournament. But future tournaments, what are your thoughts?

It's an incredible dangerous grey area to move into, and as such I won't do (judge) anything.
It's a grey area because often you can't be 100% sure (99% isn't 100%...), and thus some would always disagree.
As such it's the final result that counts regardless how it came about.

Yes I agree with your stance- just ride it out and see how it falls out. But basically I think that after this match betting on eve tournaments is as dead as the bounty system in eve.
I don't blame hydra at all. They just demonstrated what should have been obvious. Indeed I think its a good thing. Otherwise thick skulled folk like myself never would have gotten it. Morevover the future tournaments should indeed only be for what ccp offers. Because anyone who bets on the future matches - unless they have inside information that they know is accurate - is a fool.
Beside all this, we saw an awesome air show from hydra. I was trying to think what I would do if I was agony and its really hard to say. All those frig sized ships moving around at range. I cant fault agony. Nice job hydra.

You seem to think this is the first time someone has thrown a match while betting on the other team. Tyrrax's antics didn't kill tournament betting, Gobbins' antics won't kill it, and both of them make eve a more enjoyable virtual world to play in imo.
